There's just something 'real' about this scene, that just hits the feels. How sometimes different situations in your life or work, mean that you're alone. Or how sometimes you simply just want to be alone like Smile. Or that you think you are alone, like Wenge, but your actually not. And then there's Yurie, who's hopes and wishes were that she wasn't alone on Christmas Eve.
Not gonna lie, these two were neck and neck until like the last half hour of the poll. And I was kind of hoping they would stay tied to the end so I could have an excuse to watch both of them.
Then I remembered, “Wait a second, this is my blog, I can do whatever the hell I want!”
So, yeah, we’re watching both of these. Because I’ve heard great things about them- like, really great things- and after the past two disappointments, I could really use some guaranteed Good Shit to wash the taste out. I can’t imagine too many people will complain.
Good? Good. I’ll start with Ping Pong since it’s in the lead, and I’ll watch Yona next before moving on to 2015. Look forward to it!

What makes ppta good is that it's so original. The audience is meant to think the story will go like a traditional bildungsroman about a single man taking on hardship just to improve himself, but then it defies those expectations so warmly and lovingly and that's what makes it so one-of-a-kind. It saw what genre it was working with and forced its own soul through the crevices, adapting itself *perfectly* to its mold. It's not a story with an educational message. It's imo a very raw unloading of very personal thoughts on strength and hope and regret, made subtle and nuanced and non-obfuscating and open-armed
if *i* was seeding those brackets, id pit ttg vs ppta as yuasa anime and then tutu vs haibane instead. gamkutsuou vs lotgh since theyre space operas. then id put the ikuhara works against each other and the shaft works against each other. it just makes sense. but no. its unfair. poorly constructed. hmph.
