I Like You || Kim Junkyu

Description: Junkyu likes you but his insecurities get the best of him

A strangled sound resonated from Junkyu's throat. Jihoon, who was standing next to him whilst talking with Yoonbin, heard the noise. "What the heck?" He questioned, turning to look at Junkyu. He followed his line of vision and spotted him staring at you as you chatted with one of your friends. "If you like her so much, why don't you just talk to her?"

Junkyu's eyes widened as he slammed his locker shut. "Me? Talk to her?! In my dreams!" He laughed. "She's Y/F/N! The prettiest, funniest, and nicest girl in school and I'm just Kim Junkyu."

Whether those things about you were true or not were debatable but, in Junkyu's eyes, they were definitive. "You're not 'just Kim Junkyu'!" Yoonbin exclaimed, smiling. "You're YG trainee Kim Junkyu that will soon be sweeping the nation with your amazing vocals."

Junkyu sighed before looking back at you. "Thanks, Yoonbin, but I'm not enough to impress her."

After school, the boys left for YG to train. They made a small detour for snacks, however, and bumped into you leaving YG as they arrived. "What?" Jihoon asked, confused as you walked passed them.

"Oh!" You exclaimed, turning to them and smiling. "Do you guys know Jang Yunseo?"

Yoonbin nodded. "Yeah, why?" He asked.

You began rummaging through your backpack, pulling out a calculator. "This is his. Can you give it to him for me?"

He nodded absentmindedly, wondering how you knew Yunseo. While you all went to the same school, Yunseo was a year younger and even Yoonbin himself and the other two rarely, if ever, ran into him. You smiled and thanked him as he took the calculator, turning around again and walking off.

The three boys went down to the basement, finding their fellow trainees all in one room. Not all of them were there yet, so they were just waiting. Junkyu immediately went over to Yunseo, grabbing the collar of his shirt. "Okay, Yunseo, I want answers and I want them now," he said. "How do you know Y/N?"

"Junkyu, what are you doing?" Hyunsuk asked, standing up to try and diffuse the situation.

Yunseo, while taken quite off guard, wasn't afraid of Junkyu. "Noona? What about her?" He asked.

Yoonbin held the calculator up, "We ran into her outside and she asked for us to deliver this to you."

Jihoon walked over and released Junkyu's grip from Yunseo's shirt. "Stop being so jealous," he scolded. "It's not his fault you can't go up and talk to her."

A knowing smile spread across Yunseo's face as he realized what was going on. "Wait, Junkyu-hyung, you have a crush on Noona?" He asked, chuckling.

Junkyu's cheeks tinged pink as all the boys began to tease him. The boys that didn't know you wanted to know more about you and what you looked like. "Answer my question," Junkyu said, trying to refocus everyone. "How do you know Y/N?"

"She's my math tutor. I'm awful at fractions."

Yeongue sighed. "Aren't we all?" He joked, causing some of the boys to snicker.

Jihoon snorted. "Wow, Junkyu, you better watch out. You don't want Y/N and Yunseo falling in love over fractions now, do you?" He teased.

“If you like this Y/N girl so much, why not just talk to her?” Seunghun asked, feeling confused as to why Junkyu went to Yunseo instead.

Yoonbin laughed. “We’ve already asked him that,” he informed them all. “He said that he can’t talk to her because she’s too amazing to talk to him.”

Byunggon frowned at this. In fact, all the Treasure A boys frowned at this. They knew Junkyu lacked any self-confidence even though he truly had it all. “Well, if you ask me, she’ll be missing out,” Byunggon said. “Besides, if she’s truly as amazing as you’re making her out to be, why wouldn’t she want to talk to you?”

Haruto nodded his head in agreement. “You shouldn’t like a girl if she isn’t nice to you,” he said, remembering his own mother’s words when he had crushes.

“It doesn’t matter,” Junkyu said, waving them all off. “We’re in the same class and I’ve seen the other guys talking to her and she seems to be perfectly happy. She’ll probably date one of them and live her life. Let’s just focus on the show.”

