thinking about shadow and his "relatives". Esp Sage. Its crazy to me how similar they are: Black and Red, artificial life form, trying (or tried) really hard to live up to their expectations, daddy issues, accompanied super sonic into space to fight a moon-like object, died, came back. Like?? If shadow met sage would he see himself in her??

As for shadow and belle, they are also similar in terms of daddy issues. This is kinda hc territory but how fucked up is it that Gerald called shadow his son and then fucked up his memory to try and get him to kill everyone and ruined the last memory he had of his sister? He definitely was trying every day to make gerald proud with how much of a perfectionist he is. And then Gerald ruined him. Treated him like he was just an object, a tool to carry out his will. Belle had like a whole subplot dedicated to her realizing that her dad (Mr. Tinker) and Eggman were not the same (Their actions, their mannerisms, their treatment of her). Did shadow do the same? Seeing the Gerald from the ark logs before the raid, posing for a family picture, receiving any crumb of fatherly approval. And then being forced to watch how his voice was filled with hatred and realizing that his vengeance was not his own, that the man who gave him a soul to keep him from being a weapon, ripped it away and replaced it with his own desires. Do they ever both think, "That is Not the man I called Father."
