First Wählen - The conference and conversations with @hormelfoods encouraged me to rethink my world, so the President/Elected Minister has been changed to the First Wählen, a rough google translation. In the setting of my story, it simply means "the elected one".
Primar Council - The Primar Council are the core member's of the First Wäheln's cabinet and are constitutionally required to be filled before Her Majesty grant the Wäheln permission to form a government in Her name. Rough google translation of primary council.

Closer to posting the R4, I promise!
AN: I realize this is the second time I've called Chris "PB" w/o explaining. It's short for Peanut Butter. I can explain/it'll become obvious why later...maybe?
Transcript Below:
NORA: Ah! There he is.
CHRISTOPHER: Hi Gan-Gan; Grandpop Carlton.
NORA: Tea?
CHRISTOPHER: No, thank you.
NORA: Good. Then, we can jump right in. Carlton.
CARLTON: I won't sweeten this for you, PB. We believe this book set for publishing could harm the family, and we're doing the little we can to shield us from potential damages.
CHRISTOPHER: Why is this book a bigger threat than any others?
CARLTON: We've read the foreword and a few manuscript chapters. Some facts and historical misinterpretations could be used as political leverage for the Abolitionist Front* and others. And frankly, with the state of the world, we don't want any unplanned risks or scandals. So here we are…
CARLTON: We'll capitalize on your blossoming popularity, increasing your appearances and patronages. You'll shake hands with celebrities, support the right causes, and say the right things.
CARLTON: We'll remind the people how beloved their Queen is while positioning you as the family's future. You'll have to do more soft diplomacy, meetings with Weily, and things like the R4.
CARLTON: We’ll dwarf any press and media the book receives. If he's on The Last Show Tonight, we're at a gala full decorations. If he's at a book signing, we are cutting a ribbon. We'll dominate the news cycle, leaving them arguing about protocol and our wardrobe.
CARLTON: And finally, when they're thoroughly enamored and waiting for us and the book, if they still care, we'll tease them with your Princely story's conclusion…a wedding.
CHRISTOPHER: A wedding?
NORA: A wedding.

As the media would describe it, Cordelia and Edward's relationship was "too good to be true." For a commoner marrying into The Family, the years-long relationship was, until her pregnancy, without scandal or complaint. No former lovers, bitter parents, or scorned ex-friends came out with anything negative or salacious about Miss Cordelia Easton. The daughter of a corporate middle manager and a retired government receptionist, Lady Delia, a moniker given by tabloids, was always considered an exceptional and necessary addition to the Royal Family. Palace "insiders" spoke of her closeness with Her Majesty, a stark contrast from her embrace of her daughter-in-law and future Queen Consort, HRH Victoria, Princess of Belen. The public saw her as the perfect pair for their beloved (then) Prince "Eddie" Belen. He was (and arguably still is) dutiful and dull, cliche as it is. And it was clear that when his time came, he'd need a consort capable of anchoring him to Earth, with his "people," the very thing Königs enthusiastically works against. Even during the height of their first and only significant media "scandal," the couple remained steadfast, and Cordelia, as noted in an unofficial account of the couple's courtship, "was utterly unbothered, which only intensified the media's desire to break her, or at least try."
Transcript Below:

Cordelia: humming
Edward: continues playing
Cordelia: Come on, they’re waiting for us…
Edward: They can wait…music continues
Cordelia: Do you remember our exit plan?
Edward: The cottage in Genera…
Cordelia: I think about it often…
Edward: We weren’t serious, Delia.
Cordelia: Weren’t we…
Edward: Fine. We leave tonight. chuckles
Cordelia: chuckles If only…
Edward: *Yeah, if only…

