what is up w all the weird sculptures at byrgenwerth. these things are EVERYWHERE. in my mind it presents two possibilities:

1. they were petrifying students on a very regular basis given there’s dozens of these

2. byrgenwerth had an arts department, and it went about as well as you’d expect

little thing i’ve noticed on my second playthrough — hemwick was actually directly connected to cainhurst at some point!

the destroyed bridge shown above is probably the other end of the one you arrive in cainhurst.

you can even see the castle itself in the distance! (don’t mind the rifle spear). it probably makes sense since the station the carriage arrives at is there, but i still think it’s neat! maybe gives some interesting context to hemwick…

Hemwick being connected to Cainhurst is an old fandom theory at this point, but what sells it is the broken bridge and the cut content Cainhurst rider that appeared on what was probably that bridge. There were other hints too but I can’t remember what they all were. Hemwick was probably a province of Cainhurst if anything.

yeah i'm sure ur right!!! my bloodborne liveblog tag is definitely not novel observations, it's just things i've noticed and found cool! i tried to go in relatively spoiler-free my first playthrough so there's a lot i think i missed.

some other little observations about hemwick - i think it was probably, at least originally, yharnam's biggest hub for trade? it's positioned on the coast, and it's also barely a stone's throw from the cathedral ward. what really sells it for me though is the architecture! we see these large silos that were probably once used to store trade goods and stables full of (dead) horses. now all of it is just full of corpses, surprise surprise. regardless though, i would have been fascinated to see hemwick before the scourge. my personal thought is that this is where yharnam did most of its farming, but over time it seems they replaced what once was farmland with mass gravesites, and repurposed the farming equipment for weapons. it's also neat that this is the place we find the highest number of those armored executioner fellows. i do wonder if they're remnants of the force that attacked cainhurst... anyways, these are all just comments from the top of my head! it's quite possible it was a province, but we'll never know for sure :)
