ST:TNG Season 6 Finale/Season 7 Premiere Watchthrough
Descent: Well folks… this is the final finale/premiere two-parter of the series. So let’s go ahead and hop to it.
Part One: The Enterprise encounters the Borg once more… but they are acting differently. Namely, they are acting emotionally and individually. They even have names/use singular pronouns when referring to themselves. That’s crazy enough but to make it worst, Data is also having sudden emotional bursts. Yeah, folks, we’re getting a follow-up to I, Borg. There’s a 50/50 chance that the show will follow up on something so I am very glad to see the Borg plot continuing~! And holy Hell folks… this was wild. The Borg plot is enough o get me interested especially without the question of if the changes are happening due to Hugh? Which Starfleet makes it very clear that if those conditions happen again, he is to initiate his original ‘destroy the Borg’ plan from I, Borg no matter what his morality says. Data is struggling with re-provoking the anger he felt and I like how Troi told him that emotions are not inherently positive or negative, it’s the actions we take when we feel them that determine if they’re good or bad. That is so true… although it gets horrifying when Data admits to feeling pleasure when he killed a Borg. Then a Borg they captured manipulates him into betraying his friends to feel again… just holy shit. Like when Data says that he’d be willing to kill Geordi to feel again, just… I’m positive that something funky is going on, but still. That was just chilling. It only gets worst when we find out who the true villain of the piece is. After over two seasons of waiting… Lore has returned. Yeah, the tension is massive compared to Time’s Arrow and even Redemption. We have the Borg. We have Lore. We have everything happening with Data. If I was watching this weekly when it was airing, this certainly would have made me stay tuned for the next part. Speaking of, can P2 bring us a satisfying conclusion? We shall soon see. 4.5/5.
Part Two: Things could NOT be worst for our heroes if they tried. Picard, Geordi, and Troi have been captured, Crusher’s been left to captain the Enterprise and forced to flee by the Borg, Riker and Worf are left on their own with no aid, and Data has betrayed his friends and joined Lore. As it turns out, Lore is essentially using the Emotion Chip to drug/brainwash Data with emotions and is planning to take over the Federation an kill ‘inferior beings’ with Data at his side. I’ll go into my thoughts on this part of Data’s plot in the Overall. Again, this was intense. There is a Hell of a lot going on. We even get Hugh back! Again, more on him and what his return with his newfound individuality caused in the Overall, but it’s so nice to see him again~! It honestly gets hard to watch like with Chain of Command, though not quite as hard to stomach. Data slowly killing/almost lebotimizing Geordi and with Geordi’s VISOR taken from him on top of it… Lore, I felt bad for you in Brothers but after this? After what you did to your own brother? F*** you! There are a lot of really cool moments like Crusher being a badass Acting Captain and everything regarding Data and Lore’s final standoff once Data’s come to his senses. I also loved Taitt, both cute and intelligent~! I assume that this is the end for Lore consideirng that this is the final season, and… I kinda wish that it was a bit more epic or he’d gotten at least one more appearance prior to this to truy build-up to it. Though him corrupting a group of vulnerable Borgs is certianly a good endgame direciton for a villain like him, it just needed a bit more build-up to be just a bit more impactful. Still this was one hell of an episode and a perfectly good way to end this chapter of Data’s saga… sort of, but again Overall. I was still happy with it and as a second part/series premiere, it worked perfectly. 4.5/5.
Overall: So how does the episode stack up when judged together? Holy Hell, it was intense. There is so much happening. We find out what happened with Hugh and the Collective when he was sent back. Essentially, chaos happened. They don’t ignore the consequences of what the choice would cause and Hugh is certainly unhappy that the crew allowed it though he does still care about Geordi and their friendship which saved the day in the end. But these events left the remaining Borg of that Cube vulnerable for Lore to swoop in and sway them to his side save a few like Hugh. He was always an emotional manipulator, but getting the Borg under his command? Just… damn. Then we have Data’s plot. So… I’ve made my feelings on Data’s emotions clear. In hat he has them, he just expresses them differently than the ‘norm’. So it’s always been frustrating when it seems that the show can’t decide if Data has emotions or not. But the one constant is that at the very least, Data doesn’t believe that he does. He felt anger very intensely, and it worries him. This, the drugging/brainwashing caused by Lore, and his eternal struggle to become more human left him prime and vulnerable to be manipulated and corrupted like he was. Lore purposefully feeding him his negative emotions, turning off what is essentially his conscious… as I said above, this made me thoroughly detest Lore. Again Iw ish his end was a bit more epic, but as sad as it had to be for Data, Lore was dangerous, manipulative, and at this point a genocidal monster. Did he mean his final words expressing that he loves his brother? Maybe it’s true to some extent, but even then Lore has proven a manipulative person who will only harm Data. Data reactivated/reassembled him all the way back in S1 because he was his brother… ut, in the end, there was no chance of Lore redeeming himself or being forgiven. Data deactivated him once more, and that is how Lore will remain forever. As for the emotional ship… I’m gonna save it for whenever I get to Generations for now. I’m not inherently against the idea of Data holding onto it even though IDT he needs it, but… let’s just say that I’m gonna have words cause I know how this will go, but I wanna be fair and save it for the correct time and place.
