Bishamon was the better team tonight. I'm proud of how far we've come in such a short period of time. I love you, @hiku_leo . We tried our best, but unfortunately it wasn't enough. I'm going to pick myself up and train more, but first I need to sleep for 3 days! #njwtl

World Tag League 2021 & Best Of The Super Juniors 28 Night 23 - 12/15/2021: Winners of Two Tournaments Revealed; Katsuyori Shibata Announces Match At WK16 Night 1; Ospreay Becomes Warrior Wrestling Champion
Tumblr media
The tour-ending Finals for both World Tag League 2021 and Best Of The Super Juniors 28 took place today at Tokyo Ryogoku Kokugikan, and you can see it now on NJPWWorld. Quite a lot of setup for what is to come at Wrestle Kingdom 16 happened here, as we head into the final four shows of 2021 starting next week...
- 12/15/2021, Tokyo Ryogoku Kokugikan
Minoru Suzuki [SZKG], TAKA Michinoku [JTO] & DOUKI [SZKG] d. Ryusuke Taguchi, Yuto Nakashima & Kosei Fujita (DOUKI > Fujita, Italian Stretch No.32, 6:07)
Taiji Ishimori & El Phantasmo [Bullet Club] d. Tiger Mask IV & Ryohei Oiwa (Ishimori > OIwa, Sudden Death [ELP], 2:31)
Taichi, Zack Sabre Jr., El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru [SZKG] d. Toru Yano [CHAOS], Togi Makabe, Tomoaki Honma & Master Wato (Sabre > Honma, Referee Stoppage, 9:16)
Hiroshi Tanahashi, Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Satoshi Kojima & Yuji Nagata d. Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa, Bad Luck Fale & Chase Owens [Bullet Club] (Tanahashi > Owens, Samson Clutch, 9:25)
Tetsuya Naito & SANADA [Los Ingobernables] d. Great O-Khan & Jeff Cobb [United Empire] (Naito > Cobb, Hurricanrana, 9:30)
Kazuchika Okada & Robbie Eagles [CHAOS] d. Shingo Takagi & BUSHI [Los Ingobernables] (Okada > BUSHI, Rainmaker, 11:32)
World Tag League 2021 Final: Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI [CHAOS] d. EVIL & Yujiro Takahashi [Bullet Club] (YOSHI-HASHI > Yujiro, Naraku, 19:58) - Goto/YOSHI-HASHI win World Tag League 2021
Best Of The Super Juniors 28 Final: Hiromu Takahashi [Los Ingobernables] d. YOH [CHAOS] (Timebomb II, 38:30) - Hiromu Takahashi wins Best Of The Super Juniors 28
Hiromu Takahashi wins his third consecutive Best Of The Super Juniors, having won last year and in 2018, but was out of 2019's tournament due to his heinous neck injury. This was the longest-ever BOSJ match in the history of the tournament. And really, it's the right call. Hiromu has proven he can headline shows, and be a semi-main-eventer in the Tokyo Dome already. The history and feud between Hiromu and El Desperado adds to the aura of what will surely be the IWGP Juniorheavyweight title match at WK16. YOH, for his part, did himself credit, going through his redemption saga and even getting one over on SHO during the tournament. We'll see when their rubber match comes about. Hirooki Goto wins his 3rd World Tag League crown, whilst YOSHI-HASHI gets his first. All credit to YOSHI-HASHI -- he was never a third wheel on his/Goto/Ishii's NEVER 6-Man reign for the last year, and has finally found a good niche for himself in the company after underachieving for so long compared to others of his Young Lion class (particularly Kazuchika Okada). It's good to see people who work hard succeed even if it takes a long time to do so. Goto/YOSHI-HASHI v. Dangerous Tekkers will be coming soon enough now too. Despite a really down year for NJPW, the Heavyweight tag division has actually fun and interesting to watch in 2021. KENTA appeared via video message to challenge Hiroshi Tanahashi to a No-DQ match for the IWGP US Heavyweight title at WK16, which, OK, sure, sounds fun. KENTA's partner once upon a time, Katsuyori Shibata, appeared in the ring, choking back tears, proclaiming simply that he will have a match on January 4, 2022, and that was all. No details on whom his opponent would be or where on the card this match will take place. It will not be an exhibition match like his 5-minute grappling encounter with Zack Sabre Jr. at the G1 Climax 31 Final. I've said my piece about what I feel about the idea of Shibata returning to wrestling numerous times since April 2017, I'm not going to repeat it here. I just hope he knows what he's doing and he doesn't further damage himself in the process. He's 42 years old at this stage, which by itself isn't exactly a prohibitive factor anymore, but he's not a young man either. Poor Ryohei Oiwa got squashed in under three minutes. We now have a potential three-way challenge for the junior tag titles, between champions Flying Tiger (Tiger Mask IV & Robbie Eagles), Ishimori/ELP and now Taguchi/Master Wato. Be still my beating heart. Will Ospreay has another title belt in his possession, this time whilst actually being champion. (OK he is still RevPro champion as well...) On Sunday in Tinley Park, IL, Ospreay won the Warrior Wrestling championship, in a 3-way match between himself, then-champion Trey Miguel, and Blake Christian. Ospreay proclaimed he will have the title with him at Night 2 of WK16 on 1/5/2022, and is being advertised for Warrior's show in South Bend, IN, on 1/22/2022, against an opponent to be determined. We'll see how long this lasts I guess. You can see Sunday’s show on FITE TV for a fee. The next show is on 12/21/2021, the first night of four for the Road To Tokyo Dome year-end tour. No lineups have been announced yet. Six days' break is the longest gap between shows that we've had in months. Maybe I need a vacation?

