i know krp is supposed to be kpop focused, but would allowing fcs that aren't asian make an rp not a krp? i don't feel comfortable ever saying other fcs are not allowed, but i feel more comfortable on sites where the primary member base are krpers. i'm assuming allowing other faces wouldn't upset people, but i'm not really sure what the ideas are about that?
Hi there, thank you for message! 💚 I think I’ve seen some rps who don’t title themselves as krp, but will advertise in the krp sphere! I think the whole krp / other rps / faceclaim nationalities thing stems from some problem from years ago, so i’m not too sure about it now!

to the anon who asked what rps people are looking for, i and several people i know are looking for oc rps (preferably mewe) and a lot of us are looking for some darker themes too!
Hi anon, thank you for your message! 💚 I think @bloom-krp is an oc mewe roleplay, but it’s slice of life. Let’s hope some darker theme mewe oc roleplay can be made sometime too!

i personally would love more oc/au mewe rp's, especially if it's fantasy or just something other than slice of life.
Hi there, thank you for your message! 💚 Yes, that would be nice to see! 💚 Thank you for sending your opinion in!

what are the things people are seeking most in rps right now? genres there aren’t enough of, themes the rp deals with, what types of muses it’s focused on etc? basically trying to see what the community feels is lacking / what there’s a need for!
Hi there, thank you so much for your message! 💚 that’s a good question! I think a while ago we got a request for more dating show rps.
Friends, let us know what you’d like to see more of, and we’ll compile a list / poll!

hey admin! hope your day is going well! i was curious, with everything you've seen coming and going from this blog, what's a positive change you'd like to see happening in the krp community? it could be anything, even something small! things like activity requirements, types of rps as a whole, utilizing different platforms, or anything else. even if you don't have the time to join rps anymore, i'm still curious as to what you think might help the community going forward! <3
Hi there anon, thank you so much for your interesting question! 💚💚💚 This is a bit of a hard one to answer!
You know, I think sometimes we think that some rules or activity requirements are annoying or useless or something, but in the end they’re always there for a reason, right? There’s types of activity requirements and types of roleplays for everyone out there~ and that’s a good thing!
Maybe an improvement could be for everyone to be more patient and not immediately write something off as ‘flop’ just because it’s not moving quickly.
This is super personal, but as someone who just doesn’t have that much time anymore, I wish I could just have a space where everyone is comfortable, does their writing, still comes up with interesting plots without feeling left out if you’re not there to join some group chat or something - while just STAYING in one place.
But that’s just my personal opinion! If anyone else has any ideas for improvements, do send them in!

Thank you for indulging me. // ofc!! honestly, if a discord rp catches your eye, i think you should try it out! i've had some fun discord rp experiences too and i'd still join a discord rp in the future if i really had muse for the premise. like any other rp, your experience in a discord rp will also vary a lot depending on who's in it/running it. every platform has its benefits and flaws. :)
Hi there, thank you for coming back to this 🩵 lots of great insights!

i've written in discord rp groups before, but i just don't really prefer it because // OP here, that all makes so much sense. I noticed that too about a bunch of discord rps about the information being hidden in the server, I hope that is something admins change in the future because it makes information super inaccessible. I personally have not written in discord rp groups before and I am trying to get away from mewe with all the UI changes, so I was curious. Thank you for indulging me. 😭
Hi there, thanks for your message! Glad that helped a bit! 🩵

Genuine question for tumblr rpers, what is the aversion to discord as an rp platform […]? // i've written in discord rp groups before, but i just don't really prefer it because of how an ooc group chat is usually baked into the format (just because the platform itself is geared towards messaging). in mewe/tumblr rps, an ooc group chat (if there even is one) feels more separate and optional. even if a discord rp's ooc gc happens to be optional, i feel more.. pressured to talk in them/keep up with them? which, again, has more to do with the platform itself than the writers/admins.
i'm also not a fan of how most discord rps make you join the server itself before getting to see most of its ic info/"pages". 😭 this is just a minor ick on my part, but i just don't like giving out my discord user unless i'm already committed to joining the group.
Hi there, thank you so much for answering this! 🩵 those are all great points, as usual my tiny brain didn’t even think that far! It’s good to see different opinions on these topics! I hope this helped the other anon see some of the points as well~