It was evident that Junkyu was trying to change the subject, so the boys all dropped it to respect his wishes. Still, they wished Junkyu would just take their advice. They knew it was hard for him because he lacked self-confidence, though.

Jihoon, Yoonbin, and Junkyu were goofing off in the hallway when Jihoon tripped and crashed into Junkyu, causing Junkyu’s notebooks and some papers to go flying. Junkyu bent down to pick them up and found another hand helping him. He looked up and saw you, immediately causing his heart to start pounding like crazy and his palms to become sweaty. He turned to look at Jihoon and Yoonbin but found they were gone.

“T-thank you,” he stuttered out, finally mustering up the courage to talk to you.

You smiled, “Of course!” After gathering everything, you handed him the stuff you picked up. “Listen, I’ve been wanting to talk to you but you always seem to disappear when I go to talk to you. With exams coming up, I was wanting to put together a study group at my house and I was wondering if you wanted to come. Jihoon and Yoonbin are welcome, too, and any other friends that you have.”

Junkyu couldn’t believe that you wanted him to study with you. Granted, there would be others, but still. “S-sure, that would be great. I’ll ask Jihoon and Yoonbin and then we’ll have to ask for permission to leave the dorms and possibly miss some practice.”

“Great!” you exclaimed happily. You quickly scribbled your phone number onto a piece of notebook paper, tearing it out and handing it to him. “This is my number. Text me later and I’ll give you my address and the details. Um, my mom will be there but she’ll be spending most of her time babysitting my niece so you can tell that to your managers or whoever. It’s okay if you can’t make it, too.”

He nodded his head. “Okay, I’ll text you later,” he told you. You flashed him another smile before leaving for your tutoring session with Yunseo.

Junkyu rushed outside, finding Jihoon and Yoonbin waiting for him so they could go practice. “So?” Jihoon asked. “What happened?”

Junkyu was still in shock over what happened. “She invited us to a study session and I got her phone number.”

The two boys smiled brightly and Yoonbin slapped his hand on Junkyu’s shoulder. “Dude! That’s awesome!” he exclaimed. “We’re definitely going.”

Upon arriving at YG, Jihoon and Yoonbin happily announced Junkyu’s progress with you. “Okay, I officially approve of Y/N,” Hyunsuk said. “I wasn’t sure before but she seems nice and very considerate and understanding of our trainee situation.”

“I just wish you guys could meet her in person,” Junkyu said. “I think you’d like her even more.”

With this thought in his head, he changed into some better practice clothes since his school uniform wasn’t exactly ideal. About an hour into practice, the boys were all taking a break in the same room. “I’m here!” Yunseo exclaimed, entering the room. The boys were surprised to see he wasn’t alone and Junkyu was especially surprised to see you.

“Y/N!” Jihoon exclaimed, surprised.

You smiled and quickly bowed to everyone. “Hi,” you greeted. “Sorry to intrude. Yunseo had so much stuff with him and I felt bad that he was carrying it by himself, so I wanted to help him.”

Yunseo grinned. “You can just set that bag down, Noona,” he told you. You nodded and set it down.

“So, this is the famous Y/N,” Byunggon said, standing up. Junkyu was shocked and felt his heart stop at the idea of Byunggon exposing him. “We’ve heard great things about your math skills from Yunseo and Jihoon and the other two talk about how kind you are.”

Your cheeks began to tinge pink. “Ah, I’m nothing special,” you said, waving these remarks off. “Anyway, I’m sorry for intruding and I should probably leave before someone else sees me. Junkyu, I really hope that you, Jihoon, and Yoonbin can come to the study session. If anyone else just wants to study with us, you’re more than welcome to come. It was nice meeting you all.”

You bowed one last time before leaving. “Dude, she is so adorable,” Seunghun said. “She’s super kind and sweet, too.”

“I say you just go for it,” Doyoung said. “I think you’ll regret not confessing your feelings.”

