have you spoken before about why maya was made tranquil and how it was reversed before? 👀 would love to learn more....also would love to hear about her and rylen! first impressions, how they get close, etc. 👐

I have! Tho I think it's somewhere buried in my old posts lol so I'll use this as an excuse for some exposition:

Maya is from the Ostwick Circle. She's always been a ~weak mage and struggled w honing her magic and ability to cast, tho she excelled in potions. It was p obvious to everyone including herself that she wouldn't pass the Harrowing so she chose to become Tranquil.

This becomes a point of contention with her friends (one of them is one of my inquisitors, Gabe Trevelyan), who are heartbroken with her choice, but eventually decide they will be there for her no matter what. When she becomes Tranquil, they take protect her and stay by her side, especially because one of her friends is Lord Otranto's sister, Magda (an oc I made up too), and she uses her family's nobility to make sure nothing bad ever happens to Maya.

When the Circles fell, Maya and her friends were on the run, attempting to find someplace safe as they couldn't get to Antiva to Magda's family. A fade rift spews out some demons, but also spirits, and one passes through Maya and reverses her Tranquility. This experience was A LOT and deserves its own post, as Maya has been a tranquil for 8 or so years by then.

Maya and her friends end up joining the Inquisition when Gabe recruits the mages. Maya, Magda and their friend Langdon decide to join other mages posted to Griffon Wing Keep to help with potion making and healing tents - and that's how they end up at the Western Approach.

Her and Rylen were friends to lovers lol, my fave type of dynamic. He was one of the soldiers who helped escort the group of mages to Griffon Wing Keep. Understandably, Maya was nervous and uneasy and Rylen was especially kind to the group and made them feel at ease. Then, they always saw each other at the Keep, and since Maya is shy, he helped her feel included whenever there was any type of get together or "fun nights" with the staff. They also bond over having siblings they haven't seen in a really long time.

Rylen helps Maya break out of her shell a lil and Rylen finds it easy to be his true self around Maya ❤️
