Review: Smosh Games: Board AF, "Outbreak: Undead"
Embarrassingly, I was once a fan of Smosh – back when it was a bit cringey (post Pokémon Lip Sync, during the height of the Food Battle videos). But I am not ashamed to admit that from the moment it came into being, I was subscribed to Smosh Games. While their other series like Game Bang, Grand Theft Smosh, and What’re Those!? were certainly ones I kept up with, my favorite has always been Board…

endless au edits: the battle of the bands au nobody asked for pt 6
what's next for smosh? that's the question on everyone's mind, isn't it? where do we go from here? after dropping a new album with little to no warning, fans are left wondering what the future looks like for the band. not to worry - the duo released a full statement on smosh's official twitter and instagram laying out their plans for the future. we've done our best to summarize it for you here, but if you're curious, be sure to watch the official video¹! 1. battle of the bands: hecox and padilla are returning to their roots - the annual la battle of the bands. though they've never won, smosh competed in the battle of the bands many times in their heyday. they're back, and this time, they're in it to win it. "i think we've got a leg up on... the kids, you know?" hecox said. "we've been around the block before. and we're ready to make a comeback and kick it off with that trophy." 2. new music: the boys also outlined their new music. they teased a new album in the upcoming year, as well as a new single to be released after the battle of the bands is over. they acknowledged both the criticism and praise of their new album, and agreed that they don't sound like they used to - and that they probably never will. "we're gonna sound different," padilla said. "we're exploring new genres, and that's okay. it's still us. nothing you hear is gonna be like, 'oh, that sounds like an ian hecox song' or 'oh, that sounds like an anthony padilla song.' no, this is - this is is entirely us. we're in this together." much like their grassroots days (pre-management from now-defunct record label defy media², during which their songs were written for them), both hecox and padilla will be writing lyrics and music on their new songs. they explained that their new album was entirely their own and that they both worked together on each song, except for 'the sun,' penned entirely by padilla, and 'burn it to the ground,' written by hecox. 3. a tour: that's right! smosh is going on a long-awaited, much-anticipated reunion tour. "it'll be just like the old days," hecox said. padilla continued, adding, "the whole band is back, too. mari [takahashi, former guitarist], lasercorn [david moss, former drummer], [matthew] sohinki [former keyboardist], and joven [joshua ovenshire, former secondary guitarist] will all be back with us for the tour. it's been really exciting to work with them - like a family reunion." mari takahashi also provided the guitar accompaniment for their latest album. she and the rest of the band have been touring on their own, calling themselves oh gee so gee³, but, according to hecox, were "more than happy" to accompany smosh in their bright new future. after a six-year break, things are finally looking up for smosh fans. from releasing their first single out of the blue to now being announced as the sixth and final contestant in the biggest musical competition in the country, the band is coming back with a bang. if you're looking to see them in action, be sure to tune into the televised battle of the bands - featuring smosh, the chosen, ftc, kolivition, coventry, and let's do this. and don't worry too much on the boys' behalf - because, if their reunion proves anything, it's that friendship always wins.

Hey so I've had this in my drafts for well over a month, then that recent smosh mouth came out, rendering this near useless, but I'm still gonna post it cause why not.
Beginner's Guide to Smosh Seasonal Games
(For newer fans, even though no one asked. And yes I'm manifesting summer/winter games 2024, look away.) Mostly sourced from the Smosh Wiki.
1- Smosh Summer Games! (2015)
Tumblr media
1st trailer aired: June 27, 2015 ~ Finale: July 31, 2015 This was the OG that started it all! No theme, unless you count it being entirely held at a beach house. Very classic smosh vibes, inappropriate jokes, and queerbaiting galore, with 12 episodes total across Pit (2nd channel at the time) and Games. (tbh I haven't seen this one). This was held shortly after the 'main squad' was cast (Keith, N*ah, Olivia, and Courtney), and was Shayne's official introduction to the channel! Teams/Cast: Bananarama: Anthony (Captain), Lasercorn (David Moss), Courtney, N*ah, Mari Takahashi, Jovenshire (Joshua Evan Ovenshire). Jiggle Physics: Ian (Captain), W*s J*hns*n, Sohinki (Matt Sohinki), Flitz (Amra Ricketts). Keith, Olivia. Refs/Hosts: Shayne, Joe Beretta Winners: Bananarama Special Awards: MVP - N*ah, LVP - Lasercorn, Biggest Fail - Olivia.