Genuine question for tumblr rpers, what is the aversion to discord as an rp platform when most tumblr rpers wind up needing to use discord anyway as a form of communication? Isn't it just easier to consolidate all your rping to just one platform or do you like to separate it?
Hi there, thank you for your message! 🩵 I actually had no clue that there’s an aversion to discord rp on tumblr rps ~ if anyone could enlighten us, that’d be great! The only thing I can think of at the top of my head is that tumblr threads are usually longer and discord has a maximum message limit of 2000 characters or something like that, right? But not sure!

as someone who would love to open a fantasy rp and as someone who has attempted to join previous fantasy rps, i'll admit my main issue is that i struggle to find muse when the lore is overly complex! // hey! just wanted to add onto this discussion as another rper who loves writing in lore-based fantasy worlds.
i think overly complex lore can be an issue, but maybe not for all of the same reasons? like yes, i don't want to be reading pages upon pages and paragraphs of info, but if it's set up in a way that's like — some of the information is secondary or you only have to really refer to specific pages to write your muse (i.e. specific species information) and just refer to others on rare occasions, i'm okay with that. i love immersive worldbuilding.
i also personally think lore based off of a singular franchise can be okay as long as like.. it's treated as a starting point for information and i'm not expected to know the media at all to write in that world. like admins should be prepared to not follow the source media's plots/canons, and also be encouraging if writers want to expand off that lore. 99% of relevant info should be on your pages. i've been in a few rps based in worlds i'm not familiar with, and my experience with both have been pretty great in that sense. it'd be good to have your rp looked over by a friend who didn't work on it to see if they're confused or overwhelmed by your lore.
something i've noticed with lore in groups (.. that has honestly been a bit of a turn off when i see it with upcoming groups) is when the scope of the "world" seems to be at a scale that i can't see working small. like others have pointed out, fantasy rps are niche. they have a tendency to either start small, and if they're lucky enough to start big, most oc rps will shrink at times (regardless of genre). like i love conflict, but it should be done in a way that muses can interact with each other? i'm not talking about rival houses in a school setting, but if my muse has to cross the sea to get to yours, or if my muse wants to k*ll or capture yours on sight for lore-based reasons, how are they supposed to interact? this maybe even ties into the whole lore issue — if you have less factions or less cities, or even less species, you have naturally less lore to divide up on your pages. if you have 10 muns writing 15 muses, do you need 5 distinct, unallied factions? no.
but as the other anon pointed out, this could all be solved if the admins have a clear vision of what they want in terms of the plot. what kind of events would make sense and are doable? and what direction will the plot progress? how much lore do you need to set up an environment to make that happen? sometimes it might be better to create one country or kingdom or village as a setting rather than an entire world.
hi there, thank you for sending in your opinion! 🩵 i think these discussions are really interesting and useful. it seems like even if it is a niche part of krp, the fantasy fans are passionate and think about possible improvements for the future, that's amazing! please continue being passionate and motivated for roleplaying. 🩵 if anyone else has more opinions, ideas or thoughts on this, always feel free to send them in!

so while we would LOVE to see more of these groups, it's harder to really keep up and maintain despite loving the things we put out /// as someone who would love to open a fantasy rp and as someone who has attempted to join previous fantasy rps, i'll admit my main issue is that i struggle to find muse when the lore is overly complex! that, or if the lore is solely based off of a franchise (i find that to be pretty restricting if i'm unfamiliar with the franchise's lore). admins put so much life into fantasy roleplays and it's impressive. it's something i could have definitely handled 5-10 years ago when i was pushing out novella replies daily. that being said, i think fantasy would gain SUCH a positive resurgence if things were kept more brief and digestible! this isn't to say you should strip your roleplay from all of its story and personality; of course not. i'm saying this in a way where, for instance, if you have 3 paragraphs giving lore on a playable species... try to make it 1 paragraph! a lot of fantasy writers (myself included) pride themselves in flavor text and purple prose, and i think that's totally fine in moderation! in a changing rp world where people are busier, though, or where people want to quickly escape into rp without having to study the guidelines and premise/lore for days before applying, i think brevity would fit with the modern pace of krp. also, another important point of this is that brevity makes it more accessible for those with attention disorders and memory issues. ideally, we want to encourage everyone to try out our fantasy roleplays; not just seasoned veterans! when handled like this, it keeps new and returning muns from having to constantly cross reference your roleplay. after all, the faster you can immerse yourself completely, the faster interest and interactions will take off! my point is, i love, love, LOVE lore, but, these days, i think it's something that should grow WITH your community. giving muns a metaphorical textbook before they join is going to scare some away, and this will contribute to the low engagement you mentioned. i'll admit that (as a fellow fantasy fiend) this is the main reason i've been hesitant to join past fantasy rps. a basic story/plot alongside a basic "why are they here/what is their purpose in the rp?" question would be such a good jumping off point for most muns/muses. this, in itself, gives beginners of this genre room to learn and grow, without forcing themselves to bend to the unrealistic expectations of things they need to write out and things they need to know. on the other hand, it gives an open-ended prompt for novices and seasoned fantasy writers to expand upon what they were given. sorry for the wall of text! i'm super passionate about fantasy rp, and i truly feel it can make its comeback if we relent a little and experiment with more accessible forms of worldbuilding/storytelling. /nm /gen ♥
Hi there, thank you for your opinion 🩵
I can’t add much ~ I think sometimes lore gets complicated because on the one hand, if there is too much information members don’t read it, and on the other hand if there’s not all the information then people might send in a million questions or make characters that don’t quite fit the lore? Not sure if what I’m trying to say is clear, but I do generally agree with everything! 🩵

