Jonathan Lacey Whipple
Jonathan Lacey Whipple, 37, son of Karen and the late John Whipple, passed peacefully at his home in St. Petersburg, Florida on March 16, 2023. He was born on April 1, 1985 in Leesburg, VA. Formerly a resident of Swoyersville and a 2003 graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School, Jon had an inquisitive mind and developed many passions in life. From a young age he nurtured a love of sciences, developing a keen interest in astronomy and atmospheric weather phenomenon, and a profound respect for history. Following the path of his interest in the past, Jon became an enthusiastic member of the Civil Air Patrol and developed an avid interest in World War II history and memorabilia. One of his favorite pastimes was listening to stories of the war from his grandfathers and a neighbor who served in the Army in Korea.
However, his first true love was music. Jon was known to most for his passionate exploration of all things relating to music. He loved all forms and styles from Jazz to Ska, Classical to Motown, Oldies to Punk, and introduced everyone who knew him to a style they would have never experienced without him. He was one of those rare individuals who could pick up any instrument and, in a short time, be able to play them; and play them he did – saxophone, baritone saxophone, trombone, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, piano, and organ. As he became proficient in instruments, he also branched out into composing and audio engineering, a pastime that remained a constant in his life.
After graduation, Jon became interested in the culinary arts. As with his other interests, he gave it his all. He worked in several local restaurants as a sous chef, honing his skills, but when the opportunity arose, he moved to Florida to attend the International Academy of Design and Technology which he graduated from in 2011 with a degree in Music Production. He refurbished a 1985 Volkswagen “hippie van,” and set off to establish his new life in the south with his constant companion of 17-years, Nola, a Carolina dog. He spent his recent years traveling and hiking with Nola and friends sharing his dedication and passion with a new community.
Although his time with us was not long enough, Jon’s greatest legacy lies in the way he made people feel. He was a man who loved to learn, and found joy in sharing that knowledge with others, and people often found themselves better off for having known him. His friendships were legendary, with many remaining rock-solid for over 25 years. His big heart made him the most fun person to be with in any room and he will be missed by all those friends and family who were lucky enough to have known him.
Jon loved many people in his life and will be sorely missed by all: his mother Karen, sisters Samantha Whipple and Genel Whipple Depuysselier, her husband Pete and children Dillion, Denise, Ryan, Mary, and Zack; partner Erin Peterson; daughter Chrystine Locascio, and son Julian Whipple. He is wished a peaceful rest by his aunts, uncles, and cousins: Tom and Pauline Whipple; Sue and Ken Hopkins, Josh and Kerie Hopkins and their children Dean and Eliza; Sarah Hopkins; Alan Shiplett and his son Alan Shiplett Jr; Bruce Shiplett; Tim and Tracey Shiplett and their children Emily, Lauren, and Matthew; Jennifer and Eric Murphy and their children Mia and Collin, Jake Honoosic. Jon now joins his father John Whipple, paternal grandparents Lester and Genevieve Whipple, maternal grandparents Herman and Joyce Shiplett, Uncle Steve Shiplett, and his beloved Nola. Rest in Peace, gentle soul – your journey is complete.
Family and friends are invited on Saturday, April 15th from 12:30 to 2 PM at Church of Christ Uniting, 190 S. Sprague Ave., Kingston, PA 18704. Memorial service will start at 2 PM, with Rev. Jane Pykus, officiating. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hugh B. Hughes & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, Forty Fort.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to SavetheMusic.org, SavingCarolinaDogs.com, RailstoTrails.org, or a charity of your choice.

