HOW TO USE

write or paste your text into the text field!

in the bar at the top you'll find the tumblr formatting options, custom colors + a few other fun bits and bobs

when you're satisfied, just hit the GET CODE! button, which outputs your text as html! you can skip right to step 5, unless:

if you also want double- or triple-spaced text, simply hit DOUBLE SPACE IT! or TRIPLE SPACE IT! right above the code. this only works after you've generated the code.

copy your code and then go into the settings menu of your tumblr post. under "text editor" you can choose the html editor and paste your code in there.

and done! add any images you'd like and you're ready to go!

the tumblr version of the roleplay formatter has been merged into the mobile version.

why the change at all? we hate change: because managing two sites is double the work and it makes harder to update the coding on both platforms seamlessly. having two sites hosted on different platforms doubles the chances for bugs and glitches and it doubles the load of work. i'm only one person and i deal with chronic health issues which limits how much time and energy i can plausibly pour into a hobby. simplifying the formatter will be more efficient and kinder on my health long term.

why i merged the tumblr version into the carrd version instead of the other way around?: the tumblr version only works on desktop while the carrd version is adaptable to mobile devices hence why i've been calling it "the mobile version" but it works on desktop just as well. it made the most sense to keep the version that works on both desktop and mobile.

what is changing and what's staying the same: you'll only have to update your bookmarks if you have the url bookmarked :) i have added the night mode option from the original tumblr version to the mobile carrd version so that feature is still available and as far as the editor itself goes all features remain the same.

the con: the only thing i couldn't add to the carrd version is the toggle between 1080px and 540px boxes. this is because of how carrd adjusts the width of the content to device screen/resolution. if i add fixed sized boxes it will not work on mobile, which is why the carrd version was created in the first place. since this was the least used feature it was sacrificed to the gods :B

conclusion: the original link will remain active with a button redirecting to the updated carrd link, previously referred to as the mobile version.

you can keep using the formatter the same way you were before, just in a different url. unless you were already using the carrd hosted version, in which case nothing changes for you except having night mode now.

Helpful RP TIPS ✨feat. beta editor

subject : how to make custom text colours && formatting.

using beta editor is a learning curve for those of use that are used to legacy ( rip ol' boi ) . you can say goodbye to all that beautiful custom formatting that gave your blog that PIZZAZ. . . . SIKE !! you can still do all that time consuming / wonderful formatting just as easy. there is a small work around but one you should be used to if you are using Roleplay Formatter ( view this tutorial here ) .

luckily for you, i'm going to show you an easy way to make your text colours match your blog aesthetic using icons && graphics.  

first youre going to want to pull up adobe PhotoShop ( PS for short ) or any other editing service you use for your icons / graphics. the most important part if that it uses the ' EYEDROPPER ' tool function. now assuming your icons / graphics ( i'll be using my icons as an example ), already have the PSD you want attached an active-- use the eyedropper tool on the colours you want to use. i recommend three for variety but you can do as many as you want. 

keep in mind by default most people's blog editors have a white background. so using white text is not recommended. i personally like to use 1 vibrant colour && 2 muted colours because of eye strain. vibrant colours can be overwhelming for some viewers but you are welcome to do whichever colours you like. it is subjective after all.

now that youve selected your colour, consider having a notepad ready ( either digital or ol' fashioned pen & paper ) . at the TOP RIGHT side of the program in PS you'll see your colours, click the top overlayed square. this will open a sub-menu that shows you indepth stats. from there you'll see that EXACT colours HEXCODE. 

go ahead && write down the HEXCODEs including the ' # ' sign. you'll plug in this code here in the Roleplay Formatter. ( the ' A ' symbol at the TOP RIGHT. ) from there another sub menu will open and you'll click ' More Colors '. that is where you will plug in your hexcode. while the editor is open it will save your colours, however when you close they will disappear which is why i recommend writing them down. but you can always just have PS open and copy & paste them from there. its a matter of personal prefenece at this point.

and thats it. Thats the whole thing. take your now formatted and coloured reply, copy the source code and paste it into t/umblr's HTML editor ! play around with bolding, italics, capitalizing, && enlarging / shrinking specific words or phrases to give your reply that speical little OMPH !! you're on your way to being a pro, good job !

You know that high-school level of petty that is like-checking under a post that a mutual of yours made, and if a person that you don't like has liked it before you you avoid clicking like, and it's incredibly obvious when it happens and it's this silent, one-sided war between two people over someone else's blog? Like, you're not even reading the post, be it an headcanon they worked hard to write and connect the dots on, or an OOC post that narrated a bit of their life that mutuals should be happy to know about, or an ask, or absolutely anything else? Yeah.

Don't subject people to this. It's not about you. It's never about you under someone else's post. And I'm gonna sound rude, but I don't care how much you try to make it about you and your like-war and ''beef'' with this other group of people, or person. Try to do this over my posts and when I'll catch on it's going to be the first thing I'll hardblock for.

i’ve found i need a bigger text box than the one in the spacing generator by byluna, though this was most definitely inspired by it. other sites with text editors have distracting colors and look very cluttered so i decided to do something about it ^^

this is a full sized editor, simple and minimal to avoid any distractions with a wide text box and adjustable height.

the options supported by tumblr / that you can use to format your replies are:

source: copy and paste the code for your reply

B I U S : bold, italics, underlined and strike

styles > small : make text small

format: headline 1 and headline 2, h2 is the most commonly used headline

text color: like this. find the hex code for any color you want here.

numbered / bullet points

blockquotes

image (it has to be uploaded to tumblr!)

