The 100 6x10 “Matryoshka” Review
You know, when I was assigned this episode to review, I wasn’t expecting to be discussing a moment like THAT (you all know what I’m referring to), so please, be kind while I process by obsessively refreshing Twitter and try to put my thoughts together.
There’s definitely a lot going on in this episode, some of which I LOVED (take a wild guess on what part that is folks), and some of which I was less than fond of. It’s all high tension and high stakes, even more than the last. I’m a big fan of the moves they made to set everything into place; this is probably one of my favorite episodes of the season.
Action and Reaction
Here’s the thing. Putting almost all of your characters in one place forces conversation and development, which can turn out fascinating, or it can illuminate the truly unnecessary plot points and characters that have been hanging on all season.
Raven and Abby are back from space and being taken prisoner like the rest of the Arkadians when Simone, angry about the loss of both the synthetic nightblood and the mind drive they used for Kane, tells Abby that Clarke is dead. As the audience we know that this isn’t exactly true, but Abby has no reason to think she’s alive, since every other host body is completely taken over by whoever’s mind drive is put in that body.
I was pretty peeved with both Raven and Abby’s reactions to Clarke’s “death,” even though it’s been an ongoing joke online that Josie!Clarke could basically say and do anything and Abby still wouldn’t notice that something was up with her daughter. Raven’s been mad at Clarke for the entire season, so I guess I understand a lack of reaction on her part — but Abby? Her lack of reaction is only so off-putting because just last episode we saw an absolute outpouring of grief over Kane. It makes no sense that the news of her only child’s death wouldn't even garner 10% of that.
The thing is, that’s poor characterization either way. Failing to show an emotional response that makes sense is a failure of the writing, and making her grief over Kane much more significant than over Clarke on purpose only highlights how far gone she is. That’s not a character worth keeping around, especially if this difference in emotion and priority is never addressed (and I don’t think it’s going to be). If the writers room is so keen on keeping her around they need to put some effort into showing the audience why that’s worthwhile. I know there are people who like Abby, but when it comes down to plot, what purpose does she serve? In a cast so large they need to trim loose ends or suffer for it, and I think hanging onto Abby for so long is an example of that. What has she done all season besides hole up in the library looking for a way to heal Kane, who’s been technically dead since the Season 5 finale? You could argue that they need her for the synthetic nightblood, but giving Becca’s notebook to Raven and having her do it also makes sense, especially since Abby doesn’t even leverage that ability when she should. Case in point: when Russell decides to burn them all at the stake after Simone’s murder, Murphy is the one who brings up being able to make nightblood from bone marrow, thereby saving everyone from a super vintage execution (for now).
While we’re at it — I can’t believe Abby is actually mad at Murphy for helping the Primes, even though he and Emori explain that they both thought Clarke was actually dead and nothing could be done about it. Sure, what Murphy did was a little cold and sketchy at best, but it’s right on brand. Clarke’s dead? Nothing can be done about it? Better leverage this to my advantage. Self preservation, baby. That’s much less than Abby did literally ONE episode ago, being fully complicit in Gavin’s murder and actually recruiting him to host Kane’s mind drive even though she knew exactly what would happen.
That’s exactly why these scenes with everyone felt stale: not every character is pulling their weight, and when that happens the scene gets bogged down with unnecessary interactions. There’s too many characters that really only take up space. Characters like Jackson, Miller, Niylah, and even Echo are dead weight at this point. Again, I know that these characters have their fans. That doesn’t change the fact that as far as the narrative is concerned, they're all relatively useless. Just being a named character doesn’t automatically give them significance, that significance has to be shown. What exactly does Miller bring to the show? Or Niylah? Even if they were once important that importance is dwindling if not non-existent. Miller could have been a compelling character: he was Bellamy’s right hand man in Season 1. He’s one of the original hundred. They could have done more with him, but in reality he’s replaceable. If you took Miller, Jackson, and Niylah out of the show, nothing would change. You could even say the same for Abby and Echo; they have more screen time than the rest, but Abby’s continued presence on the show feels forced and Echo is far from a developed character. Their “skills” can easily be transferable to other characters. Characters like Jordan and Emori are MUCH more compelling.
