The Practice of Lyengar Yoga

O asana não é algo estático. Não se trata de transformar uma pessoa viva em uma estátua de pedra. Pelo contrário, segundo In Iyengar, a essência de um asana é acima de tudo um movimento constante, forte e equilibrado, um processo que não termina assim, mas é realizado em paz. 
Quando olhamos as imagens nos livros de yoga, tendemos a pensar que o que vemos na imagem é idêntico ao asana. Mas o que alguém vê em uma imagem nunca é uma posição no verdadeiro sentido da palavra. É simplesmente uma abreviação da imagem. 
Uma foto tirada em um breve momento. O que é realmente um processo constante de posicionamento e reposicionamento. Do ponto de vista do praticante, não é externo (como um objeto percebido de fora), é apenas o ato de passar por uma posição. 
A única questão que se coloca agora é: como é estruturado este processo de execução de asanas? Esta é a resposta na próxima parte da definição de lengar:
2. Asana é um processo de posicionamento e reposicionamento.
O termo posicionamento e reposicionamento define a particularidade do processo que constitui a essência do ásana. Ambos são de particular importância na filosofia de lyengara asana. 
A postura, ou posicionamento real, não é a expressão artificial de um pensamento ou emoção, como definido por Gore, mas o posicionamento, ou realmente estar em uma posição, é um ato. 
A postura consiste em um corpo finito e uma posição corporal representada pela adoção de um asana específico (Yoga Tree. 54).
A palavra "descanso" é usada de uma maneira particularmente incomum. Portanto, este descanso tranqüilo significa retornar à posição. A posição já está pensada e trabalhada.