World Tag League 2021 & Best Of The Super Juniors 28 Night 20 - 12/9/2021; Rocky Falls On Dynamite But It Was All Worth It In The End; Announcement About The Future Of The Podcast and What’s To Come Around These Parts
Tumblr media
The tour continued today, with the penultimate round of World Tag League 2021 matches. These are not yet up on NJPWWorld, however, yesterday’s BOSJ28 matches are, if you want to watch those tonight.
- 12/9/2021, Ehime Item
Yuto Nakashima TLD Kosei Fujita (10:00)
World Tag League 2021: EVIL & Yujiro Takahashi [Bullet Club] d. Minoru Suzuki [SZKG] & TAKA Michinoku [JTO] (Yujiro > TAKA, Big Juice, 9:31)
World Tag League 2021: Tetsuya Naito & SANADA [Los Ingobernables] d. Yuji Nagata & Tiger Mask IV (SANADA > Nagata, Moonsault Press, 13:56)
World Tag League 2021: Taichi & Zack Sabre Jr. [SZKG] d. Togi Makabe & Tomoaki Honma (Taichi > Honma, Seiteijujiryo, 13:39)
World Tag League 2021: Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa [Bullet Club] d. Bad Luck Fale & Chase Owens [Bullet Club] (Tonga > Fale, pinfall, 11:28)
World Tag League 2021: Hiroshi Tanahashi & Toru Yano [CHAOS] d.  Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Satoshi Kojima (Yano > Tenzan, Schoolboy, 9:17)
World Tag League 2021: Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI [CHAOS] d.  Great O-Khan & Aaron Henare [United Empire] (YOSHI-HASHI > Henare, Shoto, 19:43)
Goto/YOSHI-HASHI defeat O-Khan/Henare, making it much harder for them to advance, but they do have a slim chance. The CHAOS duo then cut a promo on Dangerous Tekkers, declaring they would win and advance to the Final. It’s possible! Goto & YOSHI-HASHI’s stock has really risen as a tandem the last year, so no reason why they couldn’t, honestly.
Dangerous Tekkers and Naito/SANADA also get the win. Suzuki and HoT got into it post-match.
Current WTL2021 standings:
Dangerous Tekkers - 16pts (8W 0D 2L) Naito/SANADA - 16pts (8W 0D 2L) Goto/YOSHI-HASHI - 16pts (8W 0D 2L) O-Khan/Henare - 14pts (7W 0D 3L) EVIL/Yujiro - 14pts (7W 0D 3L) Guerrillas of Destiny - 12pts (6W 0D 4L) Fale/Owens - 12pts (6W 0D 4L) Team Be-Bop - 12pts (6W 0D 4L) TenKoji - 4pts (2W 0D 8L) GBH - 2pts (1W 0D 9L) Nagata/Tiger - 2pts (1W 0D 9L) Suzuki/TAKA - 0pts (0W 0D 10L)
The winner of Goto/YOSHI-HASHI v. Dangerous Tekkers on Sunday will advance. If they draw, they both advance if Naito/SANADA lose. Naito/SANADA advance with a win over EVIL/Yujiro; the reverse could be true too, as HoT have wins over both Goto/YOSHI-HASHI and Dangerous Tekkers, so would leapfrog the loser of that match. O-Khan/Henare are the outside candidates -- they need to beat GoD, then hope EVIL/Yujiro beat Naito/SANADA, AND Dangerous Tekkers lose. O-Khan/Henare would advance then on head-to-head wins over both Tekkers and HoT, but they have a lot more variables to deal with, so it’s pretty unlikely.