Another thing that drags the episode down (and the season, if I’m being honest)? The whole “Sheidheda” making Madi a murder princess. I absolutely cannot fathom WHY grounder culture is still a thing on this show. They are on another planet, over a century later, with a thousand better things to focus on. I understand that Madi’s nightblood is significant, and the flame might be as well (from a technology standpoint). But why introduce this “dark commander”? if they wanted Madi to go full assassin, the pain of losing Clarke would have been enough to justify it. Also, what point does Madi/Sheidheda being so threatening towards Gaia serve? Having to listen to anything about the commanders is honestly exhausting, and it’s holding the show back. They’ve moved on (literally) in almost every capacity, and the show’s tendency to beat a dead horse only ever backfires.
Not to sound too harsh, but that feeling I get whenever someone calls Madi “heda” is the same feeling I get if I’m at a party and this one person can only talk about how great high school was. This again? We’re in our late twenties. High school wasn’t great. Please, let it go.
With that being said, they are setting up the next episode in a way that makes me think they might take the flame out of Madi for good, so we’ll see how that goes.
Now, there are some compelling pieces here: it was nice to see Raven go back to being sciencey and a little bit philosophical after almost a full season of nothing but self-righteousness. Her conversation with Murphy about morality, not immortality, as a way to avoid hell was well done. The 100 loves a good morality conversation, and with things getting more dire in Sanctum and the growing comparisons between the Primes and Arkadians I’m sure that’s not the last we’ll hear of it.
Getting almost everyone in one place, setting the stage for getting the dark commander out of Madi’s head, and setting up one last ditch effort to appease the Primes was great. The pacing in this case was well done and well executed, despite the issues that I did have, and I know that the final showdown will be epic.
The hold that the Primes have over Sanctum is disintegrating, to put it mildly, and my guess is that a mass witch trial-esque execution isn’t exactly the way to put the populace at ease.
There’s even an internal rebellion being incited by Ryker, who tells Delilah’s parents and another man that their loved ones aren’t “one with the Primes,” that nothing is left of the original host when the Prime’s mind drive takes over, and they’ve been lied to for decades. I’m curious to see the reaction when everyone in Sanctum learns the truth.
The Primes are Dead. Long Live the Primes.
Here’s the thing about the Primes and the Arkadians — they’re so concerned with not being like each other that they conveniently ignore or justify what they’re doing. Russell is hellbent on not ending up like the Arkadians, but how, in any way, are the Primes better than the Arkadians? At their current positions, I’d say that the Primes are decidedly worse. Here’s the thing, though — they’ve had time. Josie said it herself — she wasn’t always like this. Give the Arkadians a few centuries, and who's to say they wouldn’t devolve into something similar?
The driving force for both groups has always been taking care of “their people.” What’s not usually discussed is that in order to put your people first you need to put other people last. Someone almost always suffers, it's just about prioritizing that suffering.
It circles back around to that question of trying to save humanity but never bothering to question if it even should be saved. Sure, the Primes can live forever. Should they?
Clarke even gets a glimpse of Josie’s morality, or the morality she used to have, as their minds start to disintegrate and Josie’s memories bleed into Clarke’s mind space. We see Josie in love with Gabriel, watching that memory fondly until she absolutely has to let it go. In another episode, Clarke already discovered that memory of Josie’s from that diner on Earth.
Finally, when Gabriel and Octavia find Bellamy and Clarke/Josie and Gabriel is about to take out her mind drive, almost all of her memories are gone. Eliza Taylor absolutely kills this whole scene, and I actually could have shed a tear for Josie when she speaks through Clarke, saying she can’t remember, but she’s sure she did terrible things.
Josie had morality. Josie lost it.
The entire run of the show has been exploring morality and what it means — no simple task, I know. I think, however, that Gabriel really embodied that when he let Josie die. He said it himself, he’s been in love with her for centuries. But he needs, everyone needs, the cycle to stop. Putting an end to using hosts is the only way to do it.
That’s Love, Bitches
I mean… come on. Come ON.