If I was going to rank all the finale/premiere two-parters it would be The Best of Both Worlds first, then Descent, then Redemption, and finally Time’s Arrow. The last one was fun, but pretty low stakes and tame compared to the others. Redemption has a strong first half, but the second half just kinda fizzled out. IDT I need to explain why The Best of Both Worlds is the best, getting the tension, drama, caracter develpment, and thrill exactly right and working perfeclty as both a finale/premiere and as an whole episode. Descent lacks the epicness despite Part 1 doing a good job in setting it up, but Part 2 just couldn’t quite match it. But it does succeed in everything else. It’s exciting, it’s dramatic, it has character development, and it serves it’s purposes both spitu-up and put together well. It was hard to see Data put through this, especially towards Geordi. i eman Hell in P1 he tried to get Geordi to remove a Holodeck safety when re-creating the fight even though it could kill him with Geordi understandably disturbed by such a request. But as a sucker for thesekinds of plots, it was done well. In the end, second place is a pretty good place to end up. 4.5/5.
And thus, that concludes Season 6 and begins the seventh and final season of TNG. Yep folks, only 25 episodes left to go. After three months, even longer if you count me starting in Spring and then stopping for several months after finishing S1, the end is near. I’ll muse more in the upcoming Top 5 Best/Worst list, which will be up sometime tomorrow morning once I have it queued. But if all goes well. by this time next week aside from the films, TNG will at last be finished. But that’s for then, for now time to work on wrapping S6 up~!

Lessons to be Learned from Queen & Freddie

Lessons to be Learned from Queen & Freddie
Bohemian Blockchain Rhapsody
Lessons to be Learned from Queen & Freddie
Bohemian Rhapsody—the movie—has been released and continues on a rock and roll high as it beat box office expectations—big time! The film, which cost $52 million to make, brought in $50 million in the opening weekend and to date has brought in $152 million in the States and $320 million outside of the US.
It is already the biggest grossing bio-pic ever and there’s no indication it will slow anytime soon. The feat was accomplished despite fairly rough reviews, but if you have ever banged your head to the song Bohemian Rhapsody, this is a film worth watching for the sheer elation and euphoria of the music and the exceptional acting by Rami Malek who plays Queen’s fabulous frontman, Freddie Mercury. (I can easily see an Oscar nomination for Mr. Malek.)
At the same time, there are lessons to be learned from Queen and Freddie. That’s especially true for those in the emerging and exciting world of blockchain and crypto currencies.
One—Be Unconventional: While Queen formed in 1970 in London, it wasn’t until 1974 when they began to do things in a divergent manner and their music became internationally popular. They did this first with the song Killer Queen which contained elaborate four-part harmonies. And later, on Bohemian Rhapsody, they combined opera with hard rock. That hadn’t been done, and for Queen, it worked wonderfully.
In the blockchain and crypto world, given there are so many things that look the same, being divergent can be a decisive thing in terms of success. As for blockchain, well, the Go To concept is replace existing book-keeping with blockchain. You pick the sector-specific application: finance, real estate, precious metals, diamonds or gems. Blockchain certainly can—and should—be used in these areas, but for entrepreneurs, being more disruptive can be a differentiator.
The same is true for crypto currencies and even crypto exchanges. Most of us know about the thousands of crypto currency start-ups out there, but only a few are incredibly imaginative. Most fall back to stated strategies and tired tales of how they can be the next big thing. As for exchanges, most explain how they will pool liquidity from various crypto currencies, thus creating better price discovery with deeper markets which will lead to less volatility. The reality is this: There isn’t enough liquidity for all these crypto exchanges to do what they espouse.
