Her are some beach games that we played yesterday along with the usual digging, splashing, running & jumping. The first we found smooth rocks and made a jumping/ stepping maze. Using lots of gross motor skills. We try to do lots of work on uneven surfaces as Roo has hyper mobility and we need to strengthen all those muscles. The beach is a dream for uneven surfaces! Also lifting the stones helps to build hand strength which will help him with fine motor skills like writing when he’s ready. We collected limpet shells and he did some threading/balancing the shells on the sticks. They were all different sizes so he really had to think about it. We built some dams in the stream and talked about water flow and how we could change it. While he had an ice cream I took a few mindful minutes to make a fish out of stones. It’s things like that that give me some downtime while still being there. Engaging on a task but chatting away when he wanted to.
