thinking about how q!Bad developed lima syndrome for his captive and Ron is slowly developing stockholm syndrome…

ough it’s so messed up I can’t even describe like. q!bad is so so screwed in the head he’s showering ron with gifts, treating them like a family member and close friend, building him a mansion- but it’s still a cage, and he’s NOT allowing him to leave. then ron saying he forgave q!bad for kidnapping him and is unsure if he even wants to leave…. it’s such a disturbing situation (and a really dark, compelling story I love watching how much worse it can get)

what happens if someone tries to rescue ron and he runs from the help, then q!bad goes full delusional about how they’re trying to take his family away again?

okay but i do need fred lovers to be fully aware that there's virtually no chance that he won't end up in q!bad's basement because the only reason we even *have* fred is because of q!bad's current plotline. through meta we know that ron's capture was cooking for the whole week he was going through the stages of grief.

it would make no sense to me that they'd incorporate higher level workers suddenly while worker-kidnapping is part of q!bad's personal lore + have ron blatantly call out blue hat workers as superiors if they weren't planning for fred to get got.

i adore that q!tubbo got there first and developed this personal connection with fred that's going to be very very interesting going forward but also my man's got a basement with his name on it, and did from the moment we met him.

so, i was rewatching the q!bad scene with ron lemons (affectionately named federation worker in his basement) and something really stood out to me again, which is the fact that up until today, q!bad hadn't gotten physical.

yes, he kidnapped ron and put him in his basement, but he at least tried to be humane: there was food, water, a bed and furniture, from q!bad's point of view, all he was asking for was information on the eggs.

yes, there was clearly psychological torture but there was a clear line that q!bad didn't want to cross — he didn't want to be physical.

throughout the whole thing, while q!bad is incredibly menacing and condescending and cold, he's practically begging this worker to give him something, anything at all. he doesn't want to escalate it further, he truly doesn't. he's begging for something because he doesn't want to cross that line.

and then, he scared ron enough that he gave him an inch. just a tidbit of a whisper of something... and that's the problem.

if he hadn't, i don't think q!bad would've escalated things today... but he's had him down there for a while and has only gotten "i don't know" while today, suddenly he gets a rumour followed by "i don't know anything else".

of course q!bad is going to lose his grip on himself — he's been asking for days, and suddenly out of the blue pops a lead. he has to push more, he has to push harder, he has to do what he didn't want to because what other information is this person hiding.

it was a brilliant scene, you clearly can see q!bad wrestling with himself the whole time, but it's so interesting to see the dots connect on why he does what he does and when he does it.

the entire conversation q!bad and q!cellbit had was fascinating, but i keep rotating one specific bit in my head: "you broke him that bad?" "yeah" "good"

now, we could argue that q!bad did a lot of deflection when it came to the ron topic yesterday and true, he did. but i don't think that specific line was a misdirect or a half-truth at all: i think it was the most direct and truthful statement he said in the whole conversation.

q!bad did break ron, perhaps not in the gruesome way it would be expected of him, but in the way that will give him long-time leverage and also a degree of leniency from the people around him who would be against the kidnapping. yes, he wants to alienate himself, but he left himself some wiggle room (and unbeknownst to him people love him enough to stand by him either way).

i think to ignore the fact that q!bad while weakened and going through a lot is still a strategist playing a thousand games of 4d chess is really setting ourselves up for failure -- he knows what he did. he knows he broke ron, it doesn't matter whether he cares for him or not, he knew what he was doing and he did it well... honestly, his problem is that he did it too well.

idk i think that while q!bad is king of deflection and repression, he's there enough to understand what he did, and in my opinion to have a pretty solid reason as to why he took the turn with ron that he did. and he broke him, by god did he break him.