So, like Freddie and Queen, and specifically the song Bohemian Rhapsody, think in a different way. Get creative.
Two—Be Persistent: The film describes how the band was told repeatedly by old school record company executives that songs more than three minutes in length would not receive radio airplay. Bohemian Rhapsody was nearly six minutes (5:55).  The band was committed to the song and finally figured out a potential strategy. They bootlegged copies to a few friendly radio station disc jockeys. Once the song was played, fans wanted copies, even though no product was on the market. Queen had created demand for a product that did not yet exist for purchase. That soon changed, of course.
The same can be true for imaginative blockchain applications and cryptos. But it means more than just adding the word “blockchain” to a project. It requires persistence and perseverance.
Three—Put the effort—and Money—into your Project: It’s said, Bohemian Rhapsody was the most expensive single to produce, ever (at the time). Turns out, it was well worth it. The song stayed at the top of the UK charts for nine weeks and sold more than a million copies in the first year. After Freddie passed, it was re-released in 1991, and again topped the charts for five weeks. The tune was a treasure, too, in other countries, including the United States where it peaked at number nine, and then again went to number two on the charts in 1992 following the release of the movie Wayne’s World.
Likewise, for blockchain and cryptos, the founders and investors of such endeavors, many times, seem to have some pretty great and grand visions of what they will do. But, they get side-tracked or held up for a few reasons. Money tends to be a key culprit causing folks to abandon or forestall their vivid visions. For example, many such blockchain and crypto projects start out with the goal of becoming fully compliant from a regulatory perspective in the United States. The US is the gold standard for regulation and having approval from regulators will differentiate the project. But what many fail to realize up front is the length of time and the cost—the money—it takes to become regulatorily compliant. All of a sudden, projects are scaling back and putting US compliance on back burners and bottoms of To Do lists.
For the longer-term future of blockchain and cryptos, they are going to require such regulatory approval. Perhaps individual founders and sponsors will choose to wait for others to do the hard—an expensive—work in this regard. They do so, however, at their own peril, because often times, first movers in the space become the big boys and girls at the party (think BitCoin).
Four—Go the Extra Mile: As part of the promotion for Bohemian Rhapsody, Queen produced a full-length promotional music video. This was years before music television and MTV. Rolling Stone magazine noted the video’s importance could not be over-stated in moving toward the era of music videos which became mostly mandatory in new music for a long time.
In that regard, blockchain and cryptos can also do better. Today, the pattern is far from perfection. Come up with a concept. Produce a White Paper. Put up a website. Try to raise money and see if it works. The nutty thing is: that approach worked really well for a while. All of the Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) of the last two years are a testament to that approach. But, nowadays, investors are more picky…and they should be. Those blockchain and crypto entrepreneurs which do more—value-add to their effort—will be the ones which make major moves going forward.
When we think of Queen and Freddie’s great music and of the fun and fierce film, we can simply stop our feet and chant “We will, we will rock you.” That may be enough. But, for those in the blockchain and crypto world, perhaps taking a few Queen cues is also a royal idea.

25 Simple Ways to Use Thieves Essential Oil
Thieves Essential Oil blend is a fantastic natural addition to your medicine cabinet.  This oil is a proprietary blend of rosemary, cloves and other aromatics and botanicals.  It’s beneficial for immune support and is well known for it’s purifying properties.  Thieves can be used as an aromatic or topically, giving it a lot of versatility.  How versatile, you ask?  Well, here’s just a sample of the simple ways to use Thieves essential oil in your home!
  1. Immune Support Capsules – Pour a few drops of the oil in a capsule and swallow with water for a boost to your immune system.  Fight off colds during flu season before you even feel them coming!  Or take them periodically on a regular schedule to increase longevity.
  2.  Topical Rub – Feeling ill?  Kick cold or stomach bug symptoms to the curb.  Dilute Thieves with regular olive oil and rub it on the soles of the feet (or along the spine for particularly nasty bugs).  This will help your body absorb their purifying properties and jump start your immune response to sickness.
  3. Laryngitis – Place a diluted drop of Thieves under your tongue when your voice is raspy or gone entirely.  It’ll help clear up your vocal strain in no time.
  4. Nasal Function – If you’re feeling sniffly, sneezy and itchy, putting Thieves on the soles of the feet can alleviate symptoms and encourage proper nasal function.  You can also apply a drop of Thieves diluted in a drop of olive oil directly under your nose.
  5. Lung Congestion – Place Thieves in a diffuser then drape your head with a towel, trapping the vapors.  Breath the vapors in for up to 5 minutes.
