Weird thing? I feel like Athena looks like she could be Dee’s sister, and every once in a while when I look away from the screen, Apollo says something and it sounds like Lee, and I briefly forget what I am watching

I found an old BSG one shot on my computer just now, which gave me nostalgia, and now
I have decided
To watch OG battlestar galactica, which I have never seen before
Whether or not I will end up turning this into a drinking game remains to be seen

I like OG Tigh so much better than his successor. He’s compassionate and kind and not a raging dickweed

Camping for a couple days has not given me much time to post about bsg, but it has given me a lot of time to overthink a lot of bsg details
And I need someone to explain the function of “angels” to me. Because I’m not clear on the overall message that their existence is meant to convey.
Cylons clearly know about the angels (eg: hybrids and Sam prophesying Kara’s future), but is that because God is real and the angels are his tools, so the Cylons built their religion around them? Because at the same time... Leoben, who is the one most obsessed with Kara as some kind of magical girl, is visibly horrified when they find Kara’s ship and body on Earth the First, and after that he avoids her, like his whole plan/dream/whatever is crushed by this new reality. So... did he not know she was an angel, and instead thought she was a cylon? Or did he think she was an angel but wasn’t really able to fully comprehend what that meant?
As for these angels themselves, they don’t seem to be aware that they aren’t the “real” or “original” versions of themselves (or maybe they are and I just didn’t get that vibe?). So if they are real beings operating on some real, legitimate cosmic mission from the genuine defining power in the cosmos, what purpose does cluelessness serve? It certainly doesn’t help any of them cope with their eventual realizations (except for the baltar and six who were hallucinations, they seem to have known who they were all along?) I mean Kara is obviously rather fucked up by not knowing who she is or why she had to find her own body. She was fucked up prior to that, just from having the ability to find earth without knowing why or how. So not only does the not knowing do humanity and the cylons a disservice, it does the angel a disservice to, and all the people in their life, because at some point Kara seems to kind of “get it” on some level (which is what allows her to go poof in the end?) and if she gets it then she must, by token, understand that she isn’t really Kara Thrace at all, and that her emotions and motivations are copies of Kara’s. And that, yknow, for the entire year and a half or whatever of her living as Kara, all the people she cared about didn’t know any better either. So... are we as viewers really supposed to view the bsg angels as, like, Great Good Agents of Cosmic Unity or some shit when really they’re just fake versions of people, wreaking havoc on their “own” lives, essentially tricking everyone (and themselves)? I don’t see where the justification for that is written into any of the episodes.
I mean seriously, for fucks sake, the whole “harbinger of death” thing didn’t even happen!!! (Unless you count us humans repeating the cycle a million years later or whatever, which is entirely too big of a stretch to trace back to Kara). And that was angel-Kara’s whole thing, that was the whole point of her: guide everyone to earth and be this harbinger of death. But the fleet survived? And she started getting this prophecy crap (or we started hearing about it, at least) before she was “replaced” by an angel, so if the angels are copies of people, but not the originals, then why would the prophecy be connected early on to Kara “human bitch” Thrace, and not idk Kara “the angel formerly known as Moroni” Thrace or something???
I know the answer to 90% of my confused bsg questions is just “lol the writers didn’t even figure that much out, don’t try too hard” but still

Ok. I’ve decided I will try to muddle through watch s3 ep17, Kara Thrace’s 674th Meltdown (I don’t remember what it’s actually called), but because every Kara-centric episode of this season has been a goddamn miserable nightmare, I’ve decided to make it a drinking game. Because life is for bad choices, I guess. Idk what will go down in this episode, but based on previous bullshit:
drink every time Kara is a bitch to Sam
drink every time Kara is a bitch to Lee
drink for any melodramatic flashbacks
drink if Kara gets into a fistfight
drink for a game of triad or whatever it’s called (space poker)
drink every time Kara makes that annoying half smirk, half pout, open-mouthed-grimace face that most of us queer bitches, for some reason, think is the hottest thing ever
drink if Kara smokes a cigar

Actually, watching that episode with my folks was a trip. The last episode of bsg that we watched together was maybe ep four or five of season 1? So I was over here trying to explain what’s going on in season four like:
“they have this ship, right, and they’re on a mission to find earth because Starbuck keeps like... seeing it in her dreams or something. So now they have this raptor, and she and her husband-“
“her husband? She has a husband?? Where the hell did that guy come from??”
“a different season.”
*about Helo*
“Oh, hey look, this guy finally made it off the planet.”
“Mm. Good for him.”
*About Athena*
“they... don’t seem surprised to see a lot of copies of her. I’m assuming they know she’s a cylon now?”
“Yeah, they do.”
“jeez. Ok.”
*about Sam*
“So he’s a cylon but he didn’t know it, and they all don’t know it either-“
“her husband? He’s a cylon too?”
“Yeah.”
“... that’s too many. There are too many cylons”
*the base ship’s guts/tissue are moving*
“Is there a monster on the ship??? Look at that!”
“No it’s a cylon too, all the cylon ships and things are cyborgs. Or... something.”
“Maybe don’t explain, I give up.”
“Wait. It’s what’s-her-face from ds9”
“What?”
“That one, that the president is talking to.”
“... how did I miss that?”
“pay attention.”

Did I watch battlestar galactica for the weight and the grittiness and the mortal fears? No.
Did I, unbeknownst to me, watch it just to see Lee Adama drunkenly chase a pigeon around his caprica apartment with a broom? Yes
