Gale is largely a changed man by the time the epilogue rolls around. He never thought he'd be able to live his life at all after the orb, much less the happy calm STABLE life that he gets after their grand adventure. He was horribly depressed and doing everything he could to try to get his mind off of it with his illusions while isolated in the tower, terrified he would kill those he loved most and the innocent people around him. He genuinely thought that the world was better off without him! Then he gets tadpoled, no day is guaranteed and neither is success, and he gets told by his God that he needs to blow himself up. In the dev notes their are moments where he says what your Tav wants to hear (about how he won't blow himself up, they'll find another way), but he doesn't believe it and still plans to sacrifice himself. And then after he still feels like he needs to try to be better for his love interest, and they're still fighting to save the world. When the child comment comes up, Gale mentions two things: their lack of stability and his belief that he isn't dad material. By the time the epilogue rolls around, Gale has a stable life (even if you choose the adventuring route, because you're together and not in life-threatening danger, because this is all their choice not something forced on them) and he also is a much happier, lighter, loved and hopeful man. He isn't that same depressed man that's desperate to prove himself before his untimely death. Of course there are going to be people that think he would want to have a family with Tav/Durge when you consider that his two objections have now been eliminated. It's different from the poly stuff because for poly he just point blank says a very serious no way around it and unconditional no. People really just have to live and let live. This always comes up immediately after someone posts content in the tag about their Tav starting a family with Gale or someone makes a general hc about dad!Gale and it's starting to get a little tiring. Sorry for ranting in your ask box lol