formatter mobile friendly

important note! (legacy posts only, npf posts do not have this issues)

if your reply includes a @ mention or color text do not switch back to the rich editor, the color will be gone and the @ mention may or may not work at all.

if you want to preserve color text in your partner’s reply, click on edit reblog and switch to the html editor without touching anything. copy the code, paste it in the rp formatter to trim, write and format your reply as usual. this post explains it in detail.

unpopular opinion here most likely - my apologies of the infrequent posting and probably me being VERY late to the party - but hearing everybody complain about the beta editor for so long is getting old . it’s actually not THAT bad as everybody makes it out to be ( as i have been testing it for a while now myself ) . it’s just mildly infuriating that people are so against change & always complain about it .  

yes . i do prefer the legacy editor . yes , i still use the legacy editor since i still have it . but the beta editor has been around for quite some time ( especially on mobile - so i have had the chance to use it ) . and really , it’s not that hard to pick up . 

yes , i absolutely understand that beta is clunky & weird . yes , i understand the concept of ‘ if it aint broke , dont fix it ’ . but i think people also dont give it a chance either until they are forced and then complain about it .

i only say this because ONE thing that i actually DO like about the beta editor is that you CAN switch from html to rich text & beta ACTUALLY HOLDS your coding - even for the coloured text . which is something that i find really amazing actually . I just use this RP formatter to hash out my coding to make my life easier .

downside is that many of the shortcuts for the beta post editor are gone , but i dont notice anyway since i use the formatter anyway .

OOC. Hi, I just wanted to ask what would be a good way to get started on RP tumblr? I've roleplayed lots on Instagram and twitter before but I would love to use tumblr more, do you have any tips?

Hi nonnie! I can sure try and give you some tips, and I'll leave some links to more comprehensive posts bc I'm not always the best at explaining things alsdfkjgh. It does seem very intimidating at first, and I remember I had someone to help me when I made my first tumblr rp blog, which helped a lot. I don't know much about twitter or instagram rp, so i'm not sure how it works there or how it's different on tumblr. Under the cut just in case it gets long:

First, tagging systems. I highly recommend having one. Mine on here is very simple, just a few symbols and the tag. I think the most important ones are ooc, headcanons, in character, but others that most people have are: inbox/meme/prompt tag, image/self tag for images of the muse, aesthetic, musings, answered. Some people also use quotes to make each tag, and I'll put an example of mine for another muse of mine, but that's not necessary (because trying to think of a quote for every tag kinda drives me nutty sometimes)

Two, make sure you have clear rules. You can see an example of mine in my carrd, but I would recommend covering: mutuals only or not, what you are or are not comfortable with writing, your stance on exclusivity/ship exclusivity, mun does not equal muse disclaimer. It's good to state boundaries from the get go imo. And do not be afraid to block/softblock people to curate your space.

People use carrd a lot for their rules and info, but it's not a necessity. A pinned post, a page on your blog, a google doc all work just as well. You don't need to go ham with graphics if that doesn't spark joy for you, so don't feel pressured to.

And a speed round: make sure to read people's rules before interacting with them (and follow them), familiarize yourself with xkit rewritten and learn to trim posts (there are tutorials on how to use the extension all over), don't be afraid to turn anon off if people are being weirdos. If you like the colored text look, I highly recommend roleplay formatter (and rpclefairy has tutorials on using it) because it makes it so much easier.

It seems like a lot at first, but honestly, I learned best by jumping in and doing.

did you know you can use xkit on mobile? You just need firefox beta app and then you can enable the kit add-on! Then if you want aesthetics, it's very easy! There's also an rp formatter that someone made for tumblr so it's easy to add images and aesthetics to your posts that way!

OH FUCK, and I'm just learning about this NOW?? Whoever you are, I'll just imagine you as a god send duck angel. Seriously, this is great! Does it take a lot of space on the phone? I usually use Chrome but since you're suggesting Firefox, I'm guessing it's strictly to just that?

001.  this blog is very low activity. she's a muse that comes and goes as she likes, so i just go along with her. this of course means that following / following back will always be at my discretion, and might take a little bit of time for me to do. just bear with me when it comes to speed 💜 as it states above, i'm 30+, which means i won't be interacting with writers under the age of 21.

002. all the general rpc stuff applies on here -- icons and edits are mine, gifs used are not but are credited. please don't steal either / any. don't godmod, don't be rude, don't be gross. drama is a hard pass for me. i really don't want to see it, and i definitely don't want to be a part of it. i don't mind using the block button or unfollowing if i need to. i use icons or rp - sized gifs in my replies; small text and the occasional splash of color if i remember to use that formatter .... on your end, i don't mind how you format or if you use icons or not, and more often than not i'll default to matching your style for the sake of continuity ( and it just makes my brain happy, y'know? ) all i ask is please cut your posts.

003. door's main verse is set within what i like to call the GLU, aka the gai.man literary universe. which means i basically see all his works living together in the same universe -- so sandman, good omens, american gods, all of those are sandboxes to play within. there's also a heavy urban fantasy element to neverwhere, so there will be dark themes present & mentions will be tagged as 'trigger here tw' or 'trigger here cw'. anything suggestive or sex.ual in nature will be tagged as nsft. if there is something else you would like to be tagged, please let me know!

004. plotting is highly encouraged! im's are always open for a chat. memes are also a fantastic way to start interactions! i'm also happy to, and i love the challenge of, coming up with au's and crossovers for door. she comes from a small fandom to begin with, so i'm happy to toss her into the world of your muse too. so please come to me with any/all ideas for crossovers and the like. love love love them.