AN: The Royal Rights Act of 1800, ratified by King XX, shifted the financial control and administration of the Crown's treasury and lands to The Herz. This was in return for a quarterly payment for upkeeping the Royal Household. The Act introduced the concept of a "working royal," categorizing family members into senior and junior, based on their official duties. This tradition continues today, with the Queen annually distributing funds to active and senior family members under the Royal Rights.
Transcript Below:
MICHAEL: After your meeting, we'll start reviewing your R4 schedule and speech.
CHRISTOPHER: Speeches?
MICHAEL: Her Majesty suggested you give a short greeting during the reception. Lauryn's team has prepared a draft. We'll also need updated sizes as well, and I’ve…
CHRISTOPHER: Madame Wählen.
First Wählen Weily: [curtsies] Your Royal Highness, Miss Lesly. Are you joining us for the R4?
CHRISTOPHER: Yes, I'm pleased to help.
First Wählen Weily: Good. The public loves to see working royals earning their Rights*. [walks away]
CHRISTOPHER: What the hell was that?
MICHAEL: Bold for someone who curtsies to you.
CHRISTOPHER: [chuckles] Michael, you curtsy to me.
MICHAEL: Sure, but it's my job, and mine sucks.
CHRISTOPHER: I've noticed. [laughs]
MICHAEL: [chuckles] Anyway, Sir. I'll find you after the meeting.

AN: Starting and creating this story has been a labor of laugh but, I'm so happy to finally start sharing the story of the Vernick Royal family. A country created by my friend (@vernicksims), who has allowed be to borrow, build, and expand his country. Also a major shoutout to everyone who has served as a thought partner or inspiration--if I've forgotten you, I'm sorry! Everyone has been beyond helpful as writing partners, tumblr tutors, and creative directors. I hope to keep this going and see where this story and family take me (us). (@bridgeportbritt,@warwickroyals, @armoricaroyalty, @empiredesimparte, @nexility-sims, @wa-royal-tea, @thegrimalldis)
TRANSCRIPT BELOW:
Liam: We're back for my favorite segment, The Royal Round Up! Tonight, we focus on The Family'sFamily's relevance with our special guests, Culture Professor Dr. Lizzy Eane and self-proclaimed public intellectual Maryjane Rightway. Ladies, the top question from viewers was, ""what is the royal family's role?"" -- take it away.
Dr. Eane: Where to begin--the monarchy has passed its expiration date, and it knows it. The rising taxpayer costs, the residences, in exchange for what?
Maryjane: In exchange for culture and history, Lizzy. As long as our country exists, our oldest and most remembered founding family remains relevant... it'sit's obvious.
Christopher: Can we please watch anything else? I'mI'm sure this show rots the brain (laughs).
Jessica: No can do! It'sIt's my Guilty pleasure, and he says nice things usually...
Christopher: About you!
Jessica: Exactly! (Laughs) Now be quiet! The royal segment is starting. ''
Christopher: Great...
Liam: Many voters and viewers agree with Ms. Rightway, believing the monarchy serves as a national but powerless symbol.
Dr. Eane: And that, Liam, makes them more dangerous. The idea that they are powerless is false, dangerous, and dense. It'sIt's people'speople's belief in the institution that empowers them. The crown is merely a tribute on our and the church'schurch's behalf. And the latter lacks my consent as well.
Maryjane: (Laughs) We can debate this all night. But, if we did, it's because of King Christopher'sChristopher's 1886 decree, which granted citizens and media the right to critique The Crown. The same king went on to found our finest colleges, one of which you are employed. Again, they're irrelevant?
Maryjane: Dr. Eane, I'mI'm shocked to hear you pander to the younger crowd. They don't have to look like us; that's the point! A family of 17 cannot represent a country of nearly 200 million.
Dr. Eane: Sure...but after how long? You speak as if--
Liam: Sorry to cut you off, but that's all for the Royal Roundup. We'llWe'll have more with Dr. Eane and Ms. Rightway after the break.
Christopher: I hate that you like this show.
Jessica: And I hate that you're ruining my Sunday night. Some of us have real jobs, ya know?
Christopher: Yeah...at your family business. (Laughs)
Jessica: Hey! No fair. It's not my fault; I work hard, 9-5.
Christopher: 9-5? I'd be so lucky! This job is nonstop, and this show makes me feel like a shitty worker.
Jessica: Aren't you, though? (Laughs)
Christopher: 9-5? I'd be so lucky! This job is nonstop, and this show makes me feel like a shitty worker.
Your Royal Highness, I've added a mandatory meeting to your calendar. Your great-grandmother, The Queen, has requested all senior members arrive 15 mins early.
Christopher: Shit. What now?