Catalyst's #BiasCorrect wants to put an end to bias against women
Catalyst Inc. is a global non-profit organization that works with some of the world's elite and most influential CEOs and foremost companies to aid the transformation of workplaces to places that work for women. Their mission is to “accelerate progress for women through workplace inclusion.” And what better way to carry their noble mission ahead than by launching a Catalyst #BiasCorrect plug-in on International Women’s Day that corrects unconscious bias in workplaces.
Catalyst partnered with Burns Group agency to design a Slack plug-in that assists in weeding out unconscious bias words that take up everyday conversations intentionally or unintentionally. More often than not, the tendency to use words like pushy, bitchy, and aggressive while describing a woman has become a habit. What’s more alarming is that the users of such words don’t even know that they have this habit and how it is detrimental to the equality and gender-neutral ethics in workplaces. #BiasCorrect plug-in points out to the user when he types such negative bias words and recommends him or her more professional, positive, and gender-neutral words like ‘passionate’ instead of emotional and ‘assertive’ instead of aggressive.
We believe that this app will certainly do the needful to allay inequality in workplaces by helping people to choose sensible words. After all, words are strongly influential.
You will see powerful faces supporting this campaign like Hillary Clinton, Mita Mallick of Unilever who is the Head of Diversity there, and Tawana Murphy Bennett who is Facebook’s Global Lead.

AUTUMN | SUNDAY, 10:29 - LANDGRAAB MEDICAL CENTRE
The final stop after Del Sol. Fred leaped off the metro once the doors slid open wide enough for him to squeeze through, and sprinted towards the hospital where Matias Delgato was admitted.
When he stepped inside the lobby, he found himself face-to-face with Aria Flex, his neighbour and reporter for the Brindleton Bugle.
ARIA: Fred? Fred! Wait up! [blocks his way] Why are you here? I thought you were at San My.
FRED: [crossing his arms] Excu - what?
ARIA: You don't know? Matias Delgato said Rohil Datta was the one who hired him to kill your mother and Alexander Goth. The press teams moved to Manipal* and that's where I'm - was headed. So, what's going through your mind right now?
Stunned by this turn of events, Fred was lost for words.
*Manipal Hospital, San Myshuno
FRED: (Something's wrong and I can't put my finger on it...) When was this?
ARIA: About 30 minutes ago. More or less.
Sensing she had let her guard down as she scribbled on her notepad, he side-stepped her swiftly.
FRED: Alright. Thanks. See you later.
ARIA: But - wait! Fred! What are your -
He ignored her and lengthened his strides so that she wouldn't be able to keep up with him.
10:33 - OUTSIDE ROOM 311
ARTEMIS: You can't book him and I am not leaving until I have a word with him!
BEATRIX: [hushed] Get a grip, this is a hospital!
PAULINE: It appears you have forgotten your place. Let me remind you, madam, that you retired a few days ago. You're just a civilian. There's nothing you can do.
FRED: Colonel?

The news segment on Rohil Datta concluded and Artemis sank back into her chair, resigned.
ARTEMIS: Damn it! I knew this would happen.
FRED: [stunned, slowly recovering] That was fast. Not even an hour...
ARTEMIS: Because this was planned all along! A non-Landgraab hospital, under the scrutiny of the media?
FRED: It's watertight.
ARTEMIS: No, Fred. They're trying to throw us off. But we're beyond that now.
FRED: That's... good for us, right? I don't think we'll get to see Delgato today. Even if we do, he - he's not gonna talk, not to us.
ARTEMIS: It's a stretch, but Barb will work us in. Somehow. [taps the table] Now, the list. Quickly.
FRED: [exhale] Okay. Wait, why are we doing this when we can go straight to the Landgraabs?
ARTEMIS: Because we're building a case. [hooks thumb at screen] You said that was watertight? Then we have to be better.

Layne gazed out the window overlooking the Spice District, when an idea entered his mind.
An idea to get rid of Jane Linde.
A lazy smile spread across his face.
LAYNE: (That's it. Why didn't I think of it before?)
He whipped out his phone and made another call.
LAYNE: Auntie. It's me. I thought of something.
11:22 - OASIS SPRINGS
PAULINE: Cement? How are you - manually?... Alright. I leave it to you. Take care.
BARBARA: - Colonel?
Startled, Pauline's eyes snapped to the source of the voice over her shoulder.
PAULINE: (How long has she been standing here?)
BARBARA: Making renovations?
PAULINE: Uhm, repairs. Hole in my garden wall... [shrug] Figured we could patch it up ourselves. Me and my son.
BARBARA: It's not that steep, I know a guy -
PAULINE: - I have it under control, thank you.
11:26 - SAN MYSHUNO
His plan set into motion, it was time to get help. Layne went back into his apartment to inform Nash, his younger brother about the agenda.
LAYNE: You have plans tonight?
NASH: Nope. Are you worried about the growfruit? We should have another harvest tomorrow.
LAYNE: It's not the growfruit. It's the girl. I need your help.
NASH: Okay, okay. So tonight. Where?
LAYNE: [looking out the window] The docks.

