think i might kill for will's painting to purely be a labor of love.     he's fifteen years old and largely self - taught,  art a well - oiled medium of expressing himself but only ever in ways he simply shared among friends.     he draws for fun and for others,  for himself when words aren't enough.     the chances the painting looks anything close to professional are slim,  or they should be.     i hope it looks lopsided and maybe even a little messy  ;  far from bad but just out of reach of something perfect.     it's the colors that make it beautiful,  soft blues and oranges,  a glow of pink,  liquid nostalgia on canvas.     it's the fact he's spent hours on it,  this bite - sized piece of himself he's feeling brave enough to share with someone so important to him,  just because.     unabashed affection and gratitude.     honesty.     that's what makes it beautiful.