AN: For context, Lowie is Dr. Bart Eane's department head and the person urging him to publish and publish quickly. Meredith knows Lowie all too well, as she's an accomplished and popular professor who has already published three books, including the two seen in this scene. Like her husband, Meredith studies history (undergrad), but her specialty is anthropology, where she focuses on early Vernick, specifically children's role in developing society.
TRANSCRIPT BELOW:
Meredith: ...you won't convince me that's his best book! (Laughs)
Dr. Eane: What?! Honey, Lord of the Moths is a masterpiece, and that's why he's my favorite writer. (Laughs)
Dr. Eane: Then again, we'll have to agree to disagree. (Laughs) He's still my favorite writer.
Meredith: Excuse me! I thought I was.
Dr. Eane: Fine. He's my second favorite writer. You, of course, are my first.
Meredith: And soon, the country will see why you're mine.
Dr. Eane: Ahh, you're assuming Lowie's damn edits will stop.
Meredith: Lowie is tough and knows his shit, Bart. Trust him, but not more than your gut or research.
Dr. Eane: They're not worried about my research or my writing.
Meredith: Then what's the issue?
Dr. Eane: They are.

AN: Awww it's the first time we meet Carlton (and I realize how many C names with story has...geez).
For context, the Rotary refers to the Royal Rotary, a group of journalists from Vernick's popular and prestigious newspapers and publications. The rotary changed bi-annually and is supposed to be a randomized group based on clicks, buys, and prestigious.
TRANSCRIPT BELOW:
Carlton: *clears throat* How late are we working tonight?
Nora: Oh! I didn't realize how late it was. I need a few more minutes--just reviewing today's notes.
Carlton: Isn't it always the same memo? Come to bed.
Nora: Not this week, I'm afraid. Some The Rotary says some damning book is to be published sooner than anticipated. Our teams are worried and advise we be too.
Carlton: Hmm, and we are going on the offense or defense?
Nora: Both, Carlton. Both.
Carlton: And our star player?
Nora: Christopher, naturally.
Carlton: His response?
Nora: Silence, which is desired over the alternative.
Carlton: I see. I'll give the boy a call tomorrow. I've been--
Nora: I'd prefer you not. A ring makes all of this something. I much rather we look ahead with no questions, no complaints, and certainly no calls to discuss one's feelings.

The Royal Archives | Journal Entries: Queen Violet Pt. II
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Then Princess of Belen photographed at one of her private residences]
15 May 184X
Dear Lady L., How I aches for the gentleness of Armorica as I find myself trapped in the intricate web of courtly and royal obligations. Since the wedding's conclusion, the solemn duty of court has begun, ushering in a world of politics that is both captivating and treacherous. My experiences at court have been far from gracious. Despite my rank as the Crown Princess, there are those who refuse to acknowledge my presence, dismissively averting their gazes as I pass by. Many of the ladies, whose apartments I ought to be welcomed into as a matter of decorum, conveniently overlook extending invitations. It is a disheartening situation, for my education, my age, and my political acumen seem to breed jealousy and spite among them. The Duchess of [REDACTED], Lady [REDACTED], and the Duchess of [REDACTED] are among the main culprits in this disdainful display.

In such circumstances, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the love and support of my husband, my handsome Willy. He stands as a pillar of strength and support. Seeing my struggles, he endeavors to improve my condition in any way he can. He delights in showering me with jewels, a small respite from the trials I face. He is truly my rock, granting me a level of independence rarely afforded to ladies of my station. He ensures that I have agency over managing part of my dowry and affairs. This only serves to further fuel the disdain of the ladies at court, who despise any woman that dares to defy the norms of royal court. The challenges I face in this foreign land are abundant, stretching far beyond the mere discomfort of unfamiliarity. I am grappling with the language barrier, feeling like a solitary island amidst a vast sea of foreign words, striving to grasp the intricacies of conversations that swirl around me. The language barrier leaves me feeling like a solitary island amidst a sea of foreign words, struggling to grasp the nuance of conversations. The food here is bland, colorless, and unappetizing, confounding my taste buds with its lackluster flavors. Each meal is a reminder of the culinary delights I have left behind in Armorica. But perhaps the greatest challenge of all lies in the isolation I feel within the gilded walls of court. Though my ladies-in-waiting provide a semblance of companionship within the confines of my apartments, their kindness is often veiled, hidden from the prying eyes of their Vernick born friends and family. In these moments, I am acutely aware that I am but a guest in their world, a seemingly perpetual outsider despite my elevated status and father's patronage. This is but the beginning of my journey in Vernick, a path that seems daunting and treacherous. However, I will not allow the challenges faced at court to dim my spirit. Within me resides the resilient heart of a princess, determined to carve a place of belonging against all odds. With my Willy steadfastly by my side, I know that I can face any challenge with unwavering resolve. He is my guiding light, finding ways to sprinkle joy into the tapestry of my existence. Yours in service, VK