Tumblr media
Last night on AEW Dynamite, Rocky Romero reunited with his CHAOS mutual Chuck Taylor against old nemeses Matt & Nick Jackson, The Young Bucks, with Adam Cole in the Bucks’ corner. Rocky would eat the pin to a Meltzer Driver, but it was all worth it in the end. Post-match, the Superkliq began beating down Rocky, Dustin and Orange Cassidy, when who should appear but Greg... Trent Beretta, that is... with his mom Sue and Kris Statlander in Sue’s minivan to make the save. Trent was shaven-headed and jacked, it must be said. Afterwards, they Gave The People What They Wanted, and even played the old Roppongi Vice theme, which made the whole segment worth it.
So. Here’s a thing:
As I’ve hinted before, I’ve gotten a little burnt out this year with things in NJPW. I know my co-host @damascenocs has too. For a big stretch we’ve gone months between episodes of the podcast. We’re doing other things. I’ve got two other podcasts I do on a weekly or bi-weekly(ish) basis. That’s in addition to other writing, both wrestling, and I’m still trying to get a career in comics going. Plus, you know, a day job and a family to support, still.
After briefly discussing with Chris, I’ve decided that the next two episodes of the Strong Style Story Podcast, which will be both our Wrestle Kingdom 16 preview and our 6th Anniversary shows, will be the last ones for at least a while. I think after six years of doing this, we need a break. It’s not like we’re making money off this or anything, and we’re all off doing other shows besides at this point.
So those will be most likely at the end of this month, before three nights, worth of WK16 hit our screens.
The blog will still be ongoing. I’m not changing that. There may be a slight change in the content and scope of the blog, but I’m still debating if that will happen. I like writing about other things in Japanese wrestling, but I also don’t have the time to watch all the things in Japanese wrestling either. Luchablog.com has drifted over to a 2-3 times per week schedule, it’s possible I might do the same. I really just don’t know yet. I’m still mulling that over. There’s also a possibility the dedicated (at)StongStylStory Twitter feed may be absorbing my personal Twitter, and the Wrestling Twitter becomes my one-stop-shop, because SSS Twitter has way more followers than my revived-in-2018 personal Twitter. This is more for engagement purposes as I am looking to do some crowdfunding ventures in 2022 for my comics work. To crowdfund, you need a crowd. My personal Twitter doesn’t have that, this one does. It’s how it is.
I’m still also planning to keep up with Boom Goes The Dynamite at this time, as well as my other other podcast, the comedy soccer podcast Busting Balls. As well as my writing work at FanFyte for as long as they’ll have me. But something needs to change, and I think the SSS Podcast may be it. I may miss it too much and come back within a few months. I may actually decide to refocus on Strong Style History instead. Or something else entirely. Who knows! Not me, not right now.
Anyway, thanks to everyone who’s listened to this show and read this blog, as always.
The tour is off tomorrow, before Saturday’s BOSJ28 group stage decider, to see who will be in the Finals. This is the final card match order as well. This one will be live on NJPWWorld.
- 12/11/2021, Hyogo Aqulier Himeji

Best Of The Super Juniors 28: YOH [CHAOS] v. SHO [Bullet Club]
Best Of The Super Juniors 28: El Desperado [SZKG] v. El Phantasmo [Bullet Club]

Can I just say that the njpw show I just watched (30/11/2018) was one of the very best I’ve ever seen all year. It really does annoy me when I see people (not on here though) complaining about how Kenny’s not on the shows so they’re not watching or whatever. All of the 3 major champions are not on this tour and guess what .. it’s still fucking good and fun to watch. The only valid title at this point is the NEVER one (I’m only talking about singles heavyweight titles)
So my point is, and don’t get me wrong I love Kenneth but there’s so much more to NJPW than the elite & chris jericho. Imo Kenny’s absence is barely even noticeable because A-he’s barely there to begin with and B- the roster does not need to be *carried* by a bunch of popular people because literally everyone is so good. Who needs fucking Cody when you have Kazu? Juice, Finlay and Jay are all amazing and there’s Kojima, Nakanishi, Nagata and Tenzan who are literally 50 and killing it. Not to mention Suzuki being .. suzuki. And fucking LIJ? Can you imagine what it’ll be like when Hiromu’s back?
What I’m trying to say is that the elite may be the most popular act but if you got into NJPW because of them and now you’re frustrated that they’re not on tours anymore give the roster a chance.
