Mit einer Tore-Gala haben die deutschen Handballer bei der Weltmeisterschaft in Frankreich Kurs auf das Achtelfinale genommen. Der Europameister setzte sich am Sonntag in Rouen gegen Außenseiter Chile erwartungsgemäß deutlich mit 35:14 (17:6) durch und kam zum zweiten Sieg im zweiten Spiel.

Abgehoben: Rune Dahmke gegen den chilenischen Keeper Rene Oliva.

“Das war ganz stark und gibt uns Mut für die nächsten Aufgaben”, sagte DHB-Vize Bob Hanning. Am Freitag hatten die Bad Boys zum Auftakt die Ungarn noch nach hartem Kampf mit 27:23 bezwungen. Gegen die bestenfalls zweitklassigen Chilenen zeichneten sich vor 5200 Zuschauern vor allem EM-Held Andreas Wolff und Jannik Kohlbacher mit acht Toren aus. “Ich war überrascht, wie konzentriert wir zu Werke gegangen sind. Das war über die 60 Minuten eine überragende Leistung”, meinte Keeper Andreas Wolff. Einziger Wermutstropfen: Der Berliner Paul Drux knickte vor der Pause mit dem rechten Fuß um und schied aus. Wie schwer die Verletzung ist, war zunächst nicht bekannt.

Nachdem die Kroaten bereits am Samstag gegen Ungarn ebenfalls zum zweiten Mal gewonnen hatten, deutet vieles auf ein Finale um den Sieg in der Gruppe C am Freitag gegen den EM-Dritten hin. Zuvor muss das DHB-Team noch am Dienstag gegen Saudi-Arabien und am Mittwoch gegen Weißrussland seine Pflichtaufgaben erfüllen.

Gegen die Chilenen, die in ihrem ersten Spiel bei ihrer vierten WM-Teilnahme Weißrussland bezwungen hatten, wurden die Bad Boys kaum gefordert. Bundestrainer Dagur Sigurdsson hatte seine Start-Sieben im Vergleich zum Spiel gegen Ungarn kräftig durcheinander gemischt. Unter anderem ersetzte Keeper Wolff den gegen die Magyaren starken Silvio Heinevetter im Tor. Auf den Außenpositionen durften Tobias Reichmann und Rune Dahmke für Patrick Groetzki und den zum WM-Auftakt gegen die Ungarn überragenden Kapitän Uwe Gensheimer ran. Gensheimer, der wegen der Beerdigung seines Vaters noch mindestens ein Gruppenspiel verpasst, kam nur zu den Siebenmetern ins Spiel und verwandelte alle vier sicher.

Wolff wird zum “Man of the Match”

Die Deutschen machten schnell die Kräfteverhältnisse gegen die körperlich wie spielerisch hoffnungslos unterlegenen Südamerikaner klar. Schon bis Mitte der ersten Halbzeit zogen sie vorentscheidend auf 9:3 davon. Einziges Manko in der Anfangsphase war die mangelnde Chancenverwertung gegen die ungewöhnlich offensive Deckung. Zudem hielt Chiles Keeper Rene Olivia zunächst stark. Doch auch sein Gegenüber Wolff durfte zeigen, dass er wie Teamkollege Heinevetter zur absoluten Weltklasse gehört. In der hitzigen Phase nach etwa 20 Minuten, als die deutsche Mannschaft mit zwei Mann in Unterzahl war, hielt der Kieler einen Siebenmeter und wehrte drei weitere Würfe ab. Allein in Halbzeit eins parierte er 63 Prozent der Würfe und wurde zum “Man of the Match” gewählt.

Auch nach der Pause ließen sich die Deutschen trotz klarer Führung nicht hängen, wurden aber auch nie ernsthaft gefordert. Coach Sigurdsson nutzte die Partie zum weiteren Einspielen seines Teams.

On the weekend, Renee took Robbie out to take his mind off things. He felt more comfortable if Jayleen was there, so Renee came along with Vincent! Visiting the Bloom Garden & Cafe was a nice escape from the busy city and they enjoyed the splendid views! But Renee and Vincent started talking about their jobs; something Robbie didn't want to hear. He tried to block out their voices, but all he heard was their success, making him feel like even more of a failure...

Then he heard enough. He made some snide remarks about their careers targeting Vincent's success and left to get some space. Renee should have known better about Robbie's work situation and went to check on him, "I'm sorry Robbie, we should've stopped." She let him vent his frustrations, listening and offering some big sister advice.

"There's one more thing...I'm a bit embarrassed to say this," Robbie admitted and talked about how he was intimidated by Vincent. "Oh, Robbie," Renee finally understood his perspective.

