Male character: [commits awful crimes including genocide because his feelings got hurt]

Fans: oooh so nuanced and interesting! He did the right thing tbh everybody liked that :)

Female character: [commits crimes, NOT including genocide*, that are bad but like WAY less awful when given context/motivation]

Fans: she's evil and if you like her you are bad and dumb and i hate you. Also she committed genocide

#yes this is about #princess bubblegum #my biggest pet peeve is the mischaracterization of pb like #yes she is ethically corrupt and morally wrong on many occasions #no she does not serve the narrative purpose of a villain #yes she has a sketchy past #no she does not try to make excuses for it #in fact we see her rethink things and call them mistakes or bad decisions on many occasions #she also did not lead finn on #nor were any of her crimes committed in war #nor dud she commit genocide #mass murder is not genocide and ethical crimes are not war crimes pls stop with the buzzwords #and yes male character in question is er*n j*ager #who actually did want to wipe out a whole race because of a grudge #pb isnt morally correct at all but shes not a giant baby who commits murder over personal grudges either #all of her bs is about protecting her family from a world that would eat them alive #she also latched onto these corrupt methods as survival skills in childhood #when she lived in a world with no rules in which everyone was busy screwing each other over #she was a child with no example to follow except the crazies around her who wanted her dead