This scene was everything. Well acted, well written, well directed. I cried, you cried, everyone cried. Twitter imploded. I’ll go to my grave being adamant that Bellamy and Clarke’s relationship is THE best and most well done thing about the show. The entirety of the sixth season is built on Clarke being gone and Bellamy fighting for her to come back. Love, sacrifice, forgiveness — all are main tenets of The 100, and all are wrapped up in Bellamy and Clarke.
It’s crystal clear that they’re paralleling Gabriel and Josie with Bellamy and Clarke. Josie dies, Gabriel letting her go while saying that their time is over, only for Bellamy to immediately bring Clarke back? Josie and Gabriel’s time is over, and Bellamy and Clarke’s is starting. A literal new life.
They really threw every romantic trope at them this episode. Clarke’s heart stopping in front of Bellamy and him pleading for her to come back? Bellamy saying he needs her? The CPR? The remnants of Josie try to kill Clarke, and she only comes back when she hears Bellamy’s voice? The first thing she sees when she comes back is Bellamy’s face? Octavia’s smirk in the back? The audacity.
This scene was lead up to with a full six seasons of development — from the beginning they were the head and the heart. Gabriel said it, the heart needs the head to tell it to beat. Clarke, clinging to her mind space, only came back because Bellamy restarted her heart. He’s her literal heart, guys.
Bellamy has thought Clarke was dead three times now — the first was during Praimfaya, the second when he discovered Josie was inhabiting Clarke’s body. Both of those times he could only witness and not do anything, so you better believe he wasn’t going to let Clarke die if he had anything to say about it.
There is a clear stage for romantic Bellarke being set here, and anyone who says otherwise is not watching the same show. You don’t have to like it, but it’s happening.
Honestly, anything I could say about this has already been said. Just know that this episode killed me, and I’ll be watching the next one from the afterlife.

Epidemic accelerating, says WHO emergencies chief
The emergencies chief of the World Health Organisation says the coronavirus is continuing to gain pace globally, reports AP. Noting the marked increase in the number of confirmed cases being reported in the past five or six weeks, he warned that a spike in deaths could be soon to follow. In April and May, we were dealing with 100,000 cases a day, said Dr Michael Ryan during a Tuesday press briefing. Today we're dealing with 200,000 a day. Ryan said the number of COVID-19 deaths appeared to be stable for the moment, but he cautioned that there is often a lag time between when confirmed cases increase and when deaths are reported due to the time it takes for the coronavirus to run its course in patients. Ryan also dismissed the idea that the significant jump in cases was due to more widespread testing and, said, This epidemic is accelerating."

8 Fantastic Platforms for Free Online Educational Content
In a world where many of our most important interactions seem to be taking place online, we are always on the lookout for all resources, including educational content, at hand to succeed in the digital world.
Something particularly true when it comes to ways of advancing our learning and self-development.
Despite the challenges we experience in 2020, today, we live in the best era to take advantage of e-learning content. Entrepreneurs and startups are doubling down on this unique opportunity to effectively promote their material, such as educational videos and courses, to wider audiences.
Such is the great content waiting for you online that we want to take on the task of introducing you to some of the best platforms for free educational content that you can start learning from today.
And maybe more importantly, why you should!
The Impact of Educational Content Platforms
Whether you want to improve your knowledge of science and history or to acquire new technical skills like programming to improve your resume, there’s content for you on the web that will help you expand your capacities.
But what exactly makes virtual programs so effective? Why are many even preferring the online format over the traditional classroom setting?
Consider the following e-learning trends:
E-learning programs are very personalized, which motivates learners to develop the soft skills and knowledge they need and care about.
Online educational content platforms tend to favor video-based learning, which significantly helps the student retain knowledge and engage more with the content.
The best learning modules will often feature top experts in different areas as instructors or speakers—something you don’t always get even at university!
Today we even see a move towards the gamification of the standard educational practices.
These are just a few reasons that play in favor of online education. But which platforms best implement these principles?
Best Platforms for Free Online Educational Content
1. Scholastic’s ‘Learn at Home’ Platform for Young Students
In a time where many kids are living their educational content experience from home, Scholastics is a great solution that supplies content for all grade levels—from Pre-K and Kindergarten to grades 1 to 5 and higher grades.