2- Smosh Winter Games! (2016)
Tumblr media
1st trailer aired: Jan 30, 2016 ~ Final Ep: Feb 29, 2016 The first Winter Games! Similar classic vibes to the first, except by this time the 'main squad' was much more settled in and comfortable with each other, and the overall cast. Strangely, Ian and Anthony didn't actually participate in the games, but commentated (not sure why). Combo of actual competition eps and also videos for other shows aka specials (s-s-s-sleepover, put it in my mouth) that were winter games themed. 23 videos total across 2nd Channel (Pit) and Games. Teams/Cast: Snow Fleeks: Anthony (captain), Mari, W*s, Sohinki, Keith, Olivia, refs. Blue Balls: Ian (captain), Lasercorn, Shayne, Courtney, Flitz, N*ah, Jovenshire. Refs/Hosts: M*tt R**b, Joe Beretta, Sunny Peabody. Winners: Blue Balls Special Awards: MVP- Olivia, LVP- Joven, Epic Moment- Lasercorn, Biggest Fail- W*s. (Lasercorn got Epic Moment for dropping an actual fire rap during the *wrap* battle)
3- Smosh Summer Games: Camp (2016)
Tumblr media
1st trailer aired: June 25, 2016 ~ Final Ep: July 30, 2016 The first one to have a theme, extremely iconic, the vibes were starting to peak around this time with the main squad being almost fully settled in by this point. For those of you who do not know, back in the day Smosh had separate casts for main/pit and for games, and the seasonal games were one of the only series where they would consistently appear together, and were originally intended to be a bonding activity. This one was the first to really let those dynamics *shine*, and really have them interact in memorable ways. Also best challenges up until this point cause of the theme. 13 specials and 9 competition episodes across games and 2nd channel, this time accompanied by a few vlogs on Courtney's personal channel. Teams/Cast: Kumbayaaas: Anthony (captain), Jovenshire, N*ah, Olivia, W*s, Courtney, Sohinki Harshmallows: Ian (captain), Mari, Keith, Shayne, Lasercorn, Flitz, refs Refs/Camp Counselors: M*tt R**b, Joe Beretta, Sunny Peabody. Winners: Harshmallows Special Awards: MVP- Olivia, LVP- Sohinki, Epic moment- Ian, Biggest Fail- W*s (Sohinki had to leave early due to sickness and so automatically got LVP)
4- Smosh Winter Games: Again! (2017)
Tumblr media
1st trailer aired: Jan 31, 2017 - Final Ep: Feb 28, 2017 Longest seasonal games by far, lot of iconic moments and fun specials, featured CFM's 2nd ever appearance, and was also Boze's debut as a games member! Not much else to say about this one, it's a blast with a lot of classic moments. Oh, and it was the last seasonal games to feature both Ian and Anthony as team captains :,). 19 specials (Game Bang, Board af, hot tub truth or dare, etc.) and 8 competition episodes across pit and games. Teams/Cast: Spaghetti Yetis: Anthony (captain), Boze, Sohinki, Lasercorn, Olivia, Flitz, Shayne Dablizzards: Ian (captain), Keith, W*s, Mari, N*ah, Courtney, Jovenshire Refs/Hosts: M*tt R**b, Joe Beretta, Sunny Peabody, Sarah Whittle, Tanner Risner. Winners: Spaghetti Yetis Special Awards: MVP - Anthony, LVP - Jovenshire, Epic Moment - Shayne, Biggest Fail - Boze
5- Smosh Summer Games: Wild West! (2017)
Tumblr media
Trailer aired: June 26, 2017 - Final ep: July 31, 2017 WWIIIILLLLDDDD HWEST! Let me tell yall this one is ICONIC, for so many reasons, in so many ways. Filmed on an awesome location (a ranch in Nevada), great teams, the production quality was top-notch, and let's not forget the infamous bar-brawl fight choreography of the trailer. So many iconic moments its astounding. Damien's first seasonal games, and also the first to neither feature Anthony nor have team captains (instead of picking teams dodgeball style like they had done previously, this time the teams were picked via a lottery). 15 specials (maricraft, board af, etc.), and 8 competition episodes across pit and games. Fun fact, this season was filmed a week before the "Anthony is leaving smosh" video was released. Teams/Cast: Randy Bandits: Lasercorn, N*ah, Olivia, Damien, Mari, Ian, Flitz Cowbaes: Jovenshire, Courtney, Shayne, Keith, W*s, Sohinki, Boze Refs/Sheriffs: M*tt R**b, Joe Beretta, Sunny Peabody Winners: Randy Bandits Special Awards: MVP - Flitz, LVP - W*s, Epic Moment - Shayne, Biggest Fail - Jovenshire Shayne told his Epic Moment story on the pod, but incase you missed it: during a hangman competition he managed to guess a 2-word answer, with no letters on the board, on his first try. The answer was Wyatt Earp. Some out of context references: "MUNGE", "My name is Calamity Janet, and I am crazy.", "Sorry"×20, *wide shot of damien holding up his fist for like 3 minutes*, *Mama bird*, *shot in the chest* "Where's Anthony?"