"Sorry, I shouldn't have said all that to you," Robbie apologised to Vincent. "Hey, it's ok. I get what you're going through, I've been there too," he managed a small smile, "You remind me of myself...when I was at the lowest point of my life." Robbie doesn't know much about Vincent or his past: all he thinks about is how he is now and how perfect his life seemed. His train of thought was interrupted by a gentle touch, "If you ever want to talk about it, I'll be here for you."

So how did we end up here? Vincent had a meeting to attend which left some time to kill with Renee and Isaac. When they came across a chess table, Isaac challenged Renee to a game. Who will capture all the pieces and checkmate the king?

In the end Isaac won! Renee went easy on him as she could see he wasn't that good at his strategy. She pretended not to notice his sly tactics but took that as an opportunity to observe her future brother-in-law. Next time she'll win for sure!

"I have something to tell you," Renee gently touched Vincent's shoulder as soon as he arrived home. The couple had been trying for a baby for a while now and today they were blessed with a special gift, "I'm pregnant!" Vincent had been waiting so long for this moment: tears welled up in his eyes. Words could not form in his mouth, so he held Renee close, not letting her go. She could hear the rapid beating of his heart slowly descend into a soft, calming rhythm ❤️

Lunch with Uncle Billy and Josh and sharing the big news with them!

After lunch, Renee talked about cases with Billy. She was in the early weeks of pregnancy and her work routine was pretty much the same! Renee asked if she was allowed access to the Strangerville archives to read about. At times, she thinks about Veronica and Strangerville. There were too many unanswered questions about the dangerous place and she wonders if she will ever see Veronica again. "I'll check with the director, I don't see why not," Billy replied.

Long story short, Noah and Connie are together now! The group were on a day trip in Windenburg and were taking a nice afternoon walk in Lykke Centre. They stopped mid-conversation and some big news was announced! What a wonderful surprise!

Soon the riding session ended and it was time to leave. But Vincent felt faint again. He stumbled towards a fence, dropped his hat to the floor, and touched his face. Full of sweat. "What's wrong Vince?" Renee said, concern in her eyes. "It's so hot. Uhh I'm still not used to this heat," he blinked a few times and wiped his forehead. "Let's head inside," Renee replied softly, holding him close. Little did they know someone had noticed them and was observing from a distance.

Vincent caught up on some work with Isaac and Renee came along to get some fresh air! "I'm just heading to the t-toilet..." for a second Renee thought she had peed herself, but it was her waters breaking. "Isaac drive the car over!" Vincent tried to control his breathing. Nothing could prepare him for this sudden panicking; he had to be strong for Renee. He was grateful his brother was there to calm him down and control the situation. The following moments felt like a whirlwind, but they travelled safely to the hospital and welcomed their new bundles of joy!!!

It was late into the night and Renee was back at the station. She needed to find the problem with Vincent's phone and why his messages didn't send. Renee relayed all the information Vincent told her and he emphasised using the hospital wifi. They figured his phone was hacked this way and someone was spying on him, preventing him from making calls or messages. With the cyber security knowledge of Captain Vazquez, they tracked the IP address of the device used to intercept Vincent's phone. And the location was Strangerville.

Now Renee had all sorts of thoughts in her head. Despite it being late at night, she found the whole process fascinating. And all the links to Strangerville. The police may be the only way to uncover more about the place and find out what the hell is going on there. Perhaps she should switch from her history course to criminology and become a detective. Yes, she will do that. Renee doesn't like history as much as she did anyway and she liked the idea of solving crimes.

By now, all the people close to Vincent know that Isaac is his brother. Everyone except Renee. Today they decided to tell her...

Renee was hurt but given the circumstances, she understood their reasons for keeping it from her and the detectives. Surely it would gather a lot of unwanted attention from the media when ideally the brothers wanted to investigate independently. Like how Vincent never knew the existence of Isaac. Or how Isaac lived a secret identity all his life, escaping from his past and eventually finding out about Vincent. Once they were confident in their direction then they will expand the investigation. And deal with all the consequences then.

It was her brother. Robbie has been quite absent in his sister's life. Since working as a researcher at a pharmaceutical company, he has been very fixated on his job. He stood there awkwardly, seeing Vincent in person for the first time and then noticed Renee's baby bump. "You're pregnant," he looked like he was about to cry, realising how much time had passed. Their relationship hadn't been the best and he avoided her texts as he struggled to communicate honestly; afraid of facing her. He didn't want to admit his faults or appear as weak in front of Renee; work hadn't been going well.

"We're expecting twin boys," Renee smiled. "How are you doing Robbie? How is work?" she replied as if they never had a difficult dynamic. Suddenly he missed his sister so much and wanted to tell her everything about his burnout. "Renee I missed you," he blurted out. Hopefully, this will be the start of rebuilding their relationship ❤️‍🩹