  6. Travel Well – Take Thieves along with you when you travel on planes, trains or buses.  Rub some into the soles of your feet or take a drop or two with orange juice to ward off airborne illnesses and amp up your immune system.
  7. Throat Spray – Adding Thieves to a spray bottle of water and sea salt can create your very own version of a disinfectant spray.  You can then use this to numb a sore throat!
  8. Headache Relief – This quick fix for headaches requires nothing special at all!  Simply use a finger to apply a drop of Thieves to the roof of your mouth.
  9. Skin abrasions – If you’ve got a small cut or simple abrasion, ditch the Neosporin and try Thieves instead.  Apply 1-3 drops with a cotton ball or q-tip to the wound for anti-bacterial purposes and to speed healing.
  10.  Skin Care – To help with acne, you can dilute a few drop of Thieves with a carrier oil, like coconut oil (known for anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties), and apply it to affected spots with a q-tip.  Or mix it with olive oil and apply over the face.  It’s nontoxic and will clean away nasty germs.
  11. Wart Remover – No more expensive and only slightly affective OTC wart removers!  All you need to do is apply Thieves directly to the affected area – or dilute it with some coconut oil.  It’ll kill any viruses there and get rid of those warts completely.  Added bonus: the coconut oil will moisturize the area as well!
  12. Athlete’s Foot – Rub oil “neat” (undiluted) directly onto the area of your foot that’s infected.  Or you can make a foot soak with warm water, epsom salts and thieves combined.
  13. Canker Sore Relief – Follow the directions here to fight off canker sores.  You can apply the oil “neat” (undiluted) directly to the spot, or dilute it with coconut oil – known for its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.  Not only will it speed the healing process, but it will numb the area upon contact for some needed relief.
  14. Gum Health – Rub a drop of oil neat on irritated areas of the gum, or dilute it with a natural oil carrier like coconut or olive oil, then apply with a q-tip.  It will reduce swelling and inflammation, kill germs and bacteria, and promote overall dental health.  Plus, it’ll help freshen your breath!
  15. Oil-pulling – Combine a drop of Thieves with coconut oil for regular oil-pulling.  This can help with oral hygiene, as well as immune support and overall health.
  16.  Remove Splinters – Applying Thieves oil to a sliver or splinter and allowing it to rest for about 5 minutes will reduce the inflammation and cause the sliver to rise to the surface of the skin.  With its anti-bacterial properties it’s a great alternative to rubbing alcohol or the like.
  17. Natural Air Purifier – Use a diffuser with Thieves for 15-30 minutes in your home to purify the air.  It will start removing mold around the house and eliminate some germs.  It leaves a refreshing, natural and clean scent.  It can also promote a happier mood.
  18. Floor Care – Add a few drops to a bucket of water and mop your floor as you normally do.  It will ward of mold and mildew, kill germs and bacteria and make your floors smell good!
  19. Sani-Wipes – Add a few drops of Thieves to warm water, then dip in clean, small scraps of cotton or muslin cloth.  Wring them out well, then keep them in a small, airtight glass jar.  Take them with you when shopping to disinfect shopping carts and other germy surfaces.  It’s nontoxic, so perfectly safe with kids.
  20.  Dishwashing – Use a few drops in your dishwater or dishwasher along with your regular detergent to thoroughly clean your dishes.  Bonus: it eliminates any lingering odor from grease or strong-smelling foods!
  21. Purifying Spray – Add Thieves to water in a glass spray bottle and spray everything that is high traffic – light switches, doorknobs, countertops, etc.  This is especially effective during flu season to ward off unwanted germs and bacteria.  It can also get rid of mold in damp areas and prevent future mold build up – just add some distilled white vinegar as well.
22. Bath Toy Disinfectant – Make a solution of equal parts vinegar and hot water, then add a few drops of Thieves.  Soak your bath toys for 10 minutes to get rid of mold and help with mold prevention.
  23. Canine Wound Care – If you’ve got a furry four-legged friend that’s prone to surface scrapes and abrasions, you can use Thieves to clean the cut and speed healing.
  24. Marker Eraser – If you accidentally grab the wrong type of marker when using a white board, you can make that “permanent” problem go away by putting a few drop of Thieves on a tissue and rubbing.
  25. Plant Care – Spraying diluted Thieves on houseplants or gardens can repel insects and guard against mold or fungus.  Learn more essential oil plant care tips at the link.
