Finished Sweet Home in one night because tradition demanded it (I did the same with the season one)
Here some thoughts:
•It kinda hit me how all the casualties in the first chapter, at least in that scene, they were caused not by the monster but by the army trying to kill it. Even if he hadn't killed or even hurt anyone. It protected a child and returned her to her mother. It is as if from the beginning they want to tell us "now this is the world we live in. Is this what we have become or what we always have been?"
•I whish Hyun Su could have had more screen time, I mean, he is the main character...his face appears at the middle of the poster...he is literally the bridge that unites monsters and humanity. But I also know they needed to show how things were with Eun Yoo and the others in the refuge. However we could have had glimpse of lab stuff, Wooi Myung/ Yi Kyungs husband past, and so.
•I am so invested on creating theories about Hyun Su's monster form psychology. Like it kinda looks like a wing, but why a wing? Why just one? What even was Hyun Su's deep wish? (I think it was that everyone disappeared) So, what does that have to do with his monster form?
Also. How can he fly with it? Huh. Not that I'm complaining tho, it looks cool.
•"What do you want" "What should we do?" *smirks mutherfuckingly*
Tumblr media
I cannot. I just can't. His eyes. The tension.
The strangers to apocalypse friends to apocalypse lover-enemies it's apparently what I needed.
Evil Hyun Su had enough with the baby steps. I don't understand how they thought leaving us like...that was a good plan. Guess I will have to wait half a year to find out.
If these two (three¿) don't get more screen time in season 3 I'm really, really, throwing hands. They were so cute in season 1 and now we know he has been watching over her all this time??
Tell me that that's not cute as hell.
It kinda shattered my soul when after saving her from falling into the well she kept trying to get to him and he "drew a line" with his wing. And she was going to keep trying. I'm not fine. And for the record, I never was.
•The kid....is she annoying? Yes, she is. But what she has of annoying she also has of interesting. Like how is she possible? Why?
From what I know and remember Yi Kyung was pregnant. That's all. They better do some explaining there in s3.
•I can't help to find parallels between her and Yeong Su. They are both young and traumatized. They hold very little knowledge of the world and for them is more than enough. Angry with their moms and adults/humans and they will make it everyone's problem.
•Eun Hyuk appearing at the very end of the final chapter with smirking villain vibes has me on a chokehold.
Suddenly I remembered that I have to go through deep academic stress for mid-2024 to arrive.
Tumblr media
Huh.
Until next time.

