In February of 1998, Kit was brought over to the Raccoon City Orphanage after being taken from his last foster family due to allegations of physical abuse. At first everything seem fine, he made friends with the other children living there and, strict as they may be, the caretakers at least fed him 3 meals a day and mostly left him to his own devices. 

Then the doctor visits started. The people who ran the orphanage often disguised it as something necessary, and aside from the usual bloodwork and occasional injection--it seemed normal. Until his next appointment that is, Kit had a severe reaction to one of the injections and it landed him in the hospital for more than two weeks. Doctors didn’t expect him to live through it, but surprisingly--especially to Umbrella, he did and recovered in under a week with hardly any side effects aside from fatigue.

Of course this caught the eye of Umbrella, now intent on continuing their experiments on Kit who managed survive what others didn’t.

Kit, on the other hand, didn’t want to continue the ‘appointments’ and started to get suspicious. It only rose when the people in charge kept on telling him that a foster family hasn’t been found for him yet. Children he made friends with never contacted him after they were ‘adopted’. Something was going on and he didn’t like it one bit.

So in typical Kit fashion, he started rebelling. Always kicking up a fuss whenever he had an appointment, refusing to eat and fighting against the doctors when needles are involved. It all came to a head one night in April that Umbrella had enough and Kit was taken from the Orphanage to NEST, a lab that is hidden deep underneath the city. That was his home for the next few months and at that point, the scientists started to become aware that Kit wasn’t like the rest. Whenever he would have his usual fit during experiments, random things would end up broken--usually a light or a glass vial, sometimes equipment would fail and at one time, one of the doctors ended up in medical care after suffering a stroke.

And after every single event, Kit ended up with either a nosebleed or a headache, and usually exhausted to the point of being docile for the doctors to handle.

However, despite being held captive in NEST, Kit has been patiently waiting. He’s been keeping track of the schedule, of the people that comes in and out and of any potential routes for him to take. Fortunately for him, Kit’s photographic memory often came in handy.

One quiet night in July, Kit's planning finally came into fruition. Getting to the surface wasn’t as difficult as he thought it would be. No, it was keeping out of Umbrella’s eye that was the hard part. He couldn’t return to the Orphanage and he couldn’t trust the police, not with Chief Irons at the helm. Relying on his street smarts, Kit lived out on the streets, sometimes taking refuge in the sewers, doing what he can to keep away from Umbrella.

When the outbreak in Raccoon City occurred, Kit didn’t have to worry much about Umbrella anymore.