re: most recent fantasy rps that open end up closing or going inactive within a week // as a former admin who ran a oc fantasy krp in the past, it (for us) wasn't because we had a small community or because there wasn't some interest, it was because engagement was low overall. like the admin of krpgarden said, fantasy groups are niche in the krp world. there is a lot of world building that goes into it, and many admins (not even fantasy ones) put countless hours of work into their groups. in our group, my admin and i alone put in probably MONTHS of work into lore and the system of the world. it doesn't typically last because there isn't enough engagement, even in our own community we try to foster. sadly, on top of that, being a admin is just... hard. especially to a krp group. so while we would LOVE to see more of these groups, it's harder to really keep up and maintain despite loving the things we put out
Hi there, thank you so much for sharing your experience 🩵 it’s good to see that so many people are interested in fantasy rps and are willing to look at and grapple the problems one might have! I think with a bit of a community effort, we could have thriving and creative roleplays! 🥹
Again, under the read more is a bit of my own opinion if anyone cares to read it! I think we might be stuck in a bit of a circle:
Admins put in a lot of effort and are excited for their roleplays, then don’t see engagement and get discouraged.
Members don’t come into roleplays with many expectations or motivations because roleplays will die within a month anyway —
It probably takes a lot of effort to break this kind of rut, but I hope if enough people see these concerns and give themselves a little push, it might be possible to make the community stronger!

do you think there's a reason female muses don't get rsvps/apps in rps like these? // as someone who writes both female and male fcs and sometimes just has more muse for one type of character over the other.. i honestly wish people with muse for female characters in a particular setting would just reserve/apply to the group? i'm saying this as someone who currently isn't writing in/actively applying to any krp right now (still shopping around) but i feel like rps that have more male muses than female muses are often just written off when it just happens to reflect who the writers happen to want to write at the moment. nothing more. like yes, there are muns who seem to exist to fetishize m/m plots, but most people just want to rp. and i think that it could also just be a numbers game. there might just happen to be more writers who want to write male characters at the moment? there's not much one can do to change that.
at the same time, i know that there are times when well-written female muses are paid dust and that gets super draining. so i get feeling hesitant to join with a girl when everyone else is writing guys. but when groups these days don't even require much investment to reserve/apply, the best solution to this problem is to just .. reserve and maybe even apply, especially if you have a lot of muse for that setting. give the rp a chance, and show the admins that there is interest in their group before they decide to abandon the project. if you do end up joining a group, see how it feels (preferably for at least a week) before making a judgment call based on just taken fcs/a masterlist.
for admins, what i've seen some rps do is offer some canons / subplots / important roles / species where female muses Have to fill the role. and make it so that the role is somewhat exciting too. stuff like seductive "succubi"-type species and female-only factions that hate men are a little tired and reductive (and also limiting in plots).
also i'm fully aware that this is just my opinion! so feel free to offer contrasting views if anyone has any.
hi there, thank you for your message! 💙 i like reading opinions, so thank you for sending this in! i will put my views in a read more again, if anyone has any advice or thoughts on this, of course, feel free to add on!
yes, i think so, too. it might not be something planned or on purpose or even any thought behind male muses being more popular right now or at any given time. maybe it's just what people prefer right now.
however, i also think these two problems mentioned (just reserve even though there are only male muses / female muses not being paid attention) are kind of intertwined - if someone wants to play a female muse, but there are only male muses on the masterlist one might automatically jump to the conclusion that you might get ignored, so why put in the effort of thinking of an interesting female muse when it's all going to be for nothing anyways (just an example thought - i don't know if anyone actually thinks this way, it's just something i came up with!).
you do make a great point which i agree with, you just gotta try it! and most likely (or hopefully!) everything will be perfectly fine.
and special roles/skeletons for female muses sounds like a great idea for roleplays! i would love to see some of those 🥹

