So what made you switch from marcanne to sashanne, and was it season 3 absolutely gutting all Marcy screentime? (I’m still a hardcore marcanne shipper, but I hope this doesn’t sound too salty genuinely sorry if it does)

Oh! Thank you for the question! Not sure where you got this information from, since I've been more active about this on Twitter (or maybe I said it here before but I really couldn't remember), but yes that's right. I was all in favor of Marcanne being the endgame for so long. However... when none of my Marcanne expectations (or even just a smidge of it) happened, I just... went quiet about the ship.

For the record, I was a Sashanne shipper from the beginning. It just wasn't as pronounced as my love for Marcanne due to the fact that I just didn't love it as much and that I thought there wasn't a chance (because people hate Sasha and it'd be controversial if the main character gets together with the former villain).

What got me into Sashanne more was, surprisingly, a fanfiction. A story that was written by a very dear friend and one that I did a personal project for (still ongoing). It had the best retelling of Amphibia Season 3B and, if you haven't read it, I suggest you do. You won't be disappointed in it at all. (Links: Prequel, Sequel)

I will talk more about my opinions of the shipping dynamics in Amphibia someday or once I got the time, but I'll leave you with this:

Marcanne, to me, is a representation of innocence. Sashanne, to me, on the other hand, is a representation of balance - between sweet and loyal and angst and trauma. I guess it's because I'm already at an age where innocence is... just not enough. It's... boring. Not enough "problems" to tackle with. It's just... too nice. It's too much like a fairy tale. And I don't really like that. Anymore, at least.

Sashanne isn't a fairy tale romance.

Sasha was the worst person in Anne's life. She betrayed her twice. But after seeing all of the consequences of her actions, Sasha chose to say "I want to be someone better. Someone that deserves you." in the canon show. She was willing to work goddamn hard to be better. And that... is just the sweetest thing.

Anne might've developed trust issues and that's understandable. She wanted to not trust Sasha anymore, kept thinking that she's "the same Sasha she's always been". But when Sasha finally proves how much she's willing to improve herself, Anne just... accepts it. "Look at where we are now", as she said in the canon show.

There's so much "I hate you but I love you"'s in this.

Who wouldn't want to ship such a couple?

Their dynamic is just so goddamn good and interesting.

I could say more, but this will become a Sashanne appreciation post.

To fully answer all your questions, no. It's not about Marcy's lack of screentime.

i need to talk about the fact that...what stopped andrias was just. a simple letter of love. not a grand reveal of some secret ex machina. not blackmail. not leif telling him he should've known better.

no. no, it was just - her love. it was her imploring him to not turn into the very thing he did turn to. because despite it all, despite years apart and a friendship that ended up shattered into a thousand little pieces, she remembers him well. remembers him fondly, believes that he's good, that he deserves better than turning into some cruel, unfeeling monster. because she loved him, and never stopped loving either him or barrel, two ghosts that haunted her as she built wartwood from the ground up.

and. and it got him to stop, for a moment. got him to crumble, to allow a thousand years' worth of feelings to barrel (ha) through.

it was enough to do that. but andrias was right - it was too late.

the things he's done are unforgivable, the person he's become too...unflexible and broken. i sincerely hope he dies in the next episode, if he hasn't already. but this moment - this shred of humanity - is so, so important. because the most powerful thing isn't a weapon, or immorality, or lacking any emotion. the most powerful thing is love. love in the moment, or the echo of it - that's what breaks and builds. and i don't mean romantically! love and change are the core (ha!) of amphibia! as my dear friend @bloop-arts put it: love is the driving force behind every character! love pushed anne into harnassing her powers for a longer time! love and her inherent nature of wanting to protect drove sasha to defeat darcy! love had the plantars facing their worst nightmare in order to save the boonchuys! love and the belief she had in her friends pushed marcy into refusing the core! love!

even when it was too late, love managed to save. and i think that alone makes this episode a complete masterpiece, at least to me.
