Seeing hot takes about Wei Wuxian's personality and confidence levels floating around again so thought I'd chime in with my own.
Wei Wuxian does not lack confidence. In fact he is often overly confident, as noted by himself post resurrection.
I think his biggest issues are
1. He views kindness towards himself as transactional. He must pay back any kindness as best he can. However, his own kindness is free of charge. Remember what others do for you, not what you do for others.
2. If someone has to get hurt, he'd rather it be him. This, i believe is the core (cough) of the hero complex Jiang Cheng scolds him for. Its okay if he gets hurt because its him. And he knows he can handle it. And if he can handle it, he has to.
3. He has a fundamental, deep set mistrust of authority figures. His own experiences teach him thst its better to ask forgiveness than permission because youll get punished either way. If you want something done itnis your responsibility. His support from those in power growing up was inconsistent which makes it hard to ask for help.
On paper, these line up with a lot of what the reader may experience as anxiety or lack of confidence/self-worth in their own life. Overcompensation, inability to ask for help, self-sacrifice and the like. The issue is that the motive isnt the same, even if the symptoms are similar. The reason people, including myself at times, depict wwx as being anxious or lacking self-worth i think is mostly projection turned fanon. Its cathartic and easier to relate to.
Wwx does not see himself as worth less of than others in his life. In fact thats part of what raises some other characters hackles. How dare this son of a servant act like he's one of us?!
I think a lot of his issue is really about debt (that he will repay if it kills him(spoiler: it does)), overconfidence in his own ability (though i think he is forcing that out of desperation at the end of his first life because he can't afford to be wrong (spoiler: he was wrong)), a lack in confidence in the skill or motives of others (not completely unjustified ngl), and a desire to keep those he love from harm as much as he can (success may vary).

Ink Stained, by DaniOtero
After resolving a case, Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji take a well earned rest and have a sweet moment to themselves. Amidst the noise of their hard won peace, they still make the time to go slow.

we're family now, aren't we?, by vespertineflora
Jin Ling was nearly three weeks old, and in that time, Jin Guangyao hadn't yet been allowed to hold his nephew, despite very desperately wanting to. Jiang Yanli thought it was time to change that.
Brighter Morning, by CeruleanWinter
In the early days after Lan Wangji’s seclusion, a bewildered A-Yuan adjusts to all the ups and downs of having Hanguang-jun in his life.
“Go on, have more,” Hanguang-jun said.
A-Yuan didn’t move. He was suddenly and acutely aware of how unwell Hanguang-jun looked. His skin was muted, and his cheekbones were more pronounced than they ought to be. The robes hung loose over his thin frames, looking like they belonged to someone else. Even though A-Yuan knew that er-gonzi’s clothes would have all been tailor-made for him.
If anything, Hanguang-jun should be the one eating.
A-Yuan asked, “Are you sure—"
“Eat!” Hanguang-jun said, sharp as a whip crack. “You are thin enough as it is.”
the most beautiful man in the world, by deliciousblizzardshark (2 chapters)
“I did the same thing,” Wei Wuxian admitted. “How could I marry you without knowing what I was getting into? What if all the stories about you being the most beautiful man in the world were a lie?”
“Mn,” Lan Wangji said. “They were.”
Wei Wuxian gasped. “They were not!” he exclaimed. “My future husband is the most gorgeous creature there is!”
“He is not,” Lan Wangji said. “My future husband is.”
or
Wei Wuxian wasn't interested in marrying until he began hearing rumors about a man so beautiful flowers and fuzzy animals grew and flourished wherever he went.

There were also a lot of plot things that came out of nowhere and were gone just as fast (Lingering Will, Xion coming back, Demyx and Vexen). Even Master Xehanort, the guy who wanted this whole thing in the first place, just ends up getting talked out of the whole thing!
And aside from most of the Disney worlds, everywhere else just felt empty.    100 Acre Wood is just Rabbit’s house? Twilight Town is only two places? No Radiant Garden, no Traverse Town, no Castle Oblivion, and only a very brief time spent inside of the Land of Departure castle. Scala ad Caelum, which was teased as a huge, expansive world you don’t even really get to play in! You can explore a small part of it and then it’s just one giant boss battle.
And then Sora’s gone, and it’s like nobody cares. The Wayfinder trio are hanging out and mourning Eraqus. (Ventus remembers Chrithy now for some reason??) Everybody else is eating ice cream or throwing a party on the islands, but Sora is just gone. What the hell happened??
The worst thing is how honestly empty I feel after beating it. I thought I’d have more drive to do things but once I got through the main story and saw the epilogue and secret ending, I just stopped caring. I don’t even care about the Secret Reports (I ended up reading them online just to see, but they don’t really add anything substantial).
And at first I thought maybe it was just post-game depression. Like, after so long, the fact that KH3 is out and I’ve now completed it just put me in a funk but I’m not so sure anymore. The more I think about it and read the opinions of others, the more flaws I start to see, the cracks that I may have noticed before but logged in the back of my head. KH3 leaves me feeling empty more than anything else, but why? It has everything, right? All of the good guys are saved, we get to see their reunions but it all just feels really...blegh, I guess. Like @konnei said, it feels like just a formality. We have to see that stuff, even if there’s not actually any passion in it from the devs, who are more concerned with what’s to come after.
Nomura has said that he never considers the games he’s making currently, but always the ones after. I’ve always seen that as him being one step ahead of the fans but for this game, it feels more like he just did not consider it during development. There’s definitely quality there, and it’s certainly not a bad or even mediocre game. Kingdom Hearts III is a GOOD game, great in many aspects...
idk I don’t normally actually blog on here but fk it I wanted to get my thoughts across because I’m seeing a lot of other people making good points.