SUMMER | SATURDAY, 19:47 - CLUB CALICO, BRINDLETON BAY
As the trio walked towards the pavilion, they caught the eye of Pauline Whipple.
PAULINE: (Well, well... this is interesting.)
Inside the pavilion, two members of Cut & Shuffle were deep in conversation.
JOHN KIM-LEWIS: -... like, what are the police even doing?!
SANUTHI JAYASINGHE: [hand on heart] And I think Devin once said that the first 72 hours are the most important. Watcher, I pray that child will be found. And for Scott's health.
JAMIE: Sanu, John. Meet Blythe and Lorenzo. Have a great evening!
Jamie turned on their heels to leave when Sanuthi's voice pierced the air.
SANUTHI: - Not so fast! We're one member short tonight. And it's been ages since you played with us - you're the founder, for Watcher's sake.
JAMIE: You mean Scott? His daughter's still missing?
SANUTHI: Mm hmm. And - [gestures to the other table] - two tables to fill.
JAMIE: Why not just one? Shu can sit out.
SANUTHI: We had a new member last week, Rudy. His car's already here.
JAMIE: Well... Okay then. But I can't stay for long.
Just then, two women entered the pavilion.
JAMIE: Shu!
NUR SYUHADA: Hi everyone! This is my eldest, Zahirah. Ooh, new faces!
JAMIE: Blythe, Lorenzo, meet Syuhada. She's the club leader.
NUR SYUHADA: Welcome! I hope you all have a good time this evening. Sanu, please be nice to them.
SANUTHI: What do you mean?! Of course, I'm a nice person!
JOHN: Nice... and competitive.
SANUTHI: Excuse me?! [slaps John's shoulder playfully]
NUR SYUHADA: [low voice] Why not stay and play a few rounds?
ZAHIRAH: Mak, I... have something to do.
NUR SYUHADA: Nonsense, it's a Saturday night! Plus, no money at my table.
ZAHIRAH: [resigned]... I guess.
The last member finally arrived.
SANUTHI: Rudy! What kept you? I saw your car parked up there an hour ago!
RUDY: Howdy. I went to the Paws for a bit. Then the Mayor sat on my lap and then - sigh, you know you can't move when a cat's sleeping on ya!
They laughed.
NUR SYUHADA: Rudy, this is Jamie the club founder, Blythe and Lorenzo. Jamie, Rudy just joined us last week.
RUDY: Nice meeting you all.
As their banter dwindled, they settled down and started playing.
SANUTHI: You newbies ready for this?
BLYTHE: Who are you calling a "newbie"?

SUMMER | SATURDAY, 19:24 - CLUB CALICO, BRINDLETON BAY
Lorenzo hunted for a parking spot close to Club Calico, but unfortunately all the bays closest to the lounge were taken. He steered the car up a slope to a wider parking area, and reversed into an empty spot.
BLYTHE: Really, the way young people drive these days...
LORENZO: We don't know for sure if the driver is young, Blythe. Could be someone our age, but with bad eyesight? Or someone in a hurry.
BLYTHE: Or they just have no sense of civic consciousness. I hate that.
Lorenzo killed the engine and they both climbed out of the car.
As they walked towards the lounge, Blythe glared at the convertible that took up two parking bays.
BLYTHE: [under her breath] Fucker.
Lorenzo smirked at Blythe's slip. No matter how much she had tried to cultivate a new persona for decades, she could never rid herself completely of her old self.
They reached the perimeter of the lounge, where Jamie greeted them with enthusiasm.
JAMIE: Hi! I'm so glad you could make it. [to Blythe] I'm Jamie, by the way. Nice to meet you.
BLYTHE: Hello.
LORENZO: So, er - are we too early?
JAMIE: No! Not at all. Two are already here, the rest are on their way.
They wended their way along the corridor that encircled the lounge towards a pavilion in the back.
Little did they know that Pauline Whipple was also there, waiting for her drink at the bar next to the corridor.

