A man serving a life sentence in Texas for continuous sexual abuse of a child was captured Monday after nearly a day on the run, law enforcement officials said.
Robert Yancy Jr., 39, was taken into custody in Matagorda County, southwest of Houston, just after 8 a.m. local time, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
He will now face felony escape charges, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice said.
Yancy had been last seen on Sunday afternoon around 3:38 p.m. local time before his escape. He was in the Clemens Unit in Brazoria, Texas, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice said in a release.
Matagorda County is only about 30 miles southwest of Brazoria.
Yancy was wearing a black beanie and a black sweater at the time of his escape, law enforcement had said. He was in a white 2021 Nissan Versa, license plate DNR9145, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice said.
Authorities told the public to call law enforcement and not approach the inmate if he was spotted.
Yancy was given a life sentence without parole in 2022 for continuous sexual abuse of a child, according to inmate records.
His mother, Lenor Priestle, was arrested later Sunday night on a felony warrant during a traffic stop around 8:25 p.m local time, Waco ABC affiliate KXXV reported, citing Victoria police. She has been charged with facilitating his escape, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Authorities said she was driving the white Nissan Versa.
Another man, Russell Williams, was also arrested and charged with criminal intent to escape for helping Yancy, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Was looking at xkcd 1407 (link: https://xkcd.com/1407/large/) and I noticed something fascinating: Some of the older tornadoes aren't named.
In Georgia (the state, obviously, not the country), there's a few hurricanes for 1940 and 1949 which aren't named, and Florida also has some old ones which are unnamed (1928, 1935, 1946), and if you look around, it's not like there was only one hurricane every year. Florida has a "1926 III" and Alabama's coast has a "1926 II".
Plus, some hurricanes older than 1950 get named (Texas has Galveston 1915 and Matagorda 1942). It is rarer though, those are the only ones before 1950 I can find.
Fascinating little piece of history. Why were some older tornadoes named? What specific event caused all tornadoes from 1950 onward to get named? (Or is Esther 1951, Edna 1954, Connie 1954 coincidental, and the naming is required starting 1955?) Was it some disaster we don't see here (west coast?) Or did Congress just make a new department and it took them a few years to decide to force all hurricanes be named? (I'll note ww2 ended '45)
Anyway, I just wanted to put that out there. Maybe some historian will come in and answer these questions? (That said, xkcd 2129 applies if someone comes in with incorrect information.)

Texas Specks (Salty Toothy Trout)
In 2019, I spent a few winter months pursuing Texas redfish on the fly from North Padre Island eastward over to Matagorda Bay. I caught plenty of small puppy drum blind casting into murky water, but the goal of sight fishing to big reds in clear water was elusive. I did finally find those fish at the end when the water was warmer, but more often I found a speck on the end of my line. According…

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- We've got our eyes on a Pacific storm currently spinning off the West Coast. That storm system should bring us widespread rain ahead of Christmas Day, and a small chance of rain already enters the picture on Wednesday.Clouds moved in overnight keeping us a little warmer this Wednesday morning with temperatures in the low 50s. Temperatures in most neighborhoods will clear the 70 degree mark in the afternoon under a partly sunny sky. Rain showers are possible especially west of Houston as a channel of moisture lifts northward from Matagorda Bay.Which days before Christmas are we most likely to get rain?Friday and Sunday (Christmas Eve) still jump out as the wettest days before Christmas. A small chance for showers continues on Thursday as a jet stream disturbance approaches. That's good enough for a 20% chance of rain at this time. While the main storm system we're expecting this weekend will still be hundreds of miles away on Friday, the jet stream disturbance blowing in ahead of it will bring widespread showers, and we've increased Friday's rain chance to 70%. With that disturbance moving away on Saturday, rain chances will come down to 40%. The main Pacific storm system will track through on Sunday, bringing an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms for Christmas Eve. The rain on Sunday could be heavy enough to impact travel plans, and we cannot rule out the possibility of severe weather at this time. What are the chances that rain sticks around for Christmas Day?Most of the rain should be gone by Christmas Day if all goes according to plan, but we're leaving with a 30% chance of rain for now. There will still be jet stream disturbances rolling through, and if there is enough moisture left behind after Sunday's storms, rain showers are possible. Will it be cold for Christmas like last year?Nope. Last year it was 26 degrees on Christmas morning. This year we're predicting the low to be 57 degrees on Christmas morning with a high around 70. Cooler air is expected to flow in after Christmas to bring more seasonal temperatures ahead of the New Year. Average highs are in the mid 60s with average lows in the mid 40s at this time of year.HOUSTON RADAR MAPS:Southeast TexasHoustonHarris CountyGalveston CountyMontgomery/Walker/San Jacinto/Polk/Grimes CountiesFort Bend/Wharton/Colorado CountiesBrazoria/Matagorda CountiesHave weather tips, videos, and photos? Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of new blindness in adults. In most cases, vision loss from diabetes can be prevented or restored if caught in time. Patients are wise to have routine exams with treatment before their vision becomes blurry. Patients with diabetes should be examined at least once a year. Laser eye surgery is often needed to prevent vision loss. And clear vision does not mean that the disease is absent.
