I think I'll start to focus more on Klezmer and Eastern European Jewish music in general. It's an extremely interesting topic, especially the cultural exchange that was happening back then in the Eastern European regions. It is known that klezmer genres like Doine or Kolomeike come from Romanian and Ukrainian music (Doina, Kolomyika). But did you know that Jewish fraylekhs are still sometimes played at weddings in western Ukraine today? Or that Jewish musicians often played together with Roma musicians, at Jewish and Gentile celebrations? Or that the roots of some klezmer tunes go back to Turkey and Greece? Or that Klezmorim spoke a Yiddish slang ('klezmerloshn') and formed 'guilds', kinds of syndicates, acting as lobbies against the governments and as social mediators? With my YouTube channel, I will provide information on the dances and songs, as they all have a different story and different place in a certain ritual. At a Jewish wedding, the klezmorim would first make the bride cry as she left her old life, to then play happy tunes after the wedding ceremony, as she began her new life.