6- Smosh Summer Games: We Blew It! (2018)
Tumblr media
Trailer aired: August 17, 2018 - Final ep: August 24, 2018 Folks, what can I say, they blew it. They had 10 dollars and a dream for this one, and they tried their best, but it is admittedly still the weakest of the Summer Games. Between airing later than any other, taking place within only a week as opposed to a month, having the least amount of competitions (5) and the least amount of specials (1 Smosh and Order), this one really is a last-ditch effort sort of ordeal. But make no mistake, it's no one's fault but Defy Fuckhead Media Inc.; in case you missed the Smosh mouth ep, the story goes that Defy simply didn't want summer games to happen that year, and gave M*tt R**b an eighth of the usual budget. Despite all this, I'm sure if you go back and watch it, the videos are actually really enjoyable with some fun goofs and special moments. The first games to not feature Sohinki or Flitz, and this time there were team captains, chosen according to the personal awards given the prior year. Teams/Cast: Inflatabulls: Jovenshire (Captain, previous winner of Biggest Fail), Mari, Damien, Courtney, Keith, Boze Balloonatics: Shayne (Captain, previous winner of Most Epic Moment), Lasercorn, N*ah, Ian, W*s, Olivia Refs: M*tt R**b, Sarah Whittle Guest Refs/Guest Judges:  Garrett Palm, Joe Bereta, Spencer Agnew, Tanner Risner and Tim Baker Winners: Balloonatics Special Awards: MVP - Mari, LVP - Damien, Epic Moment/Biggest Win - Lasercorn, Biggest Fail - W*s
7- Smosh Summer Games: Apocalypse! (2019)
Tumblr media
Trailer aired: July 15, 2019 - Final ep: August 16, 2019 APPOOOCALYPSSE!! This one ROCKS! Not quite as iconic as Wild West, but it's honestly up there in my opinion. The first and only summer games post-mythical, and a return to normalcy from We Blew It in terms of length, airing schedule, etc., probably because they'd managed to find a sponsor to help with the budget. This one had some greeaat specials, including Spelling Bee-kini Wax, Maricraft, Try Not To Laugh: Gauntlet (so many iconic bits from these tntls, and if I'm not mistaken one of Tommy's earliest appearances), and a lot of Smoshcast. Fun fact, Sohinki was actually invited to participate but was in Italy at the time, so Kimmy was cast as a guest participant instead to even out the teams. The first to have no team selection process or opening ceremony, instead the teams were pre-picked at random and revealed during the trailer. 18 specials and 8 competition episodes across Pit, Games, and Smoshcast. Teams/Cast: ToxiciTea: Jovenshire, Ian, Olivia, Mari, Shayne, W*s Mushroom Clout: N*ah, Lasercorn, Damien, Keith, Courtney, Kimmy Refs: M*tt R**b, Sarah Whittle Guest Refs/Guest Judges:  Joe Bereta Winners: ToxiciTea Special Awards: MVP - Joven, LVP - Shayne, Epic Win/Moment - Courtney, Epic Fail - Ian Fun little end note, Lasercorn, up until this point, had never lost a single season, and had been described for a while as having a 'Winning Streak'. That became a big running gag this season in particular, with Lasercorn describing his team as being 'Blessed by the power of the streak', while ToxiciTea claimed that was the year the streak would be broken. In the end, it was. On Twitter and other socials, the hashtags "#Breakthestreak" and "#Thestreakisreal" were used by the fandom to support either team. Overall super fun season with a lot of fandom involvement.