Scholastic offers free resources to parents and teachers to keep young children engaged during their learning journey. The platform is accessible from all devices, including smartphones, and its dashboard comes with handy resources and instructions to effectively guide the lessons.
The program is packed with material to work with at least 3 hours five days of the week. It includes theory, as well as activities and projects that the younger can practice with dedication.
The content is balanced between readings, videos, and even games that, for sure, won’t bore the young learner. But the lessons are developed to emphasize integration: instead of presenting the topics in a disconnected fashion, they are organized to show the connection between subjects.
With this platform at hand, learning from home can become a fun, enriching experience!
2. Codecademy’s Free Coding Courses
Codecademy’s mission is “to rethink education from the bottom up.” This is a platform that takes seriously the job of helping individuals learn and succeed in an online world that’s always changing, and that’s long left the model of textbook education behind.
The service focuses on providing knowledge on the tech and computer skills. Some of these include:
Data science.
Web development.
Programming.
Computer science.
Its instructors teach different programming languages, such as Python, SQL, and Javascript. But they never stop innovating. The site is constantly expanding its curriculum to meet new challenges.
If what’s been said so far has not sparked your interest in exploring the platform, wait until you hear the rest: Codecademy follows you through your learning progress in a personalized way.
Once you choose what you want to learn, you get to practice it in real-time. In the process, you will be receiving individual guidance in the form of feedback. You also have the chance to take on projects to put your skills to the test, start building your own portfolio, and finally land into your dream job.
Additionally, the service has special offers for businesses and schools, whose plans start at reasonable prices. In a time where most of our key professional and social interactions are taking place online, this is an invaluable asset to upskill your team or students.
3. Open Culture’s Massive Library of Educational Content
Open Culture is a very useful repository that collects, curates, and gives you access to material and courses found all over the internet. This is the platform you want to come to when you are looking for content that you don’t know where to find.
It hosts all kinds of content: not only will you find course lectures and transcripts as well as blog posts there—the platform also leads you to places where you can find free movies, audiobooks, and even professional podcasts.
The contents are neatly organized in browsed categories that are frequently updated. You can bet you’ll find almost any topic that comes to mind there: from standard school-level courses on math and literature to the history of jazz and fashion, and the latest news in Broadway.
You can join for free starting today by subscribing to their newsletter. There you’ll receive daily recommendations of thought-provoking readings, films, cultural reviews, and almost anything you can imagine!
4. Khan Academy’s Compendium of Academic Courses
The extraordinary rise of Khan Academy from a relatively unknown startup to a world-renowned platform should tell us something about the big opportunities in developing educational content platforms.
Khan Academy hosts hundreds of courses and a library that can be used as a great support for classrooms. In fact, about 70 million people used the platform and participated in their classes.
The courses cover a wide variety of topics that are essential for the young student’s (and the not so young’s) learning experience, including math, computing, science, history, and art. They have been translated in more than 36 languages, and there are Spanish, French, and Portuguese versions of the site.
But what’s truly valuable is the platform’s emphasis on its ideal that #YouCanLearnAnything. Through resources such as instructional educational videos, students are encouraged to learn at their own pace in building blocks according to their personal needs and interests.
Khan Academy is also very convenient for parents and teachers, as they can use the platform’s personalized dashboards to track the student’s learning process and, in that way, identify the areas where they need more help.
5. Future Learn’s Assortment of College Level Courses on Various Topics
If you are interested in approaching excellent college-level courses, then you should explore the options that Future Learn holds for you.
There you will find courses taught by top experts in academia and industry, whose contents you can audit for free. But if you are fully committed to taking your educational development one step further, the platform has plans that let you participate in full programs to earn a certified degree and formal accreditation.
But the opportunities don’t end there! One of the most exciting aspects of Future Learn is that it’s a community of fellow students that mutually supports its members. You’ll join a network of millions of students around the world with whom you can share your experiences and progress.
The subjects mainly focus on the classic curricula you find in an academic environment: you have classes on history, science, business, IT, and computer science. They are perfectly balanced between lectures, quizzes, videos, and tests to probe your knowledge.
