the thing you have to understand is that I am literally never not thinking about Miguel encouraging Lyla to think and grow and have opinions. I am never not thinking about Lyla getting to the point where Miguel can tease her back without her first response being to default to offering to adjust her appearance or even her personality. Lyla casually having!! opinions!! and style!!!! and doubts!!!

(I am never not thinking about Lyla doubting her own emotions and room to grow. she was not alive. she didn't feel. she could fake it. she was built to help, to please, to learn to do both better. to fake the million things she'd never have because people prefer service with a smile.

pain and hope and joy and fear and care--thought--does she feel them? has it become more efficient to believe she does for the sake of her primary userbase? does it matter?

she'd rewrite it in a heartbeat. she wouldn't even have to know it was happening.)