The Royal Archives | Journal Entries: Queen Violet Pt. 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Then Princess of Belen, Violet König, nee Blythe photographed in the throne room at Chandler's Keep in 184X the day after her wedding.]
In the late 18th century, a wave of economic prosperity swept across the kingdom, transforming previously unknown industrial families into household names. Foreign heiresses subsequently emerged on the marriage market, seeking nobility, titles, and prestige to complement their fathers' already substantial fortunes. And yet, of all the wealthy Armorican brides, it was Violet Blythe who truly whose fortune captured both the heart and treasury of the then King and Queen of Vernick. Violet would go on to defy and redefine societal norms during her time as Crown Princess and eventually as Queen. Violet Blythe was born into an Armorican family of whale industry barons, with a fortune that seemed to increase with every passing season. She was known for her beauty, her shrewd wit, musical genius, and her fierce determination to live life on her own terms. It was this unyielding spirit (and her father's business connections) that led her to reject suitors of equal wealth, choosing instead to offer her hand in marriage to the Prince of Vernick. Despite decades of hostility from the royal court, Violet proved her worth. She navigated political waters with ease, winning over the skeptics with her principles, intelligence, and commitment to Vernick. Over time, she became a force in the transformation of the kingdom, taking on projects that helped expand public education, improve roads, and using her dowry to expand and maintain royal palace, while earning her respect from the nobility.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Left: The Prince and Princess of Belen on their wedding day in 184X in the Keep's Throne Room; Right: Princess Violet in full-regalia following her investitures as a Princess of Vernick]
However, Violet's path was never easy. She was greeted with suspicion and disdain from certain quarters, who resented the intrusion of a foreigner into their court. As the years wore on, she also faced increasing isolation, living in a kingdom that refused to welcome anyone outside of their own traditions. But Violet refused to be broken. She leveraged her wealth to build institutions of education at a time when women's schooling was not yet widely accepted. She also invested in palaces and cultural events, hoping to expose the people of Vernick to the beauty of Armorican arts and culture. Violet Blythe's journey is one of resilience, determination, and ultimate triumph. She defied societal expectations and rose to become one of the most powerful women in the kingdom, all while using her wealth and influence to fortify and preserve a fragile kingdom on the edge of the continent. Truly, she is a woman worth remembering.

**Michael Lesly is the Private Secretary to the Duke and Duchess of Henford (Edward and Cordelia) and Earl of Henfordshire (Christopher) learn more about her here.
AN: The decoration here was more important than most scenes. The shifting portraits, the photos that remain in place, and for some, even their size, tell us more about Edward than he'd ever really share. He and his son are more alike than different, and it's the difference that frightens Edward because he's unsure if his son is enough of him to submit to his duty, cliche as it sounds.
Transcript Below:
Michael Lesly: [on the speaker phone] …the palace believes the R4 conference is an ideal opportunity to launch His Royal Highness, Sir
Edward: We'll discuss that more after speaking to my parent's office.
Chris: Dad…
Edward: Michael, we'll finish up later.
Michael Lesly: [on the speaker phone] Sir.
Edward: How are you?
Chris: I'm fine. You?
Edward: At some point, PB, you must stop running.
Chris: …..
Edward: Some think you've had long enough to figure things out. And I'm on the verge of agreeing the more you push away. I deeply fear who you'll become and the choices you'll make. I think – I know your head and heart aren't in it. And that's why I need you to stop running. I need you close. She needs you close.

