#canitellyou if you’re going to have pub food, you might as well have it at @audleypublichouse. The pub classics were delicious with produce from their farm in Somerset and other local farmers. The bar is a hive of activity with everyone ordering pints for lunch. Surrounded by the #beauty & #artistry of my vast collection of #handstitched @hermes #crocodileskin #birkinbags #tiaras & #Regency fans, my mind wanders back to the 1660's when Mayfair was first built. I picture the frenetic excitement as Mayfair arose from the KillingFields where thousands of eccentrics were slain because lovers & creators of fine-clothes jewellery, art & music & fine-food & alcohol were deemed "papist" by #Cromwell. Mayfair arose a #Phoenix of luxury from the ashes of #Cromwell's #pogrom on #beauty & #mountstreetmayfair (where I've spent my life & raised my family) was home to #artists & #artisans #carpenters #cabinetmakers in 1660' as #mansions of never before seen, opulence & glass-fronted shopping arcades selling exotic goods arose. Growing up in Mayfair- centre of #bespoke clothing & accessories, My #hats & #shoes were always #handmade. I remember my shoe & hat #lasts atop my desk at school. Clothing & accessories were considered works of art, handcrafted to give expression to the poetry of daily life & passed down from generation to generation in a genuflection of respect for the artisans who hatoiled to make it. When deciding on any purchase the question was, "Would you want to frame it & hang it or stand it on a library shelve in 20 years?" If the answer was no it was not art but merely another object in a world already overcrowded with objects. One doesn't give up on hand crafted shoes. My crocodile & lizard-skin shoes were made 30 years ago & recently re-blocked & rebuilt as 1 inch heels rather than the original 3 inch heels of my youth. They still look splendid on a bookcase. Many of my clothes were my mother's a few my great-great grandmothers. Each & every tiara, fan, bespoke-jacket or hand-crafted shoe or millinery confection resplendent & regal with the artistry & experience of my life. All redolent with the lingering memories of my bespoke scents evoking the romance of bluebell woods & balls, the thrill of equestrian events, tinkling laughter of tea-parties & outdoor-theatre & opera, the pomp & ceremony of palace visits & languorous loveliness of punting picnics along the Isis in Oxford, or croquet parties in Mayfair Squares. As a founding member of the Royal Academy on Piccadilly she introduced classical painting to England. There was a time when every second house on Bond St had a wall or ceiling painted by her & to this day her works are oft discovered behind panels in St James's & Mayfair I'm awaiting my own discovery in my flat on #MountStreetMayfair (at Mount Street Mayfair)
