Green Mining: An Eco-Friendly Solutions
Mining is a major component of the worldwide economy because it provides the raw minerals that power contemporary society. Traditional practices can have a terrible environmental impact, damaging habitats, depleting water sources, and leading to climate change. To tackle these issues, a new strategy known as green mining is gaining traction.
Governments and mining companies are integrating advanced technologies aggressively to promote ethical mining practices and reduce waste from mining at each phase of the mining life cycle around the world. Increasing environmental consciousness, the negative effects of the mining industry, and increased government involvement in pollution management programs. Therefore, all these factors are predicted to boost the market expansion. In addition, according to a research report by Astute Analytica, the Global Green Mining Market is likely to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.6% over the projection period from 2023 to 2031.
What exactly is green mining?
Green mining is a way of collecting, sorting, and delivering metals, minerals, and fossil fuels that is environmentally friendly. It aims to lessen the negative environmental effects of operations while also conserving resources for generations to come. It entails adopting practices that reduce waste, energy use, and water usage, and stimulate reforestation.
How would green mining function?
Green mining also aims to reduce waste and promote environmentally responsible waste disposal. Traditional practices can generate huge volumes of waste, including poisonous and dangerous tailings. These practices encourage waste reduction and environmentally conscious waste management solutions such as tailings dams and waste material reuse.
It can aid to preserve resources and lower the environmental effect of operations by decreasing waste. Reforestation is another critical part of mining. Traditional practices can result in the destruction of significant tracts of forest, which can have disastrous consequences for local ecosystems and species. Green mining practices aim to encourage regeneration and the repair of degraded areas, hence aiding in environmental mitigation.
How does green mining benefit the mining sector?
Green mining practices are not only good for the environment but also the mining business. Adopting these practices can strengthen the industry’s reputation, promote client retention, and gain new customers. There is a growing need for ethically obtained metals and minerals as customers become more ecologically concerned. These practices can assist the sector in meeting this demand while also showing its dedication to environmental sustainability and resource management.
It can help minimize the effects like reducing water scarcity, and climate change, and promote reforestation by lowering the environmental impact of operations and saving resources. It is a critical component of a sustainable future, assisting the industry in becoming more environmentally responsible, cost-effective, and economically sustainable.
Conclusion:
Green practices are a method of long-term mineral extraction that helps both the industry and the environment. Green mining can help to build a more sustainable future by lowering the ecological impact of operations, preserving resources, and supporting sustainable development. It is positioned to play a growing part in the industry’s future as the world grows more conscious of the detrimental impact of traditional mining practices.

From humble beginnings, let me introduce you to the "Teacup Collection". This gorgeous 145ct+ parcel of mixed gems was originally mined by one of the families of Amie, a member of the Ladies Lapidary Collective we work with in Madagascar (from the same area we have helped set up more sustainable mining techniques and taught basic field gemmology). She came to me with a little teacup of stones and on inspecting the stones I could see it was the kind of material most people wouldn't even give a second glance or at best, pick out one or two stones and leave the rest. I decided I wanted to show people that you can find beauty in places that you might not always expect. So I purchased the parcel, had them cut in a responsible cutting factory and here we have the result. A fully traceable and responsibly sourced collection of gems proving that we shouldn't always pass over something because we can't see an immediate profit. We are selling this parcel and 100% of the profit made will go towards our new social enterprise developed to help women from developing nations enter the gem trade, this is project is called Responsible Gemstone Traders. This parcel will make an amazing collection of jewellery with a beautiful story. My Field
its really sad what has been happening in our field. yes there has been mistake in the past. but that has been our lesson and our inspiration of becoming the best mining engineer in the world.
for the past few months, our very own DENR Secretary has been fighting mining off our country. yes, we admire her advocacy towards taking care of our environment. she may have a point. but she NEVER gave us the chance to stand back up again.
we never wanted massive destruction. i mean, who wants that really. the law clearly states that whenever a permit is granted to the permit holder, he/she/they are only entitled for a certain number of years. i mean com’on! did you really think we can mine an area forever? nothing lasts forever. even our resources.
even if i would list all the science behind geology, mining and metallurgy, if she doe not open her mind for some lesson that MAYBE she can use in the future then whats the point?
but i would never give up trying to educate illiterate people. and i hope my fellow pro-mining guys would also do it. lets start little by little. lets not go for Facebook because people there are so STUPID and IGNORANT. they will fight for their own opinion. and i think that’s selfish.you only listen to yourself. learn to hear the side of others. pride does not take you anywhere but down. educated people would not try to correct you because your brain is so small, it cannot handle the information or better yet the truth.
i’m still hoping and praying for a sunrise in our industry. we are still under the eye of the storm.
ps. sorry for the grammar, i’m not perfect anyway. i was blown away by the issues.

How can people say that you did not follow Due Process when in fact mining firms are given specific days to explain why they will not be suspended nor closed? Why they weren’t take actions? Why they just protested after the time limit that you have given them? In case you will be failed for Commission on Appointments’ confirmation, who else will replace? The former officials who are just thinking about excise tax and GDP? How about the environment? How about the watersheds? Good luck to you, Madam Gina. I will always be your supporter. Introduction
Mining is an activity with a substantial potential for environmental harm. Mining involves the use and creation of highly toxic substances and can have impacts upon both water quality and water quantity; mines, being limited by the location of ore deposits, cannot be moved once developed. (Holden, et al, 2013).
According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, a third of the country’s total land area of 30 million hectares contained high deposits of gold, nickel, copper, and chromite, among others. As of February 2022, there were 55 operating metallic mining sites in the country. (Mining in the Philippines: Of Disasters and Regulatory Failures, 2022)