Alright, I finally got my hands on this full ... presscon? cast reaction? Whatever.
I already shared some screenshots from this before (by some people on Twitter) and after finally watching the full version, I fell like I need to share the rest of the season 2 world building and character lores mentioned and discussed to you guys in here (and also major spoilers for season 3)
P.S. I could be wrong on some of the points here (either misinterpreting or not paying enough attention), so please correct me if I do in the reply section
youtube
Season 2
I'm still confused af on this line : "he killed his original body as well as his personality, eventually turning into the twisted monster that he is now". Like so, does it refer to Sang-won killing his original body in season 2 or is it about monster Sang-won killing the real Sang-won?
I still don't get this line too, so interpret it however you want : "The child covered in black?" "This is where what's remaining of Sang-won disappears, uncovering the child."
Chan-young was a baseball player. Ye-seul was one of the cheerleaders
Oh, apparently monsterization does still happened inside the stadium. That's why there's a regular daily checking. Anyone showing symptoms will be out in the isolation place (yeah that place where they put the sick mom in). Some lived, some died inside the isolation => might be why Chief Ji keeping her monster son secluded somewhere deep inside the stadium
Hyun-su cut Yi-kyung's daughter hair the same style as him, hence how they're being similar appearance wise
The live action crew is adapting Shotgun Boy into Netflix Sweet Home
Yi-kyung blames herself for how her child turned out to be with her monster-turning power
Yi-kyung's inability to give affection or even touched her child stems from the fact that monsters are created from human desires, so she didn't want her child to have desire (awfully familiar with a particular old man *side glance*)
Yep, you guessed it. These three (Hyun-su, Eun-yu, and Chan-young) are dense as fuck about their own feelings to each other (minus Hyun-su to Chan-young and vice versa ofc)
Yi-kyung's daughter views Hyun-su as her own family even more than her biological mother. Because they're similar and he's the only person she could hold hands with without her power reacting
Hyun-su uses red ribbons to mark the safe area for Eun-yu because color red stands out among the greenery of Seoul post time skip
The monster cocoons are shaped like a heart because monsterization manifests from human desires
The "real Jung Wui-myeong" is one of the scientists. Sang-won (or monster Sang-won depending how you interpret the earlier points) took his identity and used it as his own, probably to separate himself from his old human self
Lmao, not them calling Sang-won's family as family of evil and there's no good apple in it. That's so fucking foul
Sang-wook is still there somewhere (I already shared this one before)
Sang-won's original abilities include the Medusa touch he did to Hyun-su in episode 3
Oh wait, Yi-kyung survived?! I thought she died after her fight with Hyun-su (uh oh *nervous glance to every instance of me mentioning "her death" in replies*)
Monster Hyun-su act according to what Hyun-su thinks and desires (I had shared this one before)
Monster Hyun-su is more proactive and extrovert (is the extrovert part really necessary?")
Season 3 rough summary
Family drama : Nam Sang-won starts a bunch of trouble (this bitch) in order to create a world he dreams of. There are family reunions and conflicts between spouses. He also meets his child (uh oh). They fight for her custody. This custody case didn't need a court (fuck, oh come on 😂). Yi-kyung wouldn't just talk it out. She'd fight until one is dead
Sibling drama : Eun-yu will meet Eun-hyeok again, but I'm not sure it'll make her happy
Second male lead struggle : Chan-yeong faces even more hardships as the story progresses. But even then, he gives up a lot just to protect Eun-yu. He starts to understand the monsters more. There's a lot on his mind as the story goes on.
More monster Hyun-su : Hyun-su lets go of himself and lets out the monster. But the monster doesn't just do its thing. He reads Hyun-su's mind and acts as he wants.
Another Hyun-su and Yi-kyung interaction : And later on, he interacts with Yi-kyung as well. The emotion it brings also felt huge. In the narration, he tells Eun-yu how much pain Yi-kyung is in and that he has to stop it all himself. So I'm sure Hyun-su sparked a change in Yi-kyung's heart. That'll continue in Season 3.

The Underrated Asian Show of 2023
QueenMaker (2023) ~ Actress Kim Hee-ae portrayal of being a Fixer (Hwang Do-hee) for one of Korea's prominent families is a thriller. It is 'Scandal' wrapped up in a stellar cast of proficient actors. When I say proficient I mean Proficient... Seasoned Actors... Marinated. This cast is your favorites Idol in the industry. This series is an acting class, pull up a seat. Who controls the narrative the world sees is Do-hee skill set. She's the only sleeping dog you should let lie before she takes your entire existence. The most underrated series of 2023. When you see actors in their 50's getting a check with a story line like this make some noise and praise them. Western World get to watching. I pray they will have a Season 2. The acting is everything. Netflix. (Korea) (x)

5 K-drama supporting actresses who deserve more love
The title speaks for itself. "No small roles, only small actors" they say. Here are some of my favorite actresses known for playing supporting / guest roles and where you might have seen them. List created in no particular order. Gifs not mine!
Potential spoilers for the following series: Extraordinary Attorney Woo; Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha; and Hotel Del Luna.
Lee Bong-ryun
I was inspired to write this post because of her recent stint as feminist-activist Attorney Ryu in Extraordinary Attorney Woo (ep. 12), but I first noticed her in Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, where she plays the warm but no-nonsense zone chief Yeo Hwa Jeong.
Other incredible work can be seen in Sweet Home (her eerie-vibe in the trailer alone was enough to make me give it a shot) and Run On.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeom Hye-ran
With her recent Best Supporting Actress win at this year's Baeksang Awards for The Uncanny Counter, offers should be pouring in for Yeom Hye-ran. I'm not even surprised anymore when I see her in a show since she can fit in practically anywhere. From the annoying aunt in Goblin and the battered wife in Dear My Friends, to the ruler of the underworld in Mystic Pop-Up bar and the superpowered healer from The Uncanny Counter, she definitely has the range.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jin Kyung
I always mix up Jin Kyung with Lee El (whom I also love) because they carry a certain elegance and mystery that make them stand out no matter how little screen time they have. Currently featured as Tae Su-mi in Extraordinary Attorney Woo, she has been effective in making viewers speculate, sympathize, admire, and dislike her with the brief appearances she has made.
I've also enjoyed her work in Melancholia as Noh Jung-ah, Dr. Romantic as Nurse Oh Myung-shim, and Pinocchio as Song Cha-ok.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Seo Yi-sook
I paid more attention to Hotel Del Luna because I was constantly on the lookout for the next Mago shin sister. She plays six of them in this drama and they are so distinct from each other that you may forget they're played by the same person. Due to her charisma, gravelly voice, and amazing diction, she often gets cast as the CEO's antagonistic wife or a competent authority figure whom you're not too sure whose side she's on. Whatever it may be, she always makes it count. One hell of a singing voice too (watch her sing on JTBC's Hot Singers).
Other notable credits: Terius Behind Me; The World of the Married; Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol.