“L-let’s just practice,” Junkyu stuttered out, unable to stand the attention any longer.

Junkyu waited nervously after knocking on the door. Jihoon and Yoonbin were chatting comfortably, not feeling nervous like Junkyu. “Hi, guys!” you exclaimed upon opening the door. It was the first time they were seeing you in clothes that weren’t your uniform. Junkyu thought you looked cute in your shorts and T-shirt with a smiley face on it. “Come on in.”

They entered your home, looking around. Bae Jinyoung, Kwon Eunbin, and Hwang Jiwon were already there. “Hey, guys,” Jiwon smiled.

“Mom!” you called out down to the basement. “Everyone is here!”

Within a minute or so, your mother came upstairs holding your three-year-old niece in her arms. “Hi, everyone,” she greeted. “I’m Y/N’s mother, it’s nice to meet you all.”

“It’s nice to meet you too, ma’am,” everyone chorused.

She smiled. “I’ll be downstairs taking care of this little one but feel free to call me up if you need me. There are snacks in the kitchen, so if you feel hungry, help yourselves.”

With that, she went back downstairs. “Your mom is really nice,” Jihoon said.

“And really pretty, so I can see who you take after,” Eunbin complimented, causing you to blush.

Soon, you were all sat in the living room. Somehow, with the help of Jihoon and Yoonbin, Junkyu found himself next to you on your couch with Yoonbin on his other side. Studying wasn’t as quiet as he expected since you were all asking each other for help and about certain subjects. He didn’t mind, though.

After about 45 minutes, you were feeling hungry and parched. “How about a short break for drinks and snacks?” you asked, setting your notebook down.

All of them agreed, letting out sighs as they shut their own books. You ate and drank for a bit before hitting the books again. A few hours went by as you all sat in mostly silent, save for the moments where you asked for clarification about things.

“I think it’s about time we head out,” Jinyoung said. “My mom will have a cow if I’m not home soon.”

You smiled in understanding as the others agreed they should be heading home. You bid them goodbye, except for Jihoon, Yoonbin, and Junkyu, before shutting the door. The three of them stayed behind because Junkyu wanted to help you clean up and Jihoon had to use the restroom.

“Here, let me,” Junkyu said as the two of you were in the kitchen washing the cups. He took the sponge from your hand and began washing for you.

“Thank you. You didn’t have to do this, so I appreciate your help,” you smiled. He smiled back, feeling happy to be alone with you. That was until the next sentence came out of your mouth. “Listen, Yunseo told me that you have a crush on me.”

The sound of him dropping the plastic cup into the sink made you jump. You looked at him and saw he was blushing profusely. “S-sorry, I have to go find Jihoon and Yoonbin.”

You watched him rush out of the kitchen, a smile appearing on your face as you softly said, “Cute.”

Quickly, you finished washing the cups. Yoonbin called out, “Y/N! We’re gonna head out unless you still need help!”

Looking around, you spotted the notepad on your fridge. You pulled it off and quickly scribbled on it, tearing the small sentence off. “I’m all good here,” you said as you joined them at the door. “I’m really glad you could all make it. Let’s hang out outside of school again when we’re not studying.”

Jihoon and Yoonbin smiled and nodded in agreement while Junkyu still couldn’t make eye contact. The two boys took the lead as they exited your house. You grabbed Junkyu’s arm to stop him. He looked at you and you smiled as you slipped the piece of paper in his hand. Confused, he slightly stumbled down the walkway to catch up to the other boys. You waved one last time before closing the door.

“What was that about?” Jihoon asked. “What did she give you?”

Junkyu opened his hand and uncrumpled the small piece of paper that read: I like you too.

Yoonbin’s eyes widened and he smiled before gently slapping Junkyu’s shoulder, “Dude, this is awesome! We’re so happy for you!”

Junkyu re-read the note a million times as they went back to the dorms. As he was falling asleep, he smiled and softly whispered to himself, “She likes me back.”
