Repost via @missdhutch ・・・ When I first started meditating, I wasn’t able to ‘do it right’. My mind is like an IMAX movie, multi-stage music festival, alternative art show, hobbit shire, and MMA cage fight all happening at once. The constant chatter makes it really hard to listen to the whispers of the Universe 🤪 Then I discovered the Labyrinth walk (every second Friday at Grace Cathedral), and that’s when this meditation thing all clicked for me. Navigating the path keeps the mind focused. The repetition of loops and turns relaxes anxiety’s grip. Before I know it I am in the zone of quiet and still awareness. That is when the magic happens. There is a flow of energy with the other walkers. Sometimes everyone moves in harmony. Sometimes there are stops and starts and un-graceful transitions. There are glimmers of recognition and knowing as you pass some, heaviness and discomfort as you pass others. Sometimes another’s journey derails or pauses yours. Sometimes you walk in parallel with another soul and your journeys align in delightful synchronicity. We all hit the twists and turns at different times, but are ultimately all headed the same direction. We are all seeking answers 🌀💫🌀💫 - ✨🙎🏽‍♀️✨ In the frame is a luminous parallel soul who has been walking the twists and turns of this life’s journey with me for over 30 years now. #Repost @missdhutch ・・・ The subject of this photo interested me for all of its shades of grey. This ‘Dharma Mural’ is an inspiring and stunning work of art by renowned muralist Rigel Juratovac (aka #crayone) *and* it was commissioned by arguably the most cold-hearted landlord in the Mission, Kaushik Dattani. The dirty empty lot that allows the mural to be visible was once a neglected low-income apartment building that burned down in 2015 killing one and leaving 65 homeless. This prime location remains undeveloped as the lawsuits drag on. The subjects of the mural are inspiring religious leaders and social activists who brought about great change with their actions and words, *and* they were also human beings with shadow sides just like anyone else. That doesn’t take away from the good they accomplished. Life is like that. It is not all black and white. Virtue and evil. Beauty and anguish. Light and shadow.
