Notes on Moodswings In This Order based on DPR Ian's Video Documentary
DISCLAIMER: These notes were taken directly from the video Christian posted when the album came out. I do put some of my own thoughts and theories in here though, and I welcome all of your thoughts!
- Mito’s introduction was “So Beautiful”
- Depicted him in his darkest form
- DPR Ian constantly battled with what felt like a second individual inside of him, named him Mito
- “Dope Lovers” depicts his struggles with heartbreak, when he was at his lowest he tended to push people that loved him away
- “Dope is also associated with a drug. So in a way, it’s such an addicting love that you can’t stray away from it and at the end of the day you just keep coming back for more” - DPR Ian
- “No Blueberries” was made when he was in a time of great anger
- Made about people you don’t associate yourself with, you’re not familiar with them, and no matter what you do you can’t connect with them
- He associated that feeling with blueberries
- “Running away from the Blueberry monster”
- “Nerves”, he did a lot of bad things in life, he regrets a lot of his decisions and this song expresses that.
- “Scaredy Cat” is a song inspired by his fear of “everything, almost”.
- There is another character living INSIDE of Mito, a character that is always scared, yet curious
- Curiosity killed the cat
- “Welcome to the Show”, Ian welcomes us to his show, yet there will be a lot of anxiety, doubt, and fear in it. But it is him, it is who he is.
- The entrance for the acceptance of who Mito is
- In my opinion, this song hits the hardest because Mito is asking us to stay for the show, even though there are so many ugly parts of him, so many negative emotions, and then proceeds to welcome us. It is such a sad song - “I want you to close all the doors, just leave me alone. I tried to hide it, I’m scared of what’s next, I still don’t know where to go.” But then he tells us “You’re welcome to the show”.
- “No Silhouette” imagines Mito ragged after being through his entire journey
- “He’s like a superhero, but with every up, comes a down”
- He is coming down from his prime, and as he comes down, he returns to IAN. So IAN is another character in the story. He starts to understand why he needs Mito.

I find everything a nightmare
Sometimes I know you don't care
But I feel like I'm disappearing in a hole
And nobody will know
Nobody will go
Sitting in my room alone
And nobody will know
Nobody will go
Why does no one understand
When I say I am just afraid?
Why does no one lend a hand
When I say I will drift away?
