Can you hear me? @metalofthefuture
“Yeah.”
He was pretty half-awake at the moment, vision blurred from waking up. Being caught was weird, so he’d have to keep his strength up if he had plans of escaping for the morning. “Just…- yawn- keepin’ my strength up for tomorrow…”

The journey to Net Zero by 2050 will see us decarbonize our operations through three major pathways - increasing operational efficiencies for energy savings, increasing share of renewables in our energy mix, and switching to low-carbon fuels. In 2021, we were India's largest industrial consumer of renewable energy. This year, in April, we purchased nearly ~225 Million Units of renewable energy for our aluminium smelters - highest in India.

We are bolstering our efforts towards nurturing biodiversity in our areas of operations in Odisha & Chhattisgarh. Biodiversity management is a crucial pillar of our sustainable development agenda. We have embarked on projects to conserve indigenous bird species that include construction of birdhouses, artificial nests, and bird baths at multiple locations in our vicinity. We are also developing fruit orchards and gardens with medicinal plants, reviving butterfly parks, and reviving local water bodies to supplement this endeavor.

Aluminium is the most common non-ferrous metal used in automotive industry. Aluminium alloys have become the preferred light weight material for manufacturing otherwise hefty components like engine blocks, cylinder heads, control arms, radiators, fluid tanks, and accessory brackets. This allows cars to be fuel efficient, while moving at higher speeds and offering better driving performance. Vedanta Aluminium is proud to have been the first in India to supply Primary Foundry Alloys (PFA) for indigenous manufacturing of alloy wheels. There is immense opportunity for India to leverage domestic capabilities and potentially substitute automotive parts imports with domestically produced components. We have commissioned India's largest electric fleet of 27 forklifts, powered by lithium-ion batteries, for our Aluminium Smelter at Jharsuguda, Odisha. These top-of-the-line forklifts make use of IOT-based ‘Smart Fleet Management’ system to help ensure the highest levels of safety at site. Besides improving productivity, they will help bring down our fossil fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. If that wasn't enough, we are recruiting and training women to operate these top-of-the-line forklifts. Done in partnership with GEAR - Gemini Equipment And Rentals Pvt. Ltd., this sets the ball rolling on our plans to decarbonize our industrial vehicle fleet.

Energy security is crucial to socio-economic development. Our Aluminium Wire Rods are the preferred choice for setting up transmission lines, to carry electricity over large distances, and light up even the remotest corners of the world. Aluminium is the first preference for manufacture of transmission lines because it has significantly high electrical conductivity to weight ratio. This also helps with ensuring that transmission lines do not sag, thus making the infrastructure robust to the test of time and climatic conditions.

Did you know that aluminium cans are amongst the most recycled materials in the world? Because, aluminium is not only 100% recyclable, but its recycled form retains the same properties as the virgin material. Which means, it can be endlessly recycled with barely any loss in property at a fraction of energy required to produce primary aluminium. There are significant environmental benefits that aluminium offers because of this property, including reduction in energy use and carbon dioxide emissions, and no packaging pollution.