This took me way too long. Enjoy!

Dancer
Word Count: 1056
REQUEST:  Can I request a Damien x reader where she's a dancer and somehow loses the just dance competition and everybody teases her saying she did on purpose just so she could do the romantic duet with Damien, which they do, it's very cute and the fans go cRAZY OVER IT? - anon
Tumblr media
You laughed to a joke Courtney had told you, the directions for the start of this live stream being to, “Act natural.” Going as natural as you could get, you had struck up a conversation with Courtney while half laying across Damien’s lap and the rest over Shayne’s. You faked a caught-in-the-headlights look as Joven fake scolded you and informed you that they were live. You sat up and quickly fixed your hair before clasping your hands together and then opening them wide.
“Hello! And welcome to another Just Dance video!”
Everyone around you broke out in cheers, Shayne turning his body only slightly towards you before letting out a horrific scream. You shoved a pillow in his face and he let himself be pushed off the couch by you.
“So, you know the game and you know the rules. We have two v two until we get to the two losers at the end who have to do a romantic dance together at the end,” you wiggled your shoulders which caused a chain reaction of everyone wiggling their shoulders. In all honesty, you all looked ridiculous.
Damien picked up the script from there, being the first to stop his wiggles. “Now, I know what you’re saying, ‘But it’s not Halloween!’ and yes, you’re right, it is not Halloween. Instead, it is a random day in the middle of August but we’re just here to give the people what they want.”
“And today, we’ve got Noah, Keith, Olivia, Courtney, Shayne, Damien, Y/n, Ian, Lasercorn, Mari, Wes, and myself here today!” Joven announced, pointing at each member as their names were called. “We have all our names in a hat and we will be drawing names to see who will go against who.”
Joven picked up the hat and held it out to Mari. She stuck her hand in and looked in the opposite direction. She pulled the slip from the hat and opened up the folded piece of paper. “Courtney!” she read out loud, passing the slip of paper to Joven.
“Alright, Mari and Courtney!”
Everyone cheered for the two girls and watched as they danced to the song of choice and cheered on when they both finished. Mari got a higher score, as expected but Courtney wasn’t too far behind.
Noah pulled a slip next, surprisingly getting Keith’s name pulled. “Koah is real, y’all,” Keith bragged going to hug the other boy. You laughed and took the iPad with the comments flooding in. Everyone was using the hashtag, ‘KoahisReal,’ and you couldn’t help but laugh and lean over to show Damien the screen.
Shayne and Olivia went right after them, doing the most awkward rendition of the song that had been chosen. Olivia had gotten the higher score of the two, mainly because Shayne gave up halfway through when it was evident that Olivia was going to win either way.
Since you had the iPad, you updated the scores and used the short break in between the dances to read and answer questions that the fans had commented.
Damien was next, he picked up the hat and stuck his hand in. You held your breath in anticipation and you honestly could say you were a little disappointed when he drew Wes’s name. You watched them dance, Damien more than Wes, and was shocked when Damien got the lowest score out of everyone.
Ian and Joven danced next and you new that would leave you and Lasercorn. Ian won, to nobody’s surprise. You passed the iPad off to Shayne and stood up to stretch and playfully psych Lasercorn out.
Now, Lasercorn was known to be a decent dancer but you were trained in most forms of dance starting from a very young age. So imagine the surprise on just about everyone’s faces when you not only lost to Lasercorn but also rang in at the lowest score of the night.
When Joven announced the scores, a smirk slipped onto his face as he realized what had happened. “I think Y/n lost on purpose so she could dance with Damien over here.”
Your cheeks grew instantly warm, your lips battling a smile as you protested the idea. You stated that you were rusty as you hadn’t danced in a while which was true. You watched on the monitor set up as the fans started to text-scream about you and Damien. You had to tear your eyes away from the screen to even continue with the stream.
The rest of the cast started to poke fun at you good-naturedly, mentioning how they had seen you hanging around Damien more often and that being rusty was a bold-faced excuse.
Of course, being rusty was an excuse but it got you where you wanted to be so you couldn’t be upset about it.