Cha Chung-hwa
Known to many fans as Court Lady Choi in Mr. Queen and one of the North Korean ahjummas in Crash Landing On You, I've come to appreciate not only Cha Chung-hwa's comedic timing but also her immense talent in subtle dramatic acting. While I initially wasn't the biggest fan of Nam-suk the town gossip in Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, I was impressed by her heartfelt portrayal of a grieving mother who uses gossip and humor as therapy. Other wonderful roles and guest appearances include: Hospital Playlist 2; Hotel Del Luna; and On the Verge of Insanity.

Even if it's most likely that Ji-su's rumored return in season 3 gonna be the same unique case as Eun-hyeok (died when they're already infected [her being heavily hinted in episode 2x03], thus being reborn from the cocoon), I don't think Ji-su herself want to go back to the living world
Like, let my girl rested with her boyfriend and her new crush in the afterlife. Have you not seen how Yi-kyung suffered even more after being resurrected into monster by her daughter?

THEORY : SANG-WON IS ACTUALLY UI-MYEONG
Been rewatching the show and just wanna write down this theory even tho I don't believe. That much about it but there's some interesting stuff (spoilers ahead and all)
But I was thinking about it and what if Sang-Won was actually Ui-Myeong ? Like, Sang-Won disappearead a bit before the end of the world to, I quote, "become a subject", and we know Ui-Myeong was also a subject. There's a weird syringe parallel in which both scenes of torture include a syringe with a red product inside too.
We know Sang-Won is "Not really alive, but not really dead" so maybe he's in a kind of comatose state, or maybe his BODY is dead but he's still living as a weird goo/in someone else body.
Yi-Kyung and Ui-Myeong are pretty alike names since Yi-Kyung can also be written as "I-Kyeong" but here it's more of a occidental speculation, idk how it's written in hangeul 😭
Both, along with Sang-Won, are the only Netflix characters, not present in the webtoon. Ui-Myeong also seem to be a pretty rare name, the only time I got to see it when searching for it on Google was only Sweet Home results even without the mention 'Sweet Home'
Also, Ui-Myeong really knew well how to control his monster even tho someone like Hyun-Su, a pretty "old" monster (day 1 of the apocalypse) has a hard time. Why ? Because Ui-Myeong knew way before, he's already stabilized because he's been a monster since July, just like Sang-Won. If we pick all these elements, it seems like Sang-Won could actually be Ui-Myeong after losing his mind.
Some stuff go against this theory that's why I believe 50% abt it, like, Ui-Myeong never seemed to recognize Yi-Kyung, not even a little bit and who called her on her phone if it's not a 'normal' Sang-Won ? Also when Ui-Myeong gets tortured both faces don't seem that alike, but nothing is really sure since maybe they did it on purpose, not revealing who Ui-Myeong really is. Also why would he go from Nam to Jung, idk either
But it would be pretty interesting with Yi-Kyung, she needs to take down the guy, but he's her fiancé, but he also went crazy and killed a lot of her friends. We could have a cool arc for her idkkk

Revenge of Others
Tumblr media
TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2022
Revenge of Others (2022, South Korea)
Director: Kim Yoo Jin
Writer: Lee Hee Myung
Mini-review:
I basically started watching this because of Park Solomon and the first episode was kinda meh. However, it got a lot better with each following episode and it ended up becoming a really fun murder mystery. It kept the twists and surprises coming and it always kept me guessing and thinking, which isn't easy with this kind story that's been told a million times. I'm not going to lie, I did not like the last two episodes and I think the writer's only goal was to make shocking final reveals, even if they didn't make much sense. But, other than that, I had so much fun watching this show and I will miss my weekly dosis and Shin Ye Eun/Chanmi and Park Solomon/Sooheon. Also, kudos to Shin Ye Eun cause she killed this role, and the rest of the cast was pretty good too.
