Taekook at Busan Concert

Like many people, I planned to watch the Busan concert live, and was quickly thwarted by Weverse basically crashing after the first two songs, RIP. The group I was with tried Naver Now afterward, but that didn't really work for us either. We did eventually find a stream of the JTBC broadcast thanks to a friend on here (thank you again!!), but we didn't really get it up and running until after Butter, and it cut out in the middle of ending ments.

I've spent a lot of today catching up on what I missed, and damn was there a lot going on! I've got a lot of moments I want to talk about, so keep reading for my thoughts, opinions, and ceaseless screaming about as much of what happened as I can reasonably address.

1. Backstage primping and butt-slapping

These moments (the one above, where Taehyung gives Jungkook a little butt slap, and also this one, where Taehyung primps Jungkook a bit), to me, are very typical of what we often see from Taekook: a little domestic, very sweet and cute, giggly, and slightly suggestive of an additional closeness because of the sense of propriety in the otherwise simple gestures.

There's also a little side-butt slap from Jungkook to Taehyung here.

They're sweet little moments, very quick and easy to write off, I'm sure, but cute and worth a mention because they show TK being playful and just having fun together. Also, Jungkook's little pat to Tae's waist like he wants to play along but isn't sure what to do -- cute!!

2. Run BTS choreo

Obviously this is choreography, so it's not like it tells us anything about TK really, but I had to include this on the list because!! Come on!!!

The Run BTS choreo was amazing in general, I'm so glad that we got to see that in flawless streaming perfection at least lol. Everyone absolutely killed it, but Taekook!! Damn! Especially in the clip shown here, like, I'm pretty sure I fully melted the first time I watched this. Their movement?? Their expressions???? Taehyung's TONGUE?

You'll have to bury me here, I won't be coming back from this, I'm afraid.

3. Jungkook hyping Tae's dancing/watching Tae

Throughout the whole concert (or what I got to see of it at least), it seemed to me like everyone was seriously having just the best time. It was so much fun getting to watch everyone laughing and feeling themselves, but Jungkook especially seemed to be having so much fun in such a visible way. It was like what he truly cared about first and foremost was making the most of this for himself, his members, and the fans, and it was so nice to see.

I absolutely love this clip of him hyping up Tae's dancing because he's just vibing and having fun and enjoying whatever Taehyung is getting up to. His smile is huge, he really is just indulgent and happy here it seems like.

4. Boy With Luv

Similarly playful and fun was their interaction during Boy With Luv. There's nothing really to say about it in particular, it's just cute and fun and another indication that they were all just having a good time together, and I love that!

5. Butter butt wiggle

This is another one that's just cute and fun that I wanted to include in the list because it makes me smile. I don't really have anything to say about it, TK are just cute and weird and funny and I adore them. I bet this butt wiggle was Tae's idea and Jungkook is just being classic Jungkook and indulging him. Good for them lol.

6. Singing together during Dope

Here we seem to have a classic instance of Taehyung and Jungkook interacting and the camera that's on them trying to make sure that not too much of That (tm) is shown to the audience.

Obviously that may not have been this camera person's intent, I'm not a mind reader, but I mean, it is pretty clear that Taehyung and Jungkook are having an interaction here, singing their lines with/to each other, and the camera really only shows Tae once it becomes clear what's happening.

It's still really cute though!

7. Best is yet to come

At the end of the show, Jungkook and Taehyung held up the "Best moment is yet to come" sign together before holding hands for their bows. There's also this photo that shows how close together they were standing in comparison to the other members.

Personally I don't put much stock, for the most part or most of the time, in who the members hold hands with at the end of the show, but there is something sweet to me about them holding this sign together, and of course them having no space between them when standing next to each other in a lineup, as they so often don't.

The biggest moment from the concert where Taekook are concerned, for me, is definitely the hand-holding moment from Save Me. When I realized I missed this after the stream crashed, I was so sad, but since then, there have been so many different angles released by fans and honestly each one just makes my heart softer.

I love everything about this moment. I love that it's Jungkook who holds out his hand for Taehyung. I love how Taehyung sort of tips his mic at Jungkook in what might have been meant as acknowledgment of the gesture, but Jungkook decides that's not enough and doesn't lower his hand. I love how his fingers go sort of soft as he waits, but he doesn't falter at all.

I love how Taehyung smiles when he realizes what Jungkook wants, and then for a moment, he looks to the side as though checking someone or something, like he doubts whether this is okay to do, but then he goes for it anyway.

I love that when he reaches out and finally takes Jungkook's hand, he does it so sweetly. I feel like you can feel the weight of it when their hands meet and their fingers fold around each other. Maybe this is just my delulu brain talking, but the gesture is so intentional and sweet at the same time, it feels sort of heavy and soft all at once when I watch it. It seems so significant, partly because it seems to me like it was a bit of a risk for them in this context.

I think this moment has skyrocketed close to the top of some of my all-time favorite TK moments. It feels unquestionably romantic to me, and all the more so because of the importance of this concert, its setting and its place in their career.