Once the teasing had died down you walked to meet Damien on the dance floor and took the phone the was offered to you so you could play the game. The second the music started playing, you started to dance along to the characters.
When the time came for you both to step closer to each other and for him to rest his hands on your waist, your breath hitched and you gave what could have been a shy smile if the rest of you weren’t so nervous.
The second the song ended, with you in Damien’s arms and you both breathing pretty heavily, Joven started to say the outro. Throughout the whole time, Damien hadn’t once let go of his arms around you and you decided right there that you enjoyed the feeling. Maybe even enjoyed it a little too much as your head grew light and you grew even giddier.
The cameras cut and that’s when his arms fell from being around you to him just holding your hand. Your cheeks flared once again and you had to fight to contain the squeal you oh-so desperately wanted to hold in.
“So, you wanna go for dinner?”
Mostly everyone had left already as it was the end of the day. They all either went to their desks to pick up their things or to Matt Raub who had called certain people to talk to after filming.
You turned to him and smiled cheekily, “I would love to go for dinner.”
“Then it’s a date.”

endless au edits: smosh theatre's seasonal lineup (2/4)
keeping up with the run of smosh classics, smosh's second production of the year will be a rendition of little shop of horrors in the spring, directed by the other esteemed smosh co-founder, ian hecox. as per usual, any hecox production is certain to be a delicious twist of comedy and tragedy, and this show fits that descriptor to the t. packed to the brim with bright and colorful costumes, elaborate props, and punchy dark humor, little shop makes perfect sense for a director well-known for finding the bright spots in the darkness (and vice versa). with his trusty stage manager sidekick and previous fellow director, spencer agnew, by his side, hecox is sure to make this musical a hit. as for the cast, fans will be delighted to see smosh's resident powerhouse courtney miller as audrey, a hopeless romantic with a heart of gold. miller is not only a vocal and theatrical legend, but also both nonbinary and queer, something they noted that they hope to bring to the role of audrey. miller shared the news on twitter earlier today, saying, "i cannot wait to bring to you this fantastic person i've gotten to know over these past few months. i've put a little piece of myself into her, and i just want you all to know this is our best, gayest show to date." smosh certainly leaned into this idea by making her leading man fellow queer actor and fan-favorite funnyman, tommy bowe. bowe has been with smosh for seven years now; over that time, he's gone from lighting director to bit-part actor to, finally, leading man. this will be the first smosh show bowe's ever taken the lead on, and as i know firsthand from working with him on several other theater productions, no one deserves it more. bowe also shared the news to his social media today, saying on his instagram that this is "a dream come true." we previously saw bowe and miller side-by-side in last year's production of les miserables as thenardier and madame thenardier respectively. as you may recall from my review, the two than proved that they have electrically fun chemistry and excellent comedic prowess, which is extremely promising for this production. i, for one, couldn't be happier for them, and i cannot wait to see how queer this show can really get. other than the two incredible leads, this may be one of the most interesting and unique casts smosh has ever assembled. starring in his first feature role at smosh is trevor evarts as orin scrivello, dds, audrey's controlling, masochistic boyfriend. known for his previous (and part-time continuing) work at the mythic playhouse, evarts is a mangenue on the rise to stardom, and this show is the perfect launchpad for his career. in an interview posted today with theater weekly, evarts said that he was "so excited to join the cast," stating boldly that, in his opinion, "smosh is the future of theater." as trevor's talent is so evidently rooted in his quick-witted, raunchy comedy, there is no doubt in my mind that evarts will make the perfect killer dentist. you know how the saying goes, though; something old, something new. thus, it should be no surprise that we will see two returning faces to the smosh stage, specifically mari takahashi (audrey ii) and joshua ovenshire (mr. mushnik). after nearly four years of absence, the two original cast members are returning for a much-anticipated reunion with the smosh crew. since their original leave, takahashi and ovenshire have worked together on several minor productions, as well as beginning their own podcast. today's episode confirmed that they would be making their re-debut on the smosh stage, discussing why they left and, more importantly, why they're coming back. as an actor, takahashi is known for her rich singing voice and commanding presence on stage, while ovenshire's specialty lies in physical humor and over-exaggerated personas. i can't think of better additions to this cast - although it will certainly be interesting to see how well the old blood blends with the new...
