Continuing the weekly Burn Notice watch with my friend, it was so weird to hear Sam calling Madeline by her full name through the early part of season two. I'd never paid much attention to it before, but this time I was wondering when it would change. And the answer is 2x06, when Michael has Sam stay at her house to protect her, and by the end of that ep, she's Maddie. Which makes perfect sense. He likes her now, so she's upgraded to nickname privileges and she'll never be Madeline again :-) It's lovely attention to detail.

I think my favorite part of Burn Notice was that time some feds were after Michael, and they were questioning his mom to find out where he was, and one of the guys got frustrated that Madeline wasn’t telling them anything and he said that she had no idea who her son was and that Michael had tried to kill him. And Madeline just goes “If Michael wanted to kill you, you’d. Be. Dead.”

Another Burn Notice deleted scene in the DVD extras that was full broadcast quality comes from the season five finale, Fail Safe and it’s lovely. Michael in his mother’s garage assembling and checking over a sniper rifle, and they have a moment of real connection when he explains that all the years he didn’t keep in touch, he was trying to protect them both from the scenario he’s trapped in now. She says she finally gets that, in a way she didn’t before.

And then, because she’s exactly that tuned in to her son, she says, ‘Next time you want to talk, you can just say so. You could do the gun thing at your place just as well as at mine.’ Madeleine being simultaneously sharp and sympathetic and snarky is gold 💗

I see why Matt Nix was reluctant to drop it. It’s such a brilliant character moment that shows exactly how far their relationship has come since Michael returned to Miami. The streaming sites definitely have their issues, but the fact that each episode is allowed to be the length it should be and not constrained to precisely 42 minutes, regardless of what has to be lost along the way, that’s one of the big wins in how TV has changed.

In many of the early Burn Notice shots of Michael’s loft, you won’t see the nearby NW 5th St Bascule Bridge as the old bridge got demolished and replaced by a new one, which is seen in later seasons of the show. UniVista bought the 4 story office building for $10.2 million. The new building is now the HQ of UniVista Insurance and construction was finished in 2016. Today, there is not much left over from Michael’s loft as the building got demolished and a new office building was erected. Michael’s loft was located along the Miami River and across from Spring Garden Point Park. There is a whole guide with all the filming locations of Burn Notice with incredible details. It was rather a great coincidence that I was here and had this idea one weekend to see the actual locations for myself. I didn’t come to Miami just to “spy” on these two locations. Some of them are easy to find and recognize, some others are harder but two of them show up over and over again. One is Michael’s Loft and the house of his mother Madeline, which is just a short walk away. You can fill a whole book with filming locations.

The TV show is set in Miami and was filmed at many locations in Miami, Miami Beach, and neighboring cities as well as the Everglades and the Highway to Key West. With no connections left to the government, he relies on everyone still talking to him like his old friend Sam, his ex-girlfriend and former IRA explosives expert Fiona, and his mother Madeline Westen. He has no resources and uses his skills as a CIA operative to find out who burned him. It is the story of a burned (discredited/terminated) spy. One of my favorite shows was Burn Notice (Ended in 2013).

I argue that Ampugasa's transformation corresponds to a pattern of Inka imperialism in Huarochirí that enshrined rather than erased the collective ritual practices through which the people of Huarochirí maintained a broad regional identity. My analysis shows that pre-Inka houses were ritually closed, directly connected to the site's ritual core, and remained part of the everyday life experience of people in the settlement. Results from excavations in the site of Ampugasa in Huarochirí (Lurín valley, Lima, Peru) show that pre-Inka residential spaces (patio-groups) were replaced by enclosures with a single access to an internal patio for domestic activities. Most archaeological research on the impact of Inka imperialism at the domestic level centers on the intrusion of Inka-style buildings into pre-Inka domestic settlements as transforming the experience of domestic life and actively hindering interhousehold interaction. This indicates that frontier dynamics based on fluid interactions across different ecological zones and regional sociopolitical movements played a crucial role in this long-term social process. The earliest phase shows close relation with highlands traditions, whereas the influence of tropical rain forest patterns intensified in later phases alongside the continuation of local pottery traditions. The five-staged ceramic sequence from the late eighteenth to late twelfth century cal BC displays specific features of this development, including radical changes in vessel type over several centuries and connections with other pottery traditions. Our new high-resolution chronology of Wairajirca pottery is based on stratigraphic excavation data, a detailed ceramic typology, and a Bayesian analysis of the radiocarbon date from the Jancao site. However, the lack of fine-grained pottery and radiocarbon datasets has handicapped comparative studies’ attempts to track in detail its early development process. He was initially stationed in the field, but his risky and impulsive tactical maneuvers led to his being demoted to desk duty.This article presents a high-resolution chronology of Wairajirca pottery in the Huánuco basin, which has been identified as a frontier region between the Andean highlands and the Amazonian rain forests: its pottery is known for having mixed features from both areas.
