overthinking about tma again and idk if this has been said before, but do yall think each season represents jon’s journey into the supernatural with the five stages of grief? (major spoilers, so be warned)

season 1 - denial. self-explanatory

season 2 - anger. there was a LOT of anger in s2 - jon’s paranoia caused him to stalk his coworkers and get defensive and angry when people called him out on it

season 3 - bargaining. jon now knows more about the fears, he understands the situation now, and he’s doing his best to navigate this world without being eaten by any of them. he knows elias has “plans” for him now, but won’t tell him what they are, which leaves jon trying to negotiate information from him (and other avatars) whenever he can.

season 4 - depression. idk about yall, but s4 was definitely the most depressing season. tim just died, daisy got stuck in the buried, melanie was spiralling out of control, martin isn’t talking to jon. the only people who are still talking to him as a friend at the start of s4 are basira and georgie (who wants nothing to do with the situation). basically, all the pillars of support jon had in s1 are gone now and he’s alone more than ever. everyone also feels stuck and trapped in the Institute - jon offering to run away with martin, melanie “severing” her connection with the eye, etc. also there’s the whole lonely/peter lukas thing, which is quite literally a metaphor for depression.

season 5 - acceptance. jon has learnt to accept who he is now, and his place in the fearpocalypse. he explains to martin that though he wants to help the people trapped in the domains, he can’t. there’s also a very “accepting your fate” kind of vibe at the end - jon’s fine with dying, he’s fine with going to another dimension, so long as he’s with martin.

thinking about how ruby is mean to otis because she feels so strongly for him she's scared showing it will make her vulnerable. thinking about how she allowed herself to let her walls down with otis and put her heart out on the line, telling him "i love you", only for him not to say it back. thinking about how ruby lied and said that she broke his heart, not the other way around, because she desperately needed to regain control of a situation over which she had none. thinking about how ruby must have felt when she saw otis kissing maeve literal days after they broke up, proving once and for all that he did love someone, it just wasn't her.
