In honour of the first Schwingfest of the season, and because I had so much fun last year when I did the same for the Kilchberger, I'm posting my predictions for the ESAF in Pratteln. Prefered (reasonable) outcome in bold, other guesses not bold, balls-to-the-wall-unlikely dream scenarios in italics.

Ever since swiss wrestling's popularity exploded, the media have liked to hype up a guy in the weeks leading up to the tournament, usually from the town where the ESAF is that year, who will then also usually crumble like a stale Kägifret because he's not used to the pressure and attention. 2010 it was Abderhalden, 2013 it was Sempach (little exception bc he did win but he also basically broke down once everything was over and never really recovered), 2016 it was Armon (though that was mostly bad luck), and 2019 it was Reichmuth and Wicki. So, dudes who will crumble: Erb Roger, Strebel Joel

Which names will Sempach mispronounce during the live broadcast: Borcard ("Brocard"), all of the wrestlers from abroad

Who will Stefan Hofmänner crush on: Collaud (bc of his curly angel face and great wrestling style), Bieri (bc of his smile), Staudenmann (just bc)

How many times will Stefan Hofmänner scream "DAS GITZ ja nid, DÄR <insert name>!!!" ? Too many.

How many times will I want to reach through the TV and strangle him? Every fucking.

Good to know about Switzerland:

Switzerland has the advantage that it is a very small country and can therefore very well be included in a european trip. However, one must be aware of the high price level and therefore plan the trip in advance as far as possible. Current exchange rate (1 AUD = 0.75 CHF).

Nevertheless, you should not miss the diversity of small Switzerland. You can reach from the big city to the smallest farming village in a few hours. After skiing in summer you can cool off in the mountain lake and enjoy a great hike the next day.

Culture

As the Swiss people speak 4 languages, the culture is almost the same but the habits varies from canton to canton. The swiss are known for their organised and strict adherence to a lot of social rules for daily life. There are a lot of folk festivals celebrated in a lot of cantons, for instance: carnival & “Schwingfest” (see picture).