TIFFANI BEHR: Fred, the colonel and I called you here to tell you something.
TIFFANI: After evaluating your performance, we’ve decided to promote you from corporal to detective.
FRED: ... Thank you.
PAULINE: You’d better buck up. Being a detective isn’t anything like what you’ve been doing.
TIFFANI: I’ve assigned Sergeant Lovisa Bjergsen to be your mentor. You’ll be sitting in the desk across from her.
PAULINE: Over here, Lovisa. This is Fred, who you’ll be mentoring from today.
LOVISA BJERGSEN: If we’re going to work together, keep up or stay out of my way.
FRED: Yes, sarge.

Meanwhile, in Windenburg after the detectives had finished their shift, Chief Behr and Colonel Whipple stayed behind in the office.
CHIEF BEHR: Pauline, what’s your opinion on Fred so far?
COLONEL WHIPPLE: I think he’s okay. Just about average. Why do you ask?
CHIEF BEHR: Average, really? He’s been working overtime since he joined. Except today.
COLONEL WHIPPLE: I don’t know what you’re getting at.
CHIEF BEHR: It’s time he got promoted to detective, don’t you think?
COLONEL WHIPPLE: Argh... Look, I know he’s a good worker. But good workers don’t necessarily make good detectives. What makes you think he’s proven himself to be prepared for that role?
CHIEF BEHR: Okay, you have a point there. How about we put him under Lovisa? She could mentor him.
COLONEL WHIPPLE: Do you really want to put such a burden on our best detective? He’s just going to slow her down!
CHIEF BEHR: Sigh... do you have a better suggestion, then? We’re short on two detectives, cases are piling up. Or how about Quentin?
COLONEL WHIPPLE: I have a feeling that Quentin will work well under Spencer. But I’m not sold on Fred.

