This was a really fun series of sketch cards I did about two years ago, following up on a Young Frankenstein set that I sadly don't seem to have any scans or pics of. But these came out great, too. I'm still pondering the practicality of a Space Balls set on black cardstock. #blazingsaddles #melbrooks #cleavonlittle #genewilder #harveykorman #madelinekahn #slimpickens #alexkarras #west #oldwest #wildwest #cowboys #outlaws #sheriffbart #thewacokid #hedleylamarr #thatshedley #lilivonshtupp #fanart #movies #comedy #sketchcard #ink #sketch #drawing (at Jeffersonville, Indiana)

This sketch card commission was a real treat to do. One of my favorite figures from the American West —the hero of Rock Ridge, and inventor of the CandyGram, Blazing Saddles’ SHERIFF BART. When I was a kid, Mel Brooks was in regular rotation around our place, and my family would laugh themselves to tears at Blazing Saddles. To this day, I don’t understand why Cleavon Little was not the most famous actor in Hollywood, because this was the funniest and most charismatic leading man role ever put on film. . #sketch #sketchcard #commission #cleavonlittle #sheriffbart #blazingsaddles #rockridge #candygram #melbrooks #randolphscott #strathmorepaper #copicmarkers #raphaelbrushes — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/33OU1WJ

One Quick Note About the Government Shutdown
A lot has been said about the dysfunction of congress and the terrible state of political reporting in the US, I don't got much to add outside shaking my head, but I do want to make one important note that seem to be somewhat lost here -
This is not an actual shutdown of the US government.
For all their "government is the root of all evil" bravado, even LOLbertarian likes Ron Paul don't have the balls to actually shut down the government and let the invisible hand of the market direct air traffic. No, this is just a procedural flesh wound congress get to inflict on this country for no good reason.
What's happening is the US put a lot of federal workers (and contractors) on a furlough (which is a nice way of saying "forced unpaid vacation") and the ones they absolutely can't do without, they force them to come to work but don't pay them.
The US of course pay the military, you can ask the Roman republic how bad of an idea it is to not pay your soldiers (and they had gladiuses, not predator drones) and pay congress, because fuck you, that's why.
In order to understand how we got to this stupid ass point, a little background is in order, in the US, congress control spending, poli-sci people and talking heads trying to sound smart call it the "power the purse", or in the word of the constitution "No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law". What it means in practice is that every dollar any agency want to spend has to be passed as law in congress (now you may ask, if that's the case, why do presidents get shit from congress about the deficit? well, that's a very good question, but it's for another time). Usually, that is done in a form of a budget, which is one giant bill that specify all the spending congress authorized.  Now for political reasons, congress isn't always able to pass such budget (and it has happen more often than you'd think, especially in recent years) so it passes what is known as continuing resolution which in general terms tell the federal government "keep spending like you did while we get our shit together". If congress hasn't pass such such bill, the government can't spend anything.   What is happening right now is that House Republicans are refusing to pass such resolution unless they get what they want but couldn't get through elections or normal legislative process (namely, a repeal of Obamacare) and the system is set-up that by mere inaction they can inflict serious pain on the country and its citizens.
Now mind you, congress has actually passed some continuing resolutions just now, specifically, to pay the military, because again, no one want to piss the people with the F-22s (not to mention it will be political suicide) even Ted Cruz is not that crazy, no, they just want inflict just enough pain on everyone so they can have their way.
You may ask, why don't we change the law so that a failure to pass a spending bill just mean we continue spending under the current levels while congress get their shit together?
That's a very good question theoretical person I'm talking with, and I agree wholeheartedly with your idea.
p.s.
Threatening to fuck the economy in order to get what you want is like taking yourself hostage, which admittedly, is not without precedent in American history, but at least Sheriff Bart had the decency to put a gun to his own head, the house isn't even willing to go without pay (and half of them are fucking millionaires).
