we took a bus to like 4 towns over, did christmas shopping, walked the length of a long ass beach, walked through a massive public reserve, got lost in an area we thought was residential but it turned out it was just giant posh boatsheds, then walked several kilometers downriver home. and my whole body hurts so bad but i had a really great day so im happy. we saw soooo many oystercatchers and black swans and shags (including spotted shags!! rare guys) and TWO herons and ducks and a bajillion seagulls and some yappy little dogs and some sheep fragments and loads of tui and assorted finches and it was great i love going outside

#goodnight everybody!!! #the boatsheds area felt fucking surreal until we figured out what was up #it was this street of tall elaborately decorated houselike buildings with weird skinny proportions #and they had little gardens and barbeques and patios and things #but no windows #so they looked like houses from a distance but Wrong in subtle ways #also i dug up some vintage glass bits and an old tile fragment with italian(?) on it from the rivermouth #theres this area thats at the bottom of a cliff and its got a ton of old building rubble and loads of ceramic/glass fragments #some of the rubble was FANCY too like posh bricks and elaborate molding and like victorian shit #and some of the pottery bits looked real old too but i dont know enough about it to date them #my glass bits are likely old though theyre very thick and sort of opalescent and milky? i can't figure out what theyre from #and the tile looks posh too but it might be more recent im not sure #ANYWAY even though i got sunburnt and really sore and tired i had a cool time #and ill post pics of my treasures tomorrow in case some of yall are interested