I'm not trying to make more of it than it is, at the end of the day it's one gesture and obviously especially in South Korea and within BTS, hand-holding isn't an inherently romantic thing to do, but it's really all the other details of this moment that give it its potential significance in my opinion.

It's the way they hold hands and don't let go for a long moment, even as Taehyung keeps walking, it's Taehyung's hesitance and his happiness, it's Jungkook's stalwart but quiet and patient insistence, it's the smiles they both have as they do it. There's just something so lovely about this whole interaction in my opinion. It feels really special to me.

I also feel like I can't end this post without mentioning the obvious differences in the types of playfulness Taekook exhibited in rehearsals versus the show itself.

Acknowledging those differences -- how completely non-hesitant they were in rehearsals, how shamelessly suggestive their playing around had been -- in comparison to the much more innocent and sweet forms of playfulness during the concert itself -- seems like a necessary part of thinking about this concert through a TK lens.

At the very least, it would seem to me to suggest, once again, that the Taekook behind the scenes are a bit different from the Taekook we see as part of the main event, whatever that might be in a given situation. And why would they need to be so different, in this way specifically, if they had nothing to hold a bit closer to the chest?

Taking all of that into consideration, not only does it strengthen the idea, for me, that Taehyung and Jungkook are likely in a romantic relationship, it also adds even more potential significance to a public gesture like holding each other's hands in the middle of a concert of this magnitude.

There really is something so special and beautiful about their relationship, and over the last couple of days, I feel like we've gotten to see these deep, if small, glances into it, which is something that feels sweetly tender to me.

Memories 2021 Thoughts

Ohhhh myyyyy goodness!!! I feel truly spoiled, we’ve gotten so many great moments from Memories 2021!

Honestly new things are still coming out every few hours or so, I feel like, so this post might develop more over the next couple of days, but I want to start compiling my thoughts, opinions, takeaways, and favorite moments. This is going to be sort of a catch-all for everything I have to say, so click to read more if you want some sweet moments and my takes on them!

One thing that jumped out at me right away, and only seemed to get more more obvious as more moments came out, was just the way that BTS, as a whole, truly seems to have absolutely zero physical boundaries. Usually I think of that as being mostly a Maknae line plus Hobi kind of thing (and that was confirmed today as well, I feel like, with the clip of Jungkook putting his hand on Jimin's waist and then Hobi coming up behind Jimin and standing ass-to-crotch with him while putting his hand on Jimin's hip -- like, okay guys), but I guess I have to include Jin in that too after watching this wildness!

It really just goes to show, I think, that when it comes to looking at the members' individual relationships with each other, ultimately it's more telling to look at consistent interactions than single, standout, suspicious moments. So with that in mind, let's look at some of my favorite Taekook crumbs from the day!

There have been so many great moments in this Memories. I'm going to try to keep my list reasonable (while still being indulgent, because that's who I am as a person), starting with this:

I love that they're just playing around with the camera, checking themselves out, and stop in the middle to make eye contact when they're that close to each other's faces, just to smile at each other. Please help, I think I'm melting into a puddle.

In not-so-soft TK news, I'm uhhhhh shall we say living for this moment:

That little eyebrow raise!!!! It is ruining my life!! Is there a heterosexual explanation for this? I don't think so. Also: Jungkook wants me dead these days, I'm officially convinced.

Then there's this one:

Bickering over a game they're only playing to pass the time? Sorry but that's couple behavior.

I couldn't resist including this in my faves:

It's obviously really adorable, but it's the ease with which they get into this position that stands out to me the most. I mean, Tae really just jumps up there with no hesitation! And Jungkook doesn't even flinch! I'm impressed and also feel like they must do this a lot.

Another one I feel like I just sort of have to mention is them holding hands and bouncing. Very 2014 fetus Taekook of them and I'm here for it:

How are they still so precious after all this time??

There are genuinely so many moments that have come out of this DVD, and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we end up seeing even more, just because I know there's a lot of material to comb through and people are probably still working on it.

They're not included in this list because they're harder to isolate in this way, but I feel like there were several tiny, in-the-background moments that, once again, just show how Taehyung and Jungkook spend a lot of time near each other, touching each other, interacting with each other, whether it's the focus of the camera or not.

A stand-out little interaction for me was this moment where Jungkook softly held out his hand for Tae out of nowhere and then they shook hands in the middle of practice:

The dark horse of the day for me is this conversation between Jungkook and Jimin where Jungkook says that Taehyung is being flirty every three seconds, and then Jimin starts talking about how Taehyung can use all of his different features or something (???) including his lips and tongue and Jungkook just giggles?? And then seems to mention Taehyung's body????? I??????

But of course my favorite moment we got today has to be Taehyung running his fingers through a sleepy (or sleeping?) Jungkook's hair and then touching his shoulder (and lying against his back). This moment is just so sweet and undeniably loving. I don't even really have anything to say about it to be honest. It's just such a heart-achingly tender moment and I'm really happy we got to see it.

I might add to this post, or make a part two, if I think of more moments that I feel strongly that I want to include, or if we get more as time goes on, but for now I'm pretty happy with these as my favorites of the day! I've had a blast just watching new content trickle in over the last several hours.
