An original discovery of Messier, the Gumball Globular contains about 200,000 stars, most of which are low-mass stars. It's believed that the Gumball passed through the Milky Way and was robbed of its high-mass stars, leaving behind the low-mass stars.
Located only a few thousand light years from M10, Admiral William Smyth described it as "A fine rich globular cluster, between the right hip and the elbow of Ophiuchus, with a cortège of bright stars, and many minute straggling outliers."