SUMMER | MONDAY, EVENING
After she found Aurora, Audrey comforted her over her loss and offered her some relationship advice.
Then Artemis and Lorenzo warned Aurora about Hayden’s deteriorating health, and asked her to settle down quickly.
Meanwhile in the next room, Adam Andrews aged up to a toddler.
Hayden confronted Bailey in the study, and in the heat of the moment, ordered his son to leave the Cyanide Residence.
TUESDAY
The argument between father and son came to a head and Hayden reminded Bailey of the Reapers’ ability to summon spirits. But the situation became too much for Hayden to handle. He died on the spot of heart failure on Tuesday 4:11am.
After her cousin’s death, Artemis vowed to spend the rest of her days working on unfinished business - re-investigating the mysterious death of her father, Alexander Goth.
Later that morning, Fred discreetly re-investigated the death of his mother, Natalie Faust, and found that the evidence had been tampered with.
Meanwhile, Bailey confessed to his mother that Hayden had kicked him out of the Cyanide Residence before he died. Blythe told him to keep it a secret from the rest of the family.
Aurora found a vacancy for Audrey, who was thrilled at the prospect of pursuing her dream to be a writer - and also an opportunity to get out of the mansion regularly.
After she’d caught Fred snooping around, Chief Tiffani Behr proposed to promote Fred, but Colonel Pauline Whipple was reluctant to agree.
Aurora visited Catscratch Cottage to apologise to Jamie, who also apologised for their own behaviour.
Anxious over the possibility that the Reapers may summon his father’s spirit and discover that he has been kicked out, Bailey drowned his sorrows at the Salty Paws Saloon.
Late Tuesday night, Fred broke into the Acme office and retrieved the hard drive belonging to Rohil Datta, who was alleged to have misappropriated funds from the company that employed Natalie Faust.
He took the hard drive home and found an anonymous email addressed to Rohil, which contained a copy of Natalie Faust’s original email to Alexander Goth. Rohil knew that there was a whistleblower in Acme, but not the identity of the whistleblower, which the anonymous sender did.
WEDNESDAY
Unable to sleep, Artemis recalled the time when she summoned her father’s spirit.
As it was not Spooky Day, Alexander Goth’s spirit could not stay for long. But he also had no clues or leads to offer.
Artemis went to Brindleton Bay PD one last time to deliver her resignation speech.
In the basement floor of the same building, Audrey turned up at the Brindleton Bay Bugle for her interview with Everly Ranches, the editor.
After running an errand, Fred visited Alexander Goth’s desk to find Artemis seated. He offered to help her with investigating her father’s desk by bringing up deleted files from the computer hard disk. They agreed to work together, but Artemis would keep Alexander Goth’s hard disk.
Meanwhile, Rohil received a tip-off that his former office had been broken into, and that his hard drive had been removed. He called on the anonymous sender of the email to retrieve his hard drive from Fred by any means necessary.
Fred received a promotion to the rank of detective, but his mentor would be Lovisa Bjergsen, an illustrious sergeant with a thorny personality.
Later that day, Fred received a phone call out of the blue from an old acquaintance, Vernon Landgraab. He tried to back out of meeting Vernon that evening, but eventually gave into his guilt.
He thought of his childhood with Vernon, and hoped that from their meeting that evening Vernon would explain why he stopped keeping in touch.
Aurora and Jamie went window-shopping in Magnolia Promenade, where they also discussed plans to have a baby together.
At the Solar Flare lounge, Fred found Vernon with his girlfriend, Heaven Patel.
After hearing Vernon’s side of the story, Fred received a phone call from an enraged Artemis, who is disappointed by Fred’s apparent lack of commitment to their investigation.
Unbeknownst to Artemis, she was being watched by someone behind her back.
His mood turned sour after he was berated by Artemis. A highschooler named Jane Linde tried to flirt with him, and he turned her advances down.
As he was about to leave the lounge, Fred passed out.
THURSDAY
Bailey attended his final interview for the position of Project Manager at InfoSims. He was greeted by several key personnel, notably Phavithra Datta, sister to Rohil Datta; and Krishna Patel, father to Heaven Patel.
With an important team sports event later that day on her mind, Jane took a bite of growfruit, which is an illicit harvestable that raises testosterone and adrenaline levels, and the production of nitric oxide in the sim body. However, many sims take growfruit to increase their athleticism and productivity.
A scene between Rohil and his niece, Dharshini Datta (the daughter of Phavithra Datta and Ella Bjergsen) revealed that the Dattas are related to the Reapers - Lorenzo Capricciosa is Dharshini’s uncle.
After she broke down in tears, Blythe was comforted by Artemis Reaper. Blythe expressed her desire to retire and hoped to see Hayden again on Spooky Day.
Fred woke up in Oasis Springs in a daze. His pockets had been searched.
He returned to his home to find that it had been broken into. He lives with his cousin Franziska Faust and her husband, Ken Yamaguchi, and their three children: Julia, Jannik and Jana.
Artemis received a phone call from Fred, who told her what happened to him. She is certain that they are in danger and commanded him to work on Alexander Goth’s hard disk as soon as possible in the Cyanide Residence.
After the phone call, she returned to the nursery suite. Blythe told Artemis that she has retired, freeing up her own time to watch over Adam instead.
At the Brindleton Bay Bugle, Audrey was lightly teased by her colleagues and the editor-in-chief, Everly Ranches, supported the idea of an office party at the Salty Paws Saloon.
Fred arrived at the Cyanide Residence and started working on Alexander Goth’s hard drive in Artemis’s bedroom. As the hard drive was very old, Fred would have to spend more time than usual to access its contents.
Once Bailey returned from his job interview, Patchy the Scarecrow revealed the secrets of his power to him. The Reapers can summon the dead, whereas Patchy’s descendants can extend life. However, there are severe limitations on their powers to maintain the balance of life and death. As custodian of the secret to this power, no other sim can speak of it except Patchy alone.
