“Where’d you learn how to do this?” Steve asks, partly to distract himself from the pain, mostly to distract himself from the way Eddie’s ringed fingers glint in the dim light of the Upside Down as he wraps a makeshift bandage around Steve’s waist. He’s kneeling on the dirty ground at Steve’s feet, one of Nancy’s bobby pins dangling from his lips like a cigarette.

“You can thank my dear old dad for this one,” he sing-songs a little meanly as he tightens the bandage.

Pain flares through Steve’s side. He hisses, drags his hands through his filthy hair, wonders if he’s about to faint and crack his skull against Munson’s on the way down. He looks back down at Eddie with a furrowed brow, “Why? Was your dad a nurse or something?”

Eddie snorts. “Yeah, Harrington, he was a nurse or something.”
