so we’ve all been thinking about whittaker!master

and i love her with every fibre of my being and fully intend to write her soon.

but today a couple of other posts have had me thinking about a dark!yaz to go with whittaker!master (bc yes i am a thassie wbk i would die for them so of course i would make it work for this scenario)

SO what i have been thinking about is,,,, where would this dark!yaz come from? because yaz is a police officer and at her core she is an inherently good person and it SHOWS throughout her whole time on the show so far. So what would make her go dark?

(gonna put the rest under the cut because this got LONG)

WELL.... i give you.... the Kasaavin’s dimension. Something in there or just about being there just fucking her up and exploiting any little scrap of darkness she had inside of her.

Yaz ending up there and thinking she was dead was something s12 unfortunately never properly explored in her character and she never mentioned it again after spyfall??? so in this roleswap au it would be the PERFECT catalyst for her taking a dark path and joining the master.

i mean for starters just look at this place.

honestly that in itself is enough to mess anyone up at little. the kasaasvin dimension is literally never ending like they are clearly giving the impression it goes on forever and there is no end to how far it goes. It’s no wonder Yaz thought she was dead!! It honestly looks like hell and for someone with a past like Yaz (that was now know of because of Can You Hear Me?) its completely understandable as to why she was so horrified by this place.

In this moment she’s trying so hard not seem TERRIFIED but she’s failing so badly and it’s made clear by the tremor you can hear in her voice and the tears in her eyes. but she’s still trying to be good.

“Ok. PC Khan. Nothing to worry about.” she’s trying to reassure herself. ONE that she’s gonna be ok because the doctor always saves them right?? and TWO if we bring this to dark!yaz she’s trying to reassure herself that she is good because she can feel the edges of something dark creeping in just from being there in that dimension and she is PC KHAN she is GOOD. isn’t she?

then you’ve got honestly whatever the fuck this is because there is SO MUCH about the kasaavin that is unexplained and its gives so much potential for them being what takes yaz down a dark path. this electricity looking stuff?? what even is that? because it’s what transports yaz back to earth and from the way she screams when it happens i don’t imagine it was exactly pleasant. like this stuff is coursing through her as she’s transported, getting into her head and her brain and maybe almost rewiring her a little bit? so essentially the yaz that got transported away isn’t quite the same one that came back.

somthing’s changed, she’s a little darker now... and that’s going to fester.

i mean you just have to look at her face when she’s in the box to see how much that dimension messed her up. that is not the expression of someone who is ok. (because deep down she knows something in her has changed? 👀)

and THEN after all that, in her currently pretty vulnerable and malleable state, someone pays her attention.... the master. in this case whittaker!master.

obviously we know the master is (loosely) working with the kasaavin and probably knows a bit more about them than us and the doctor. so as soon as she saw that look above on yaz’s face, she knew what they had done and she had to hold in that excitement and menacing glee because she was going to turn one of his companions again him (dhawan!doctor) and she couldn’t WAIT to see his face when Yaz betrayed him.

Yet she was still playing the role of O, so what did she do? paid attention to Yaz in a way the doctor hadn’t and Yaz RESPONDED.

(also can you just IMAGINE this being whittaker!master and yaz ugh i’m just perishing at the thought)

and then FINALLY..... the plane scene™️ and this small moment of realisation from Yaz which tbh is probably canon as well as being part of this au and that is her realising “oh shit i was attracted to this person that’s bad and i kinda liked it??” (though in canon she probably didn’t like it)

Then we have THIS line. (which lets be real is crucial to this au.)

So after everything that happened to Yaz in the kasaavin’s dimension, that niggling bit of darkness in her that’s starting to creep in, whittaker!master says this to her:

and now maybe, that’s a little appealing to yaz? because that dimension made her feel like was dead but this ‘best enemy’ of the doctor’s makes her feel alive.

and then she brings these fuckers back:

and just look at Yaz’s face here. she is still terrified by those things and the last thing she would ever want is to go back to that dimension because she already feels different and its scary and she doesn’t want it to get worse but something about the master and the way she is controlling what scares is a little bit magnetising?? and Yaz has no idea how to feel about that.

and that terrifying realisation that she’s STILL attracted to whittaker!master after everything forces Yaz to suppress it all. because she is PC KHAN AND SHE IS GOOD..... right?

so that’s why she wants more from the doctor now, just to know a little bit more about him. even something as simple as just visiting his home. except it’s not simple because we know exactly what the master has done and why the doctor won’t take them there but because they won’t open up that’s when the tension between the doctor and the fam throughout s12 begins.

i mean ngl she looks proper disappointed in the doctor’s response here and in this au that’s because she wanted more, needed more because she’s not getting anything from the doctor and that one thought in the back of her head is saying “but you could get everything from the master”

and in this au the tension between the doctor and Yaz would be worse than ever because this darkness is in her and its festering and creeping in worse and worse and it’s already too late for Yaz because the master has seen it and she is far from done with Yaz.

so when they next see each other, the tension between them is explosive because whittaker!master knows Yaz’s dirty little secret.

that she wants more. but not from the doctor.... from the master. and she’s more than willing to give it, it just turns into something the master didn’t quite anticipate herself.

AND THEN IT’S ALL A SLIPPERY SLOPE FROM THERE because once yaz has betrayed the doctor and the master has enjoyed every second of it she thought she could just discard yaz and move onto the next game but oh no. things have gotten far too complex between them for that.