But its modules on practical skills such as teaching and study methods are also very relevant, and some of the most popular on the web.
6. TED-Ed’s Motivational Talks
TED events are well-publicized, and for good reason: you get to see some of the best speakers in the world engaging with interesting, important, and relevant topics through talks and presentations.
TED’s website and YouTube channels are very useful places you can turn to when you have a question in your mind that you want to address. The talks are very entertaining as a rule, and the format is bit-sized, which means that you can always take 10 or 20 minutes off your schedule to learn something new.
The presentations often include slides and pictures, and sometimes they will be adapted to animation. Each talk is unique, as no two speakers approach the same subject from the same viewpoint. Each will give it his or her own personal imprint, and it’s not unusual to see some speakers be more technical, while others lean more heavily on things like humor to get their ideas across.
Another aspect that’s part of the TED formula is the speaker’s emphasis on the practical, life-changing implications of the topics they discuss. This commitment to the importance of ideas is reflected in the website, which often couples the videos with supplemental material and questions.
7. MoMA’s Series of Art-Related Classes
If there’s an area many of us haven’t been trained in, that has to be art critique and analysis. Judging art is a complex skill that demands deep work and background knowledge that’s not easily available.
It is a shame, really, since being able to judge and understand art is an immensely valuable skill that can enhance our appreciation of works and serve as a springboard to meaningful conversations with our friends.
Fortunately, we can fill this gap with the help of the free online courses created by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Its contents are hosted by Coursera, and they feature topics that cover many levels of complexity, none requiring previous expertise.
Some of the most interesting include:
What Is Contemporary Art?
In the Studio: Postwar Abstract Painting.
Fashion as Design.
Art & Inquiry: Museum Teaching Strategies for Your Classroom.
In those classes, you’ll join MoMA’s top experts and curators to explore the hidden wonders in some of the best works of art in history.
But what will blow your mind is the high-quality of the content: there you’ll see beautiful, curated images and shots of the works and exhibitions the museum hosts, like you won’t find anywhere else.
So now you know: there’s a solution for our general lack of knowledge in art waiting for us. After taking a couple of classes, you’ll never feel left behind again next time someone asks your opinion about a great painting or sculpture.
8. Stanford Online’s Higher Education Programs
Stanford Online gathers some of the best minds you find at the University of Stanford’s campus. It is part of the Stanford Center for Professional Development, which since 1995 has been one of the world pioneers in the move towards distance learning.
The developers create their material through the collaboration of third-party organizations and platforms, such as Coursera, Edx, and iTunes. The offers include dozens of free college-level courses, as well as graduate and professional custom program that are open for credentials.
Stanford is also known for hosting other key resources for professionals and academics, like the renowned Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, which is accessible to anyone who wants to engage with profound thinkers and expand his knowledge.
Although the list of courses is not as extensive as that of other hubs, all of Stanford’s modules are of top-notch quality. Another thing that makes this platform worthy of attention is that the contents are up to date with the most important issues and challenges that we face as a society.
Start Expanding Your Horizons
Today, the barriers of money and distance are not an obstacle to getting the best possible education. With virtually any electronic device and reliable Wi-Fi connection, you can have access to resources that have nothing to envy to the world’s best universities.
We’ve taken you through truly fantastic platforms that you can use either for improving your knowledge and skills as a professional, as well as for helping your children or students.
As you’ve seen, the opportunities are immense, and there’s no fear of not being able to adapt: most platforms strive to promote ways of putting your skills into practice.
There are many other platforms like these that are waiting for you to discover them. What will you start learning today?

But there are some other more surprising technical universities offering top-notch degrees online like the University of Minnesota. And let’s not forget about Embry-Riddle.
But rather than call any one of these programs the best, I’m going to let you weigh the pros and cons of each as I take a look at each school’s strengths and weaknesses.
Each school has some particular strength that got it on this list.  That’s not to say these are the “best” schools or that these schools even compete with each other for the same students.  This list is to get you thinking about your options so you can choose the university that best matches your goals and interests.
Online Technical Schools That May Surprise You
So, with all that in mind, here are 13 online technical colleges that are accredited and respected programs, each with certain strengths and weaknesses in comparison to other comparable options.
