        It’s messier than he expected it to be and wonders if it was like this when Bellamy stayed here. Miller had never asked his friend and now he’d never get the chance. All he knows is that Bellamy’s sister was the single most important person in the fallen soldier’s life. They’d made a promise to take care of the other’s loved ones back home and he knows Bellamy would’ve kept his word about Bryan had it happened the other way. Hesitantly, he knocks on the door to the office-type room ( just a closest, really), even though it’s slightly ajar. ❛ Jesus Christ… ❜ he mutters under his breath, eyes shifting around the room to take in the scattered papers, the maps of what is clearly Afghanistan on the wall, the books lining the floor.

it was bound to come out. for octavia to find out that he’d been sleeping with raven. he wasn’t sure if it was anything serious; if he wanted anything more than someone to sleep with. and every time he crawled into bed with her; his mind was on someone else. on octavia. and he’s come to realise that he’s probably lead raven on. flirted with her because it was fun. because she’s attractive. because she’s new and exciting ( and NOT his sister ). at least, he thought he would be avoiding the guilt that he feels with octavia ( though he’s gotten good at ignoring the guilt because he loves her so much ). 

but sleeping with raven has guilt settling over him like a dark cloud of smoke. following him wherever he goes. a pang that rings out as loud as his text message tone whenever raven sends something; most often inviting him over to her apartment. or asking him when octavia won’t be there. ( but he could never do that. he could never brings her here. this was his and octavia’s space. their sanctuary ).

and now he’s standing in the kitchen; a few feet away from her. tears glistening on her rosy cheeks - his heart dropping to his stomach. lump in his throat forming.

he pauses. he isn’t really sure what to say. letting his wallet and keys drop upon the counter; his eyes not once leaving her smaller frame. fingers itching to curl around her palms; lips wishing to be upon her own rather than be struggling to form around an excuse. he’s made a mistake. slept with someone for a new experience when everything he needs is a sniffly mess across the room.

        the journey back home by horse was quicker than it usually was on foot. as they rode towards their destination they spoke, sharing stories of their lives and for the first time in a long time, ilian didn’t feel too frightened to return home. they were fast approaching when she asked him the question, “tell me more about the farm?” he shrugs a moment, “well for one, my sheep are actually intelligent,” he glances at her then a hint of a smile on his lips before continuing to speak. he tells her about the wheelbarrow he’d helped build when he was much younger, how he’d been proud to help out on such a difficult project. he speaks on how many in trishanakru had relied on the wool from the sheep. he continues speaking about his home as they journey closer and closer that he barely notices the tiny bit of dread in the pit of his stomach the closer they come.

     His hair is still damp from a shower, muscle a little sore from their jog but he welcomes it. Octavia always pushes him to go the extra mile, they push each other really. Not just with exercise but in everything. Their competitiveness probably is not always a good thing, but he likes having someone who not only keeps up with him, but challenges him as well. Right now, though, there is nothing to compete over. He is relaxed into the corner of the couch, one armed wrapped loosely around her shoulders. It is easy to relax with her, he likes the peacefulness of holding her close in his arms. Roan turns his head to press a kiss into her hair, not really paying that much attention to what’s on the television.
