rating almost every weaponizable beast-style object in yakuza: ELECTRICAL PANEL
Tumblr media
10/10
holy moly it's the electrical panel. this is by far the best beast-style weapon in the entire game (besides Bicycle). first of all, kiryu looks powerful and strong when he picks it up. you can practically feel how terrified his enemies are in the heft and breadth of this object, and rightfully so. imagine picking a fight with some guy on the street and he tears an electrical box out of the ground and holds it above his head and he is going to throw it at you. which, second of all, this thing not only bodies your opposition, it also shocks them silly somehow. since you're already beast moded you can go over, grab them by the ankle, and do that awesome thing where you slam them down. personally i gasp with delight when a fight starts and i see this thing. there's just no losing when you have Electrical Panel

rating every beast-style weapon in yakuza: beer & shochu banner
Tumblr media
3/10
if i had a thousand yen for every time i went to pick up a hedge or a bike and i picked up this piece of shit instead, i could get all the freaking stamina royale in the world. it doesn’t do any damage and it breaks at the drop of a hat. so why the three points? well, i think it can be useful even if it isn’t satisfying or powerful, and i like the animation of kiryu swinging it.

rating every beast-style weapon in yakuza: bicycle
Tumblr media
10/10
yes that’s right, the bike is in fact the perfect object. it may not push the ceiling on flat damage, but as it breaks apart against your enemies and turns from two wheels and a frame to just one wheel, you’ll almost always have built up enough of your heat bar to use that wheel to absolutely deck them w a finishing move. so damage per second is off the charts. bikes are around often but not all the time, so it feels special when you get to use one, and it’s dynamic and looks good in kiryu’s hands. i like that there are many different colors and kinds of bicycle conceptually, but in practice, i just grab that thing and destroy it as soon as possible. raw beauty. beauty that doesn’t need a name

rating every weaponizable object in yakuza: hammer
Tumblr media
5/10
things like the hammer or the knife, that could be weapons already (as in, weapons from your inventory like a handgun or a bat) but are instead just lying around, are pretty much the definition of mid. this is what you go for after you've already broken all the big stuff in the room, maybe the guy you're fighting can't be grappled, maybe you're just smashing buttons (as us beast-stylers are wont to do), and this weapon will work while not being especially exciting or effective.

rating every beast-style weapon in yakuza: cutting board/cheese wheel
Tumblr media
5/10
listen i remember there being one or maybe two kitchen fights between yakuza 0 and kiwami and i do not recall using this item whatsoever. the wiki says it’s a cutting board, i think it’s a cheese wheel, because i remember you can pick up food in the kitchen fight. 5 points off for being confusing, the rest of the five it gets for being funneyyy

rating every beast style weapon in yakuza: 10% up campaign sign
Tumblr media
6/10
frankly, this is just a little more than mid. it has nearly all the components of a perfect beast style weapon. it’s large and colorful, it’s fun to watch kiryu pick it up, but when he swings it, things get a little clunky. that, plus it doesn’t do nearly as much damage as i think it ought to. all in all, i would probably pick this up in a pinch, but it’s not my favorite.

rating every weaponizable object in yakuza: lantern
Tumblr media
8/10
"hey, wait, you only like objects that are huge and destructive" YES. YES I DO. AND THE LANTERN FUCKS. i love the outdoor fights that take place off the streets, like in parks or private homes, because they usually have some unique but non-shitty items (kitchen fight, i'm looking at you), and this stone lantern is one of those good friends that i forget i have until they show up and i'm like, yo! hey! you can tackle anyone in a couple of hits by swinging this beautiful ornament around, and it's really good for throwing. even if you're not playing in beast style i recommend at least picking this up and throwing it into one of the big thrower guys who guards bridge/hallway. the big throwers are weak, this thing can take them out in one smash. also why aren't you playing in beast style

rating every beast-style weaponizable object in yakuza: office chair
Tumblr media
7/10
the main perk of fighting inside an office landscape is the sheer density of office chairs. they're not nearly as strong as Knife or Hammer, they break apart easily, but then you can just grab another one, and if you're working your way down a row, then you can combo endlessly, picking up office chairs and smashing them, then picking up another one and smashing it, then picking up another one and smashing it, and then your heat bar is big enough to end it all.
sadly there isn't a dedicated index with pictures of all the objects in yakuza, so i had to use this picture of akiyama enjoying his chair.

rating every beast-style weapon in yakuza: gandhara sign
Tumblr media
7/10
this one suffers similar issues to all the signs in the game, which is that they look like they’d be pretty brutal, but don’t do much damage
however, I think the shop signs are a really cool, iconic part of the game’s landscape and it’s a great idea to make them interactive like this, and the gandhara sign is my favorite in terms of look, which is why i rated it so highly.

rating every beast-style weapon in yakuza: bench
Tumblr media
9/10
the bench is obviously a classic. it’s huge, it’s long, it’s powerful, and you can hit multiple guys with it. it also seems like one of the objects where they thought about how someone might actually grab it and throw it. in a game where a major mechanic is picking up items from around a city and using them as weapons, PLUS you have a level of superhuman strength, a public bench is a perfect object for combat mayhem and violent destruction.

rating every weaponizable object in yakuza: long lumber
Tumblr media
4/10
this might be a bit controversial, but because you can also buy long lumber as an inventory weapon at dragon & tiger, i have a hard time considering this a "weaponizable object". it's not an object that has been transformed into a weapon by kiryu's epic power-strength, it's just a weapon, and not a very good weapon. i'll let you guys in on a little secret: if there's no good weapons around, and you're fighting multiple dudes, the best and i mean best strategy, is to use one of the enemies as your weapon. grab him and throw him into the other guys. so part of my rating system is, would an enemy's limp body make a better weapon than this? in long lumber's case, yes, absofruitly.
the range is decent, though, which does give you an edge in solo encounters. otherwise we would've given this a 1

rating every beast-style weaponizable object in yakuza: pig
Tumblr media
2/10
i'm a silly guy, i like silly things, that's why i play yakuza in beast style, but we have to be honest with ourselves even when it's hard. this is a pig's head. it's not actually a pig. as such, it does no more damage than a milk crate. if this were a full swine, and we all know kiryu could pick up an entire pig one-handed, then maybe it would be a little more bodying. even with my radical-silly-acceptance, i dislike novelty for its own sake. even tchotchkes have a purpose. but this object is just there to be a pig's head. disappointing on many levels
