BIO

childhood

maybe it was being born into a family with three older brothers (and an eventual younger sister) or her eccentric parents, but marlene was a rowdy tomboy pretty much from the moment she could walk. as a young child, she would climb up the trees in her backyard, wrestle in the mud with her siblings, try and catch frogs in the local creak, play football with her brothers, etc. there was hardly a time that she didn't come home caked in the filth of the day, much to her father's chagrin and her mother's good natured clucking.

unfortunately, it wasn't all fun and games for young marlene. as a child, the girl had a rather explosive temper and would often get into fights with the other kids in the neighborhood. it wasn't as if she went out of her way to hurt anyone, she just had no tolerance for bullies or cruelty. despite being a scrawny brat, she typically scrapped by okay, but after one incident that landed her in the hospital with a concussion, her parents decided that it was time for a more professional intervention. so there on afterwards, marlene was enrolled in counseling and certain extracurricular activities to curve her more volatile behavioral patterns. 

hogwarts years

things had settled down a bit for marlene by the time she had gotten her letter. and for a short while, things were peaceful: she was sorted into gryffindor, made friends, and did normal kids stuff. but things don't stay golden forever, and the peace was bound to end. 

being a half blood, marlene always felt like she had the best of both worlds, muggle and magic, and she never thought there was anything wrong with that until her first year at hogwarts. half breed. mudblood. dirty blood. blood traitor. it was the first time she had heard those words hurled at her and those around her so ferociously. it wasn't that her parents never explained the bigotry of the world or that she never experienced it before from muggles, but she figured that a world full of magic would have been more socially evolved. it was a quick and painful realization that such a thing was a fantasy. 

things didn't get better. if anything, they got worse and worse as the years went by, especially after tom riddle finalized his iron grip on the wizarding world. it had become so dangerous and hostile that the mckinnons had to flee their home in london for scotland. but they didn't all make it. marlene and only one of her siblings survived the trek, though it didn't feel like it.

adulthood

to say the following years were basically ground zero would have been an understatement. not only did mars have to deal with her personal grief, everyone had to face the tyranny that had engulfed them. those facts made it practically a given for her to join the order. life practically became a blur ever since.

OTHER

her father was a pureblood wizard from scotland who moved to england in his twenties. it was there that he met hye-ran, a muggleborn who immigrated from south korea. despite his family's objections, they fell in love and got married in a whirlwind romance. the rest is history.

marlene hasn't had a permanent residence since the mckinnons fled from their home. depending on her assignments, she'll rough it or find temporary housing. outside of that, she couchsurfs. because of that, she has few possessions. which is fine. she's never needed much.

despite the direness of everything, marlene tries to find light and joy where she can, and create it where she can't.

she still has her old skateboard from her hogwarts years.

she had wanted to become a curse breaker as a student. now, it's kind of up in the air.

camping, hiking, swimming, etc. mars has always loved nature and outdoor activities.