hey there! i was curious on your opinion when it comes to fantasy rps. the two things i've noticed is that: 1.) most recent fantasy rps that open end up closing or going inactive within a week. do you think that's due to their reservation goals not being met? it's understandable, but i think fantasy admins need to prioritize the few members that *are* interested, instead of pandering to a big crowd. it's a niche roleplay interest in krp, and not many are gonna be jumping at the idea. what do you think? 2.) do you think there's a reason female muses don't get rsvps/apps in rps like these? this isn't always the case, but it's the case more often than not. a fantasy rp recently opened and i saw that all the reserves were male fcs, and that just never bodes well. i know it's not the admins faults, though! just something i don't care to apply to if there's gonna be 1-2 female muses per 5 male muses. not trying to hoist you on an opinion pedestal, i've just noticed how often you praise fantasy rps (i love them, too!) and i was just curious if you had any theories as to why these things happen. is there a way to potentially combat this? this is an open topic for others to anonymously chime in on! i'd love to make a fantasy roleplay that prioritizes small member counts and an even ratio of female:male fcs. thanks in advance! <3
hi there, thank you for your message! 🥺 this is great to read, i appreciate you giving me something to think about! this is going to be interesting.
since my answer is going to be a bit longer, i will put it in a read more as to not clutter everyone's dash, but if anyone has any thoughts or opinions about this, feel free to send in a message!
most recent fantasy rps that open end up closing or going inactive within a week. do you think that's due to their reservation goals not being met? it's understandable, but i think fantasy admins need to prioritize the few members that are interested, instead of pandering to a big crowd. it's a niche roleplay interest in krp, and not many are gonna be jumping at the idea. what do you think?
i think there could be many reasons that play into this. some that come to mind are:
disproportionate effort: fantasy rp admins have to put in a lot of thought, time and effort into the lore of the roleplay. there are races, history, locations, skills, etc. that need to be thought of as they are creating a world different from ours. maybe after creating a roleplay for days and only seeing a few reservations and applications admins feel discouraged? at this point it would be good to just accept the smaller numbers and really engage with those who show interest. however, sometimes it's hard to see the interest if it doesn't really show?
niche interest / number of members: as you said, and this also plays into the problem mentioned above – fantasy krp seems to kind of niche, so fewer people are interested. i think in most cases, people prefer roleplays with bigger numbers (more people = more plots = more fun!), so small roleplays get overlooked. then, i think, there might be another problem related to this... since oc roleplays are more niche anyway, one may encounter the same roleplayers in other places. in the best case scenario, you get along well with those roleplayers, but i think a lot of times it comes to the situation where you have encountered these muns, tried to plot and then *insert (roleplay closed, went inactive, ghosted, no plot came to be, etc.)* and now it feels "awkward" to try and plot again – or, worst case, you just don't get along. in niche roleplays, we can't really expect to find "new" people all the time.
what do you think about this???
do you think there's a reason female muses don't get rsvps/apps in rps like these? this isn't always the case, but it's the case more often than not. a fantasy rp recently opened and i saw that all the reserves were male fcs, and that just never bodes well. i know it's not the admins faults, though! just something i don't care to apply to if there's gonna be 1-2 female muses per 5 male muses.
for this question, i wish i knew as well... i think most roleplays get more male fcs, right? there's this whole debate that only male muses get attention... i think there should definitely be some more encouragement for people to join with female muses!

to the admin looking to bring the LoL-inspired group, i voted empty but i’d be interested in joining just based on the aesthetics of the game! but i know nothing abt the lore/setting, so i’d just consider making sure that the plotline/setting is clear and accessible towards ppl who may not play/watch LoL, if that makes sense.
hi there anon! thank you for your message.
league of legends anon, please take a look at this, it might help with establishing the roleplay! 💚
