HAPPY ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF REGAL!

thank you to everyone—and i mean EVERYONE—who ever held interest in this little project of mine. without you guys, i wouldn't have near as much fun!! here's to finishing the story before the summer is over 🥂

@plasma-jane: i hope you don't mind me revamping (haha get it) your handsome vampire sofian in this alternate universe!!! he is instead an elf named luca that.... we will learn more about later (^: thank you for making this sim public--his backstory was SO amazing, but i don't have the vampire pack and well.... i don't think i would do his story justice! so this is somewhat of a "if another couple adopted him at a younger age and became a different person" AU! regardless, all the credit for his good looks go to you!! ❤

[classical music and laughter bounce off the walls]

stranger: Not enjoying the festivities, your majesty?

magdalena: Pardon me...?

s: [in a hushed tone] Try not to look too surprised. It will arouse suspicion, you know.

m: Is that not the appropriate course of action?

m: The pleasure is mine. It seems two of my guests were swept under the rug, and I have finally found them.

l: Oh? Were you looking for us, your majesty?

m: If you are the man who recognized me in my mask... then yes.

l: …[smirks] But how did you recognize me?

m: Hm?

l: I can only assume you saw us wandering the maze and came to investigate. What about me told you that I was the man at the ball, your majesty? …If you do not mind me asking, of course.

m: Simple. I met every other guest in my gardens except you, and none of them fit the description of the man I sought.

l: [embarrassed] Ah, deductive reasoning! How embarrassing of me; I thought perhaps you remembered my voice...

m: I... would not be able to remember a voice I heard in such a short encounter.

l: Quite understandable, your majesty.

m: Not that you have a unmemorable voice!

m: [purses her lips] You are lucky the captain of my guard permitted you this time, even if it is at an unholy hour. I am not to thank.

l: Speaking of… what brings you this far away from the castle this early, your majesty?

m: Going on my morning stroll.

l: Oh? Then, care to join me?

m: Me? Right this moment?

l: [smirks] Yes... Unless you are afraid that I would become the threat people make me to be, then I completely understand.

m: It would not be responsible of me to put my life into your hands.

m: But...

l: But?

m: I have not had a sword fight since I was 18, and yet I am confident that I would win.

m: Is there someone back home that you belong to? Have I robbed your chance at true love?

l: [pats her arm] Do not fret, your majesty. I was no one’s... Now I am yours.

s: Then we tried. That is better than sitting around, waiting for your brother to incite violence the moment the treaty ends.

magdalena: I would have. He is the captain of my guard, after all. A leader must know her people... [smiles] even if it means accidentally stumbling upon them embracing in the halls.

o: And you did not tell me?!

m: I was sworn to secrecy. If an empress is not true to her word, than what good is she?

o: Hmph! So... speaking of love...

m: No, Olette. I told you what our strategy is. Feelings of such nature are not involved.

o: Awe, come now, Maggie. You have to admit that this arrangement is more than convenient for you! He was the only bachelor you were interested in, has the influence to stop another war, and he is handsome.

m: He may be all of those things... but he has agreed to simply be a pawn. After Emperor Antoin makes his next move, we will know which direction the game will be taken. Our charade can only last so long.

o: Or until the charade becomes a reality.

m: Olette, please. You are unnecessarily nurturing a fantasy.

[Luca waves and smiles at the girls, making Magdalena blush]

l: How gracious.

m: … [sighs] Prince Luca, why would you wish to forfeit your title, your wealth, and your power? It is not logical.

l: Empress, it is not logical to assume that everyone wishes for such a title, such wealth, and such power. I was content before my father started this war.

m: Your father was... strategic. He saw the opportunity to have his own empire and took ahold of it.

l: My father was greedy. You do not have to be so forgiving, your majesty. I certainly was not.

m: So you wish to make amends. But why did you think that I would let you?

l: Because it is for the greater good, and that is how you operate. After all, it is why you finally succumbed to marriage, is it not? For your people?

m: …

l: [leans forward] Can I presume that you believe me now?

m: I... am not certain. My guards will escort you to your room. Have a good night, your highness.

l: For it may be my last?

a: No, it is not anyone you know... mostly. You might remember meeting the Empress of Volais as a child, although that was so long ago that I doubt—

l: Of course I remember, Antoin. That was the last good summer before the war.

a: Well, her majesty sent out ball invitations to every region—except ours, of course—for eligible bachelors. It is rather interesting that she make this move... right before the peace treaty ends.

l: You think she is trying to gain another ally.

a: And will be successful. I would like you and Sheridan to attend inconspicuously and identify who our future enemy will be.

s: Why send us when you have so many people at your disposal?

a: Because it is better than Luca wallowing around my palace all day. I am tired of hearing the echo of noble ladies crying when he dismisses them.

l: Then stop telling noble ladies that I am interested, brother!

s: [chuckles quietly]