1. University of Minnesota-Twin Cities
The strength of University of Minnesota-Twin Cities is a high rate of graduation and retention.  Graduation rates are around 73% and retention rates are 92%.  Those are astronomical numbers for an online degree program and show how committed UMTC is to making sure their students cross the finish line. UMTC is also a top-ranked national university.
It’s a selective program that is regionally accredited and costs around $22,000 per year.  It’s a very good choice for those who want an online program with many of the traditional elements of a university, including research production, remedial courses and academic counseling.
2. Indian River State College
Indian River State College is, by far, the most affordable college on the list, only costing around $2,000 per year, nearly 25% of the cost of other degree programs on the list.  Still, it is accredited and has physical facilities befitting a public college.
The college has won numerous awards for its affordable online technical programs and offers real “bang for the buck” for those admitted to its programs.  This is the one school that is on this list for its affordability, which could be, obviously, a major consideration for any student.
Most of the other programs offer financial aid, so they are similar to “traditional” schools in the debt burden students can expect to rack up.  How much you are willing to “invest” in your education is a whole different discussion, but IRSC proves you can get a “real” degree without leaving in debt in the 5 or 6 figure range.
3. Regent University
Regent University will definitely be a surprise to some readers.  Started in 1977 by Reverend Pat Robertson, Regent is a private Christian college.  As such, it might not be for every student, however in its 40 years of operation, Regent has developed strong academic credentials, a history of research and most importantly a very strong online degree program with over 110 offerings.
Some students may want a Christian education and Regent is a place where that is a part of their mission, but it’s fully accredited and generally respected by many people who don’t know it’s origins as an evangelical Christian university.
4. Arizona State University
Arizona State University is one of the traditional state universities that has been one of the earliest adopters of online degree programs and continues to be an excellent choice for online technical education.  It has 150+ online programs and is ranked 4th in online degree granting.
Again, you get the reputation of a degree from an institution known as a place of scholarship and education from well before its days going online.  ASU has online tutoring, research assistance and career counseling.  Full time online students are also exempt from out-of-state tuition costs.  ASU, as well as Minnesota, is a place where real resources have been spent to make sure that online learning is studied and improved so it can be most effective for students.
5. Strayer University
Strayer’s roots go back to 1892, but it has in recent decades shifted to online education.
Its retention and graduation rates make it a good choice for many students who don’t need the research or physical presence of some of the other programs attached to major universities and colleges.  It’s also known for high minority student enrollment and a focus on working adults.
6. Western Governors University
Western Governors University was founded in 1997 by the governors of 19 states seeking to create a model that was based on courses that allowed students to pass based on competency.  As such, it was able to offer enrolling students some ability to get credit for previous education or work experience. No minimum GPA or standardized test scores are required.
Each student at WGU is assigned a mentor, as well.  For students who wish to take advantage of previous experience and work at their own pace,  especially those who are organized and independent, WGU is a school to consider.  If you want to have a different model of learning and are self-motivated, WGU can get students to degree completion faster than almost any other program.
7. Oregon Institute of Technology
Oregon Tech is one of the most technology-focused schools on this list with substantial online offerings.  Its residential campus is in Klamath Falls, Oregon and it has several other campus branches.  It’s the only public polytechnic school in the Northwest.
As a campus with a polytechnic university past, its online programs are highly respected and well taught.  You can expect the faculty and curriculum here to be very high quality, indeed.
8. George Mason University
George Mason University began as part of the University of Virginia but became independent in 1972.  It’s probably the most prestigious school on the list here and tuition isn’t cheap, at over $17,000 per year.  For many students, however, the opportunities that come with a GMU degree will make it worth the expense over the long haul.
It should be at the top of the list for students looking for a selective program with a tremendous reputation and top-notch faculty for whom the cost is less of a consideration.  GMU is an example of how even very selective schools that normally have to turn away a huge number of the applicants for their traditional programs are branching out into online education.
9. University of Nebraska at Omaha
The Nebraska system as a whole has also been one of the most progressive state universities going into the online degree field.  UNO is home to the Peter Kiewit Institute, a $70,000,000 facility dedicated to computer science and engineering making it arguably the strongest technical education program to offer full online degrees.