AN: Bare with me here--you can see I was still experimenting with Photoshop's lighting effects and their ability to change/create a mood. I also created this before finding some awesome and more iconic queeny hairstyles. This also gives a bit of insight into how formal they are — even in private. And I debated how to share details of the meeting and I hope you all like the direction I chose. I’m a fan of a slow burn.

Christopher: Yes, Gan, of course.
Nora: Tell me. How are things at the foundation?
Christopher: Gan, I--
Nora: Yes?
Christopher: I-I'm sometimes trying to figure out if the foundation was the right thing to do...for me, at least.
Christopher: It can be a tad overwhelming, and honestly, Liv was...

Christopher: Yes, ma'am, I know.
Nora: Now, let us go on. They're waiting.

AN & Fun Fact: Thanks to a great friend who encouraged me to use flashback. In so many ways, it's great for Chris and Edward. Edward sometimes still sees his son as the 8-year-old on the receiving end of the media's hate for the first time. Similarly, in many ways, Chris sometimes still feels like that kid. His time with Drew and realization that he's so unsure and unlearned in many ways, and now this confrontation with his father reminds him of how little control he's had and has. It's the infantilizing nature of monarchy for Chris that he can't name--wildly as everyone screams he's an adult and that it's time to live and behave like one.
WORLDBUILDING FUN FACT: When Edward jokes about his father combusting, he's referencing one of Vernick's most famous children's books, Combustible Charlie. Children overwhelmed with emotions turn red and combust from the famous children's book Combustible Charlie. It was first published in the 1930s and has since been updated for modern audiences. There are several titles geared towards helping develop early literacy and social-emotional skills. Other titles include Combustible Charlie Gets Angry, Get Combustible Charlie Gets Sad, Combustible Charlie Gets Excited.
TRANSCRIPT BELOW:
Christopher: But it's not fair! I only waved at my dumb classmates! I promised them I would.
Cordelia: No, you showed off in front of your classmates, and today was about Gan-Gan and your father, not you.
Christopher: But it's always about Gan-Gan.
Cordelia: Right now, it's about your behavior during the investiture.
Christopher: Fine. *mumbles* I'm sorry.
Cordelia: I'm not the one you need to apologize to.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NEWS ANCHOR: The Duke of Henford's investiture was slightly derailed when Prince Christopher of Henford flashed the audience, causing quite the photo frenzy. Sources say Her Majesty is…
Edward: Fuck off! He didn't flash anyone. He's a damn kid! Seriously?
News Anchor: [On TV] Body language experts warn the behavior is a sign of future behaviors and that...
Edward: Dammit. They're not letting up.
News Anchor: [On TV] ...some attendees report being shocked by the normally well-behavior Prince who recently celebrated his eighth birthday.
Edward: What to say?
Christopher: *whispers* Hi, Dad..
Edward: Your grandfather would have combusted of embarrassment* if I did what you did today. I can hear him, *poorly impersonating his father* "You desecrated a centuries-old ceremony, Edward. And for what? A cackle? A heckle? A chuckle? Don't be so pedestrian, My Boy". He would've gone on for hours about honor, duty, tradition, and my role. We–
Christopher: *better impersonation of his grandfather* "We Königs have a duty to make the mundane magical for the common man." *laughs*
Edward: *laughs* That was scary good, PB. Listen, I want you to forget about today.
Christopher: Forget about it?
Edward: Yup. Forget about it. I want to tell you that you can be whoever you want and do whatever you want, as most dads can. But it's not that simple, sadly. That's all already for us.
Christopher: Chosen for us? By who?
Edward: The Watcher if you ask your grandpa and the people if you ask Gan-Gan.
Christopher: That's unfair…
Edward: *light sigh* It can be. I used to say the same thing, PB. But every family has something they pass on, and this is ours.

Christopher: *Chuckles* Seriously?
Cordelia: I understand your need for alone time, and that you're unhappy, and still, I find no room to excuse dismissing your security, staying out, and not returning calls.
Christopher: Yeah, I bet—the product of a supportive family.
Cordelia: I'll remind you that I am not your enemy.
Christopher: But you can't be my ally either.
