#like in wwdits we know vamps have blood in their veins

an unexpected challenge when writing about vampires is that it is really difficult to describe people’s internal and external reactions to stimuli when those people do not have a heartbeat or need to breathe

useless wwdits vampire headcanon/meta post:
vampire hearts do not normally circulate blood--however, if enough blood is imbibed, they can began to beat, albeit at a much slower rate (~20-30bpm). it can be very startling for most vampires & acts almost like an evolutionary discouragement from excess drinking
vampires do not appear in reflections coated w/ silver (i.e., older/antique mirrors). i know that the show makes it apparent that it’s all mirrors... but hear me out: imagine one of the vamps seeing their reflection for the first time in centuries bc they decided to have a nice little snack in a public bathroom. i’m sure they’d scream lmao
when it comes to being invited inside, it doesn’t have to necessarily be a verbal ‘yes.’ for instance, in 1x05 (animal control), laszlo is able to sweep into his neighbor paul’s house as a bat by simply squawking at the window. paul opening the window for him acted as a ‘yes’ in this case. tho my other theories are that either laszlo is skilled enough at hypnotism that he was able to hypnotize his neighbor while in bat form or that he had been invited sometime earlier into the house.
as a side theory, i think that vamps can still be ‘uninvited’ from a house at any point/have their invitation rescinded. of course the vampires would think it to be a very rude gesture, but if you’re in the midst of being eaten in your own house... i imagine saying ‘get the fuck out of my house’ would be a great vampire deterrent lmao & would also explain why hypnosis is often used when breaking & entering into a human’s house
bc van helsing exists in-universe, then that means dracula likely existed as well. i think it would be interesting if dracula (bc he can walk out in the sun in the books) in wwdits was actually a half-vampire to explain why he was able to withstand sunlight. also, in a similar vein, having nandor carry around a bag of al quolaundar soil while traveling could have been another little reference to dracula. stoker implies that vampires need soil/dirt from their burial site to heal/regain power. so it would make sense that nandor would keep soil from al quolanudar on him when he travels since he likely finished his transformation into a vampire & ‘fully died’ while at his palace in al quolanudar (probably from eating one of his servants tbh)
it’s also canon that vampires have ‘dominion’ over animals (2x03 ‘brain scramblies’) which makes it interesting that laszlo has had 2 instances where animals (cats & raccoons) have attacked him. i think it’s fair to say that vampires develop skills at differing rates so my headcanon is that while we all know that nandor is horrible at hypnotism, laszlo’s weakness is communicating w/ animals. nandor likely loved animals as a human so it’s no surprise that he would be good at controlling them as a vampire
we see nandor, colin robinson, & guillermo take a boat to get to simon’s club in 1x04 while laszlo & nadja take a cab. i think this shows that vampires cannot fly across bodies of water, hence why they all use some other mode of transport. i do think that they’d be able to swim/get in the water but like nandor said... no one wants a soggy cape!