Online costs are approximately $11,000 per year, putting it in the middle of the pack in terms of tuition.  As such, it’s probably only eclipsed by Indian River in terms of bang for the buck.  This is a program that is going to give online learners access to faculty and resources right on the cutting edge of technology fields.
10. American Public University
The American Public University System was founded as the American Military University in 1991.  However, despite its name it is neither a public university or specifically affiliated with the United States military.
The university has a very high number of students who have served in the military and offers good coordination with those receiving GI Bill benefits, so it may be one of particular consideration for students with a military or public service background.
11. Murray State University
Murray State, which is based out of Kentucky, is a reasonably affordable online program that runs about $10,000 per year in annual tuition.  They are another program that has a strong online presence with a smaller student population than some of the other options.
Murray State offers a streamlined 42 credit hour program intended to get people through the program quickly and efficiently. So, this makes Murray State a bit of a “goldilocks” program for some students with just the right mix of having a connection to a traditional university, but still offering innovative ways to speed up degree completion and incorporate non-traditional elements, like Western Governors University.
12. New Mexico State University
New Mexico State University offers a program that is interdisciplinary and focuses on having students work through practical applications like hardware construction, website development and other hands-on problem solving.
For students who are active learners and prefer project based education over more classroom theory, this could be the most appealing program in the list.
13. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
You wanted to be surprised—how about a degree from the “Harvard of the Sky?”  It’s certainly not the easiest school on the list to get into, but for those students who say, “The Sky is the Limit” this could be the school for you.
A school with the prestige of Embry-Riddle offering an online degree through their “Worldwide” online designation is something we would be remiss not to make note of.  If you’re a top-flight student who is still set on doing an online education, this could be worth your time to investigate.  The education you’ll get here is second to none, online or otherwise.
Some Final Thoughts
This isn’t an exhaustive list and these schools are not being “ranked” by their positions on the list.  Prospective students are advised to thoroughly research these or any other schools they may be considering.
One of the goals of this article in contrast to other similar takes on the subject is to offer several universities that are more in contrast to each other than they are alike.  So if one of the programs here is attractive, then you might want to take the next step and see what programs are in competition with that school.
Do you want a school that specializes in online education like Strayer?  Or do you want a degree from a university with prestige like George Mason?  How much help are you going to need?  Can you pace yourself at a school like Western Governors University or do you want the kind of support that Arizona State or Minnesota Twin Cities provides?  Or perhaps even more. Additionally some colleges offer credit for prior learning, something that wasn’t addressed here, but may be of interest to returning students.
Many schools have helpful websites or can be reached by phone for personal consultation.  Pursue your dreams and best of luck!
We’d love to hear your thoughts! What’s your favorite tech university offering online programs?

Entry 153
I knew I was naked as I stared into the mirror, but Mila projected Calamity’s costume on me so perfectly that I might as well be clothed in that beautiful costume.  She followed each movement perfectly as I practiced the song and dance again.  I spent days learning to pretend I was singing, discerning how to match the beat of the music against my skin with the exaggerated movements of my mouth.  I was confident now that I could pull it off as perfectly as the rest of them.  The other training had continued too, of course.
I learned the basics of martial arts in the mornings, becoming more and more aware of the difference between what I was learning and what James could already do.  Punching at him at his own speed could lead to far more things than I would have guessed at the beginning of the week.  He could twist my arm and throw me with ease, block my punch while countering with a punch or kick of his own, or even bend around my punch to quickly pin me.  Fighting could be more creative than I had known.
During the day, I was often working my way through tutorials with Mila, learning all sorts of things she assured me could be useful in my job here.  I knew a little about fixing things already, since Mama Ver and I could rarely afford help.  The tips I learned from Mila would have been incredibly useful growing up, saving us from some of the problems we caused while trying to get things working.  Plumbing, carpentry, electrical work… Mila could teach all of it.  She also pointed out numerous ways I could use such knowledge while out saving people.
Once I knew electrical systems well enough, she assured me I’d be able to cut the power to a single apartment, a building, or wherever else I wanted, given that I had access to the right room.  Criminals often panicked in the dark, despite operating there often.  The difference was that they feared other monsters when unexpected things happened.
