Okay now that origins is out here's my bet on exactly what's going to happen when the physical release edition comes out:
So Maina plus was the upgraded version of Sonic Mania that was a physical release (but they also later released the base game in a physical edition without the ys contents later as well which????) that came with Mighty and Ray, right? But they also included the Plus contents as DLC for the base game as well. So my prediction is maybe in like a year or so Origins is going to get that same/similar treatment when it gets its physical release and Sega will use this as am excuse to make Amy and Metal Sonic playable.
Do I agree with this decision? No not really, at bare minimum Amy should've been playable given how prominent she appeared in Origins marketing and in their trailer cutscenes. But unfortunately the decision definitely makes sense given Sega is... Sega, their decisions especially with Sonic tend not to be the best.
Tldr: So there's definitely probably going to be some sort of upgrade version of Origins at some point down the road like what they did with Mania and I can 100% see both Amy and Metal being playable in that version of the game but probably also as dlc for the base game that just released as well 🤷🏻‍♂️ because still that character selection screen still very much has space for two more spots.

I dunno why, but Sonic Mania Adventures... Feels to me it's nothing but silly and cute moments. Maybe I'm a bit spoiled by the story-driven stuff of yesteryear, but I find Maina Adventures to be a one-and-done thing. Like BOOM is, now that I think of it.
