"His Radiancy's hands made a convulsive gripping motion, and then he let them fall. Ludvic gestured them back. He slid careful hands under his Radiancy's shoulders and knees, then stood with one smooth motion."

He was distant as his attendants bathed and dressed him. He was always distant, motionless save when movement was required, but today his distance was not a retreat. In all of Ludvic's long observations, his lordship did not anticipate; he endured. But today he was waiting. Patient—he was always patient—but waiting.
Happy Groundhog Day! An outside POV companion fic to my timeloop story Friday Keeps Coming Next. 6k, no warnings.

Read Lays of the hearth fire it’s a great series.
It’s complicated for me to describe so I’m just yoinking the blurb of first book
An impulsive word can start a war.
A timely word can stop one.
A simple act of friendship can change the course of history.
Cliopher Mdang is the personal secretary of the Last Emperor of Astandalas, the Lord of Rising Stars, the Lord Magus of Zunidh, the Sun-on-Earth, the god.
He has spent more time with the Emperor of Astandalas than any other person.
He has never once touched his lord.
He has never called him by name.
He has never initiated a conversation.
One day Cliopher invites the Sun-on-Earth home to the proverbially remote Vangavaye-ve for a holiday.
The mere invitation could have seen Cliopher executed for blasphemy.
The acceptance upends the world.
Its fucking great
I am not asking.
Read it

[chinhands] Your turn! Tell me something about the timeloop fic that I don’t know. What do other people in the household besides Ludvic think on the days when they figure it out or are told about it? What fun activities does Kip do besides going to the theater and reading? Or whatever else you want to talk about (or another fic!)
Gosh, is there anything about timeloop fic I know that you don't? Hmm... okay, here's something which may or may not make it into Ludfic and which is relevant to the chapter I'm posting tomorrow.
Most days, Kip leaves the Imperial Apartments for lunch at noon
Ludvic also gets off shift at noon. Depending on the conversations he overheard that morning, he either (A) has already decided he wants to talk to Kip and give him his passphrase, (B) will go back to the barracks and think about it, and then probably decide to do the same as A, or (C) neither, and he won't seek Kip out that day
Even in Scenario A, by the time he goes down to the barracks to change (he's not going to go chasing Kip down in full guard panoply, that's asking for trouble), Kip is already long gone. So in either A or B, he's going to have to track him down.
The most reasonable place to look is the nearest refectory, which is where Kip usually goes for lunch, but most days by the time Ludvic gets there, Kip is already gone. (Very occasionally Ludvic is fast or Kip is slow, in which case Ludvic will wait outside the refectory for Kip to come out.)
If Kip is already gone, Ludvic will casually ask around the refectory to find out if anyone saw which way he went. This is much more likely to succeed if Kip almost gets whacked in the head by Tabor's gesticulations, drawing attention to Kip just as he's on his way out the door.
And that is the reasoning behind this line in tomorrow's chapter:
He did not seek out Cliopher every day, nor even most days, but often enough. Cliopher had discovered, through unintentional trial and error, that Omo was much more likely to trace him to his nook when Cliopher stopped in the refectory to talk to Tabor. Whether that said something about causality, or merely the guard’s tracking skills, Cliopher had no idea.
It's both!