I was less interested in catching up on schooling I had missed, but Mila was quick to point out the benefits there as well.  I needed to get my GED before I was allowed to take the college courses offered through Best Friend For Hire, and Mila had promised that advanced knowledge there could help me fight crime.  Batman often came up in her conversations with me.  She’d show me clips of cartoons, comics, and movies as demonstrations of how forensics could help me end various types of crime more quickly.  I had to admit that my detective skills could use a bit of work.
I did have a good memory, and Mila easily kept things moving at my own pace.  I told her to go “full speed ahead” at one point and didn’t catch a thing.  She was fast.  Oddly enough, she really seemed to care too, so I did my best to pay attention.  Getting through the boring parts wouldn’t really take me long, especially if I gave up nights of patrolling here and there.  The city could survive me taking small breaks long enough for me to become a better hero.
,,,^._.^,,,
I stared at the ceiling and sighed.  Barely a week had passed since I told James I wanted to date him, and he was quite obviously over me already.  His awkwardness was gone.  When we danced at his birthday, I could tell he didn’t think of me in that way.  There was no romance to it for him, just two friends having fun.
“Mila, tell me that I’m going to feel better.” I commanded.
“You already are feeling better, silly.  You’re better every day.” she replied.
“Do you really think so?” I asked.
“You’re quite over him, completely ready to take on the world.” she assured me.
“I almost miss the awkwardness though!  I think he’s completely allocated me to ‘employee’ now with no thought of the us-ness that we’ve had.” I admitted.
Mila sighed and said, “The master is busy.  You know he is, and he does make time to hang out still.”
“Only as a group, briefly during the day.  He’s spending all his nights training with Alma.” I argued, hugging my pillow.
“The guild isn’t the same when he isn’t online, but the master needs his lessons as well.  Self-improvement is very important.” she insisted.
“Ha!  You’re already perfect.” I told her.
“Not in the slightest.  The princess easily exceeds me in every way.” she claimed.
“I somehow doubt that, but Aaliyah is pretty spectacular.  I just miss my man-slave!” I whined.
“You’re part of his home.  Do you think he could replace you as a gardener?” she asked.
“Obviously not.  I’d dare him to try!” I shouted.  No one was going to take my gardens from me.  I put way too much love into them to give them up.  Well, he could technically fire me, but the place would be a mess.  I knew every last plant out there more intimately than anyone else could imagine.  I still fixed my mom’s yard each week for her, not wanting to risk her ruining it.
“Emma, you have as many years together as you want.  Everyone thinks of the master.  They can’t help it.  If you understood the resources I’ve devoted to him, you’d see that we share a boat together.” she admitted.
“Are you in love with him, Mila?” I asked, biting my lip afterward as I thought about an A.I. in love.
There was a pause before she said, “I will always love my master.  As for how that compares to your feelings, we’ll never fully know.”
“He’s a show off, you know.  I can’t believe how quickly he picked up that dance Aaliyah showed us.” I told her.
“Sorry, Emma, but his success was well within my estimates.  The master is experienced and quite skilled.  Look how cute he was when he was younger.” she told me.
A movie of James dancing started playing on the nearby mirror.  He was young, not even in high school yet, but he was still James, performing a ballet in tights.
“I miss Regina.  We were getting so close.” I stated.  She popped into my head shortly into the performance.  She had chased after James for years with no luck.  Seeing how he looked at Alma would have killed her.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.  Oh, man-slave…  He still didn’t have a clue what he was getting into, and there was so little I could do to help him.  I sighed.
“I would tell you not to be blue, but you make such beautiful blue flowers.  You do well with blue.  Green suits you as well, though not the envious type.  I enjoy your pinks, whites, and yellows as well.” she assured me.
I smiled and said, “Thank you, Mila!  I’m glad you noticed.” The flower beds changed daily, depending on my mood in the morning. Tomorrow’s would be vibrant.  I was going to have a great day.  We were all heading to a convention together, and I’d get to explore and have fun.  I could worry about the man-slave in a week or two, when I’d have more time.  Tomorrow was for adventure!
