I mean after being married to your ungrateful and unfaithful college sweetheart for 20 years, you’d need counselling too! Wes met married, angry, frustrated and hurt Melody, the one that took her frustrations out on those around her (refer to book 1). 2 years later this Melody, is light, happy, flexible 🤸🏾‍♀️and coming into her own. And guess what??? Doc likes what he sees 😌 and he’s not alone. This is a sticky situation Honey and they don’t know how to address the situation. I mean it’s nothing a quick trip to Vegas can’t get your mind off 👀 (Usher Las Vegas residency ftw). I know y’all, it’s sounding unethical but I was loving this forbidden romance! Wes and Melody have amazing chemistry, I could see exactly why they drew near to each other. I found myself blushing and feeling giddy while reading this book! Wes and Melody are a perfect balance of sexy and fun, their silliness is top tier! A key message you can take from this story is to never settle/accept less than you deserve! It doesn’t matter your age, it’s never too late to start over and find happiness elsewhere! Melody’s ex husband has a lot of nerve 😒. I’m so glad Melody found someone that appreciates her kitty and her kidneys.The epilogue is sweet, I live for a full circle moment! Marlee Rae round of applause 👏🏽(Beyoncé voice)! The family dynamics were everything as usual! It’s obvious the amount of time and dedication Marlee puts into her stories, it always shines through on page. I love this literary world she’s created.

Brown’s Sugar (SHE iS #1) by Marlee Rae is about sugar enthusiast/ co-proprietor of SHE iS spice shop Tonya James and aerospace engineer Andre ‘Dre’ Brown. As y’all know my BBF @shadesnpages is obsessed with Marlee Rae so it’s a no-brainer that I picked up her latest release immediately. This is the second book I’ve read by Ms Marlee Rae and once again she did not disappoint! Tonya and Dre are family friends, they’ve never been super close, but an awkward date allows Dre to come to Tonya’s rescue. From the moment they bump into each other the chemistry is evident. They’re attracted to each other and intrigued by one another. The banter is fun and flirty. Tonya was cracking jokes on this man 😂 (she just like me fr)! They were enjoying each other’s company so much she forgot all about her disastrous date. I love that this couple is in their 40s and the romance is both fresh and it’s exciting. I really enjoyed Dre’s perspective because he’s in his late 40s and he’s never been in love before, so to see him fall in love is special. That man did not know which way was up and which way was down! Tonya had him down bad! His inner thoughts about him being attracted to her and liking her company, he was shocked that he was so into her. Dre was like a teenage boy falling in love for the first time. This bachelor fell hard and fast! He didn’t stand a chance. He was so possessive (but in a good way), he found his one good thing, and he was not about to lose her. He loved cooking for her and driving her around. He was very present in the relationship. He was also very thoughtful with his gifts and his time. I appreciated Tonya’s maturity, she has a great mindset, and you can tell that she learned a lot in her previous relationships by the way she approached this new one. Tonya isn’t afraid to set boundaries and keep her options open. She knows Dre is great guy, but she also knows her value and that she is the prize! The communication between Tonya and Dre is grown and sexy 🫦. Individually, and as a couple they were the full package. The family dynamics are amazing, I have to go back and read the catalog! Overall, I love this book and see myself rereading it often! The epilogue is so sweet, this book is the epitome of Brown Sugar! I cannot wait for book 2, Melody James needs some love because her attitude 👀…. Thank God for growth!

P.s. High school freshman Tonya had a crush on high school senior Dre 🥰 So they were 30 years in the making!
